I pointed to Meng Xi in the room. “It’s your turn.”

Bai Chuan pressed his lips together, ultimately said nothing, and stepped into the room.

I followed behind him, watching as Meng Xi examined him.

As expected of the merfolk, she didn’t need any instruments-just a touch and she could tell what illness the patient had.

I sincerely admired her. “That’s amazing.”

Meng Xi glanced at me and smiled. “It’s nothing much. There are countless people in my clan more skilled than I am, especially…”

Her eyes flickered, a trace of sorrow appearing, but she didn’t continue.

“He has some innate deficiencies, so he appears much weaker than other Beastfolk, and it will also affect his lifespan.”

Bai Chuan’s hand at his side suddenly clenched, and his voice grew tense. “Please, help me.”

He then turned to me for help.

I understood. “Money is not an issue.”

But Meng Xi shook her head and gave a bitter smile. “This is a congenital defect. My abilities are limited; I can’t fix it.”

Bai Chuan’s expression visibly fell, and his voice dropped a few notches.

“Thank you.”

He turned to leave, but Meng Xi looked at me.

“If Miss Cheng knows Lu Jingran, there might be a chance.”

I was a bit surprised.

Not only because Meng Xi recognized me, but also because of the name Lu Jingran.

Lu Jingran was the most talented and least restrained direct descendant of the Lu Family, known as Young Master Lu.

I once attended the same school as him, so we were somewhat acquainted, but his health was poor and he later dropped out.

We haven’t been in contact for years.

Could it be…

“Is there someone capable at Lu Jingran’s side?”

Meng Xi nodded. “All merfolk have healing abilities, but it depends on their talent. Even the least gifted merfolk can use their abilities to heal themselves, but the most talented among us can use their voices to assist, and are said to bring the dead back to life.”

I looked at Meng Xi in shock. “That miraculous? But I’ve never heard of such a thing.”

“It’s not surprising, because our clan hasn’t seen such a gifted merfolk in hundreds of years.”

Then, she changed the subject. “But in the past twenty years, there has been a merfolk born with this talent.”

A flash of insight crossed my mind, and I vaguely guessed something.

Bai Chuan asked urgently, “What’s her name?”

“Meng Tan.”

As expected.

“I understand. Thank you for telling me, Miss Meng.”

I took out a card and placed it on the table.

After we left, Bai Chuan couldn’t wait to ask, “Are we going to find Meng Tan?”

There was a hint of excitement in his eyes, and his previous composure was gone.

I pressed my lips together. “If possible, I’ll take you.”

In my previous life, I had heard of Meng Tan.

She was offered to the Lu Family by the merfolk for their own protection. With her extraordinary healing abilities, Lu Jingran was no longer plagued by illness.

She seemed to like Lu Jingran, but he had feelings for someone else and treated her poorly.

I don’t know what happened after that.

Because by then, I was already dead.

With Lu Jingran’s unruly nature, if I rashly approached him, he would definitely refuse to let Meng Tan treat Bai Chuan.

Bai Chuan noticed my worry and calmed down a bit. “Master, you don’t need to worry. I’m fine.”

That word, “Master,” drew glances from passersby.

I suddenly felt my face burn and coughed awkwardly twice. “In the future, there’s no need to call me that in public. Just use my name.”

Bai Chuan readily agreed. “Alright, Cheng Yi.”
