The next day, late at night.

Su Hua’s fingers were still aching. She tossed and turned in bed, finally managing to fall asleep.

Gu Beixian lay beside her, holding her in his arms.

Suddenly, his phone vibrated.

Afraid of waking Su Hua, Gu Beixian put it on silent, gently withdrew his arm from under her neck, and intended to take the call outside.

But halfway through, Su Hua woke up.

She slowly opened her sleepy eyes and looked at him, asking, “What’s wrong?”

Gu Beixian pointed at his phone. “I’ll go outside to take a call.”

“Just answer it here, don’t go out. It’s cold outside,” she said considerately.

Gu Beixian hummed in response, answered the call, and asked, “Mochen, what’s up?”

Chu Suosuo’s brother, Chu Mochen, spoke politely, “Sorry to bother you so late. Suosuo’s hand was smashed with a hammer. Four fingers on her left hand are shattered, she’s in bad shape, and keeps crying to see you. Are you able to come over and see her now?”

Gu Beixian’s expression changed. He sat up and asked, “When did this happen?”

“Over two hours ago.”

Gu Beixian frowned. “I’ll be there right away.”

“Thank you, I’ll send you the ward number in a moment.”

“Alright.”

After hanging up, Gu Beixian began unbuttoning his pajamas, moving quickly.

Seeing his anxious demeanor, Su Hua had a feeling that once he left, he probably wouldn’t come back tonight.

He’d likely care for Chu Suosuo just as he had cared for her-holding, comforting, whispering sweet words, doing everything to soothe her.

Su Hua felt a stabbing pain in her heart, as if pierced by a knife.

She recalled what Xiao Yi had said: she should act spoiled when needed, be weak when needed, or else she’d never win against Chu Suosuo.

But at a moment like this, Su Hua simply couldn’t act spoiled; weakness, though, was possible-after all, it’s a woman’s nature.

Suddenly, she wrapped her arms around Gu Beixian’s waist and buried her head in his chest.

Her meaning was clear-she didn’t want him to leave.

Gu Beixian paused in unbuttoning, raised his hand to gently stroke her head, and softened his voice, “Be good, I’ll just go take a look and come right back.”

Su Hua refused to let go, still holding his waist tightly, pleading softly, “Can you wait until morning? When it’s light, I’ll go with you.”

Gu Beixian frowned slightly, his tone tinged with displeasure, “You’ve always been reasonable. What’s gotten into you tonight?”

He was subtly accusing her of being unreasonable.

Su Hua thought, if it’s unreasonable, so be it.

Three years of marriage, she’d never been unreasonable before-tonight, she’d make an exception.

At moments like this, love didn’t matter much anymore; it had become a contest between her and Chu Suosuo.

She just wanted to make Chu Suosuo uncomfortable-clearly and unmistakably uncomfortable.

She’d never felt this way about anyone before.

Gu Beixian waited for a while, but she still wouldn’t let go.

He raised his hand and pried her fingers from his waist one by one.

He took off his pajamas, changed clothes, and left.

Su Hua stared blankly at the closed door, her self-esteem shattered.

Just a few hours until dawn, and he couldn’t wait.

No matter how hard a substitute tries, she’ll never compare to his childhood sweetheart, his white moonlight.

Su Hua laughed at herself, endured the pain in her hand, got out of bed, and locked the ward door.

She lay back down, her eyes red, feeling miserable inside.

Gu Beixian arrived at Chu Suosuo’s hospital room.

She had just been transferred from the operating room, curled up in pain on the bed, her face ashen, eyes swollen and red.

She looked utterly haggard.

Her four broken fingers were splinted, the back of her hand swollen high, the skin stretched thin, wounds mottled and gruesome.

Hua Qirou was sobbing so hard she couldn’t catch her breath.

Chu’s Father stood at the corridor window, smoking one cigarette after another in silence.

Seeing Gu Beixian arrive, Chu Mochen came over and politely said, “Beixian, sorry to trouble you so late.”

“It’s fine.”

Gu Beixian replied coolly, walked to the bedside, leaned over slightly to look at Chu Suosuo, and called softly, “Suosuo.”

Chu Suosuo’s gaze had been vacant.

Hearing Gu Beixian’s voice, she slowly turned her head.

When she saw his face clearly, she burst into tears.

Gu Beixian bent down to sit by the bed, gently patting her arm. “Suosuo, be strong.”

Chu Suosuo’s tears streamed down, her voice choked, “My hand, Brother Beixian, my hand is ruined.”

Gu Beixian comforted her, “You’re still young, it will heal.”

“It won’t heal, it’s a comminuted fracture, the bone fragments were pieced together bit by bit. My life is over.” Chu Suosuo cried in despair, her sobs heart-wrenching.

Gu Beixian looked at the heartbroken Chu Suosuo.

But what flashed through his mind was Su Hua’s hopeless gaze when her own finger was broken.

He pulled out a tissue and gently wiped away Chu Suosuo’s tears, coaxing, “Don’t cry, try to be optimistic.”

“I can’t be optimistic, wuwuwu.”

No one knew how long he comforted Chu Suosuo, but she kept crying.

Gu Beixian grew a little impatient and glanced at his watch.

He’d been out for almost an hour.

Su Hua must be angry by now.

After a moment’s thought, he took a card from his wallet and placed it on the bedside table. “I came in a hurry and didn’t buy anything. This is a little something from me-the password is 618618. It’s late, Su Hua is still waiting for me in the ward, so I’ll head back now.”
Chu Suosuo immediately stopped crying.

She looked at him in disbelief, her voice hoarse as she struggled to speak: “Brother Beixian, I’m already like this, and you still want to leave?”

“Mm, I’ll come see you again tomorrow.”

“Don’t go, okay?” Chu Suosuo, her eyes brimming with tears, pouted and reached out to grab his hand, the back of her hand still pierced with a needle.

That fragile and helpless look was truly pitiful.

Gu Beixian was silent for a moment, gently pulled his hand back, and said softly, “Be good. You have your parents and brother with you. Su Hua only has me.”

Chu Suosuo was unwilling, “Doesn’t she have a mother too?”

“Her grandmother is in the hospital, and her mother has been taking care of her grandmother these days.”

Chu Suosuo was extremely disappointed, “Brother Beixian, you’ve changed. You used to care about me so much. Whenever I had a fever, you’d stay with me all night.”

She started crying again.

Chu Mochen frowned and said to Gu Beixian, “Beixian, you should go back. Suosuo has us to take care of her.”

Gu Beixian nodded slightly at him, stood up, and asked, “Who did it? Was the person caught?”

Chu Mochen shook his head, “No. The person ambushed Suosuo in the underground parking lot. As soon as she got out of the car, she was knocked out, dragged to a corner, and her left hand was smashed with a hammer. Nothing valuable was taken from her bag, and Suosuo wasn’t assaulted. It wasn’t for money or lust-clearly, it was revenge.”

Gu Beixian pondered, “I’ll send someone to investigate.”

“No need, we’ve already called the police. Thank you.”

“Alright.” Gu Beixian turned and walked out.

As soon as the door closed,

Chu Suosuo grabbed a pillow and threw it to the floor, bursting into loud sobs.

She cried so hard she was gasping for breath, choking out, “Brother Beixian and I grew up together. We’ve had feelings for over ten years. Why can’t that compare to his three-year marriage with Su Hua? Wuwuwu, I hate her, I hate that country bumpkin so much!”

Chu Mochen picked up the pillow and put it back on the bed, saying, “When you were with Gu Beixian, he was in his prime, full of spirit. But when Su Hua was with Gu Beixian, it was his most difficult and desperate time. As the saying goes, true feelings are revealed in adversity. Your ten years can’t compare to their three.”

Chu Suosuo immediately lost control, yelling at him, “Why are you taking her side too? Are you my real brother or hers?”

“I’m being objective, analyzing things rationally for you,” Chu Mochen said calmly.

Chu Suosuo cried even harder.

Chu’s Father stood by, saying gloomily, “Mochen, just say a little less. Your sister’s hand is already hurt like this.”

Gu Beixian returned to Su Hua’s hospital room and pushed the door, but it wouldn’t budge.

The door was locked from the inside.

He knocked for a long time, but Su Hua refused to open it, and she didn’t answer his calls either.

He raised his hand to pinch the bridge of his nose, then called for the bodyguard to find a way to unlock the door.

A few minutes later, the lock was opened.

Gu Beixian walked into the room.

Su Hua was lying on the bed, facing away from him, ignoring him.

Gu Beixian changed into his pajamas, lay down beside her, and pulled her into his arms.

Su Hua struggled but couldn’t break free. Her eyes were red, but her voice was cold as she said, “Have someone prepare the divorce papers tomorrow.”

Gu Beixian’s arms tightened around her. He was silent for a long time, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he said, “I’m tired. Let’s sleep.”

After dawn, Gu Beixian accompanied Su Hua for breakfast.

He reached out to touch her face, his gaze gentle. “I have a meeting this morning. I’ll come back at noon to have lunch with you.”

Su Hua turned her head to avoid him, saying lightly, “No need. Don’t forget about the divorce papers.”

Gu Beixian’s expression darkened. “Grandma’s health is very poor lately, and your hand is injured. Let’s talk about it later.”

He stood up, changed his clothes, and left.

After the doctor changed her dressing, Su Hua picked up a book and sat quietly on the bed to read.

By noon, a bodyguard knocked on the door and said, “Young Madam, Miss Chu’s mother is outside and wishes to see you.”

Su Hua was silent for a few seconds, then said, “Let her in.”

The door opened, and Hua Qirou walked in with swollen eyes, glaring at Su Hua, gritting her teeth. “It was you, wasn’t it?”

Su Hua was taken aback. “What?”

“You had someone smash Suosuo’s hand with a hammer, didn’t you?”

Su Hua’s expression paused for a moment, but she quickly calmed down and said, “It wasn’t me.”

Hua Qirou stepped forward and grabbed her collar. “You vicious little wretch! How cruel you are! You stole Suosuo’s beloved, and now you want to ruin her hand! I only have one daughter, just one! I treasure her like a jewel, afraid she’ll get hurt, afraid she’ll melt in my mouth, and you went and smashed her hand! Today, I’m going to fight you!”

Aunt Liu heard the commotion and rushed out of the bathroom, hurriedly pulling Hua Qirou away from Su Hua.

Even as Aunt Liu held her back, Hua Qirou kept lunging forward, cursing and reaching out to hit Su Hua.

“Bitch,” “wretch,” “country bumpkin”-all sorts of foul language spilled from her mouth.

She was the very picture of a shrew.

Su Hua listened quietly for a full seven or eight minutes, then said to Aunt Liu, “Aunt Liu, please step aside.”

Aunt Liu was stunned for a moment, then slowly let go of Hua Qirou and moved aside.

Su Hua grabbed the cup on the bedside table and hurled it at Hua Qirou’s face.

“Bang!”

A loud crash!

The stainless steel thermos hit her nose squarely.

Blood gushed instantly!

Su Hua pointed at the door and shouted, “Get out!”
