Choose Me - chapter 4
Suddenly, Pei Lang broke free from Tang Xue and walked toward me.
“Hey, where are you going?”
Tang Xue reached out to grab him, but he shoved her away harshly.
“Don’t touch me!”
He glared at Tang Xue with an expression I knew all too well.
Disgust. Revulsion.
He was certain Tang Xue couldn’t do without him, so he acted recklessly toward her.
I pressed my tongue against the roof of my mouth, feeling a bit irritable.
Bai Chuan frowned, wanting to intervene, but I stopped him with a look.
Pei Lang staggered over to me, as if those few steps had drained all his strength.
His legs gave out, and he dropped to one knee, barely managing not to collapse completely.
“Cheng Yi…”
Pei Lang struggled to lift his head, his gaze so sincere.
“I’m sorry. I know I was wrong.”
He reached out cautiously. “Can you forgive me?”
It seemed he had guessed I had been reborn too.
I didn’t move, and Pei Lang’s face showed a hint of joy, thinking he was about to grab my hand.
I looked at Tang Xue behind him. “Let me teach you how to make a Beastfolk obey.”
The next second, I kicked Pei Lang squarely in the chest with all my strength.
He flew backward, crashing hard into the chess table in the courtyard.
“Ugh… cough!”
Pei Lang’s face turned deathly pale. He clutched his chest and spat out a mouthful of blood.
Tang Xue rushed over, angrily scolding me, “What are you doing! He’s my Beastfolk. Even if he doesn’t listen, he’s still mine. When did it become your place to lay a hand on him!”
I tilted my head. “But you can’t control him. I don’t like foxes getting too close to me-they reek of fox stench.”
Pei Lang heard this and spat out another mouthful of blood, looking at me in disbelief.
Tang Xue’s face flushed. “Wha-what fox stench? You’re making things up. That’s discrimination against Beastfolk!”
“Tsk, if you say that, my Beastfolk will be unhappy.”
Bai Chuan’s face was cold as he glanced at the barely breathing Pei Lang and said to Tang Xue, “You should be grateful it was my Master who acted. Otherwise, I would have killed him.”
His calm tone carried undisguised murderous intent.
“You!” Tang Xue glared at him.
“You all…” She turned to look at me.
In the end, she snorted heavily, struggling to help Pei Lang up and headed straight for the house.
“Move aside! Can’t you see he’s dying!”
Everyone was here to see the doctor and had waited in line for a long time. No one wanted to let Tang Xue cut in.
So, Tang Xue was stuck at the door, supporting Pei Lang.
She shouted anxiously, “Miss Meng, Miss Meng, I’m begging you, please save him! He’s really dying!”
From inside the house came a gentle female voice, “He won’t die. Wait your turn.”
I raised my eyebrows. I rather liked this Meng Xi.
Tang Xue had no choice but to wait anxiously in line.
Pei Lang could no longer maintain a fully human form; his fox tail and ears had appeared.
Tang Xue glared at me hatefully. “I’m not done with you!”
I glanced at her. “Does your father know how much you spent to buy this Beastfolk?”
The Tang Family was different from the Cheng Family. The Cheng Family still showed some respect to Beastfolk, but the Tang Family treated them as mere animals.
If Tang Xue’s father found out she had spent millions on a useless Beastfolk, he’d definitely be furious.
Tang Xue was stunned. “You know my father?”
Then her eyes widened. “You’re threatening me!”
I just smiled.
Tang Xue pouted, tears of anger welling up as she sobbed.
I hadn’t expected her to cry and suddenly felt a headache coming on.
“Stop crying. Your Beastfolk isn’t anything special.”
“I won’t let you talk about him like that. He may be weak, but in my eyes, he’s worth thousands.”
Fine, I shut up.
After waiting for several hours, it was finally Pei Lang’s turn.
Bai Chuan and I had arrived late and were behind them in line.
When Tang Xue helped Pei Lang out of the house an hour later, his complexion had improved a lot.
When he looked at me, the grievance in his eyes was gone, replaced by a hint of reproach.
“Cheng Yi, you’re really ruthless.”
I clicked my tongue. “Not as much as you.”
“Stop wasting words with her. Let’s go.”
Tang Xue snorted at me and left, supporting Pei Lang.
Suddenly, Bai Chuan spoke behind me, “You know them?”
