Novel Info

Growing up in a time of peace, all the chickens she ate were slaughtered and served by others. This was the first time she had witnessed someone killing a person so brazenly.

Blood blossomed like red plum flowers, blooming one after another until they formed a crimson sea.

Their faces were numb.

They were used to this sort of thing.

The hotel alarm did not go off.

As long as the danger was not directed at Gu Huaiwei, the hotel would not activate its defense measures.

The remaining five people carefully avoided the dust on their Protective Suits, removed their masks, and greedily breathed in the fresh air.

Excitement was written on every face.

This hotel really was as miraculous as the promotional posters claimed!

What surprised Gu Huaiwei was that, aside from the old man who had just killed someone, the other four-two men and two women-were all quite young.

“Hello, we’d like to check in.” The old man extended his blood-stained hand, his attitude polite.

Gu Huaiwei felt there was blood on his hand and did not shake it. Instead, she returned to the front desk and calmly pointed at the payment panel: “King Room, 30 Gold Coins; Twin Room, 40 Gold Coins; random killing, floor cleaning fee, 10 Gold Coins.”

“Heh.” The woman with a scar on her face seemed displeased with Gu Huaiwei’s words and let out a cold laugh.

The white-haired old man said nothing, his face stern, but obediently paid the cleaning fee.

“There are five of us. One King Room, two Twin Rooms, for one month.”

Gu Huaiwei began to introduce the discounts.

All room types were 50 Gold Coins cheaper for a monthly stay.

King Room, monthly rate: 850.

Twin Room, monthly rate: 1,150.

Total: 2,000 Gold Coins.

After they completed identity verification, the white-haired old man asked, “Can I pay by card?”

Gu Huaiwei nodded. “Yes.”

The old man pressed his display screen to the hotel’s payment terminal. With a beep, the computer showed that 2,000 Gold Coins had been received.

Gu Huaiwei assigned them to rooms on the second floor.

After they went upstairs, Gu Huaiwei turned back to check their identities one by one.

Her fingertip slid over the mouse.

These five people were from the Eighth District.

All were in green, uncontaminated status.

The hotel computer had a world map.

Clicking on the map, she could see the divisions of the Underground City.

There were a total of ten districts.

The gap between rich and poor was enormous.

The First District, Second District, and Third District were also known as the Upper District, rich in resources and controlling the Underground City’s groundwater. They had hospitals, schools, and complete infrastructure.

The Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Districts were called the Middle District, home to most survivors. Internal management was relatively strict. Although the quality of life was not high, as long as one worked hard, there was a way to survive.

The Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Districts were called the Lower District. The security in these three areas was worse and worse, a mix of all sorts, with murder and robbery as common as daily meals.

People from the Lower District rarely settled there permanently.

They had another identity: Wasteland Wanderers.

Gu Huaiwei tilted her head and asked, “Lin She, you went to the Eighth District today, right?”

Lin She was modifying the promotional poster and replied without looking up, “Yeah, I put the poster at their entrance.”

He was even shot at by the gatekeeper.

Of course, Lin She didn’t complain about what happened afterward. He was a good employee and wouldn’t complain about work.

Gu Huaiwei estimated the distance using the map’s scale. The Eighth District was at least twenty kilometers from the hotel.

“You got there and back pretty fast. How did you go?”

“I drove.”

The car was taken by force on the road.

He didn’t mention that either, because he was a good employee, and good employees prepared their own vehicles for business trips.
Lin She did not greet them; they, surprised he wasn’t wearing a Protective Suit, tailed him, wanting to see where he was going.

Along the way, a few of the young men wanted to make a move on Lin She, but the old man stopped them.

The reason the old man had survived for so long was because he was cautious enough.

He would never act unless he was one hundred percent certain.

In this way, they followed Lin She all the way to the Oasis Hotel.

When they saw the promotional poster at the entrance, the old man sent the nimblest scarred woman to grab a nearby patsy and send him into the hotel as a test.

Through these five people, Gu Huaiwei experienced what it truly meant to treat human life as worthless.

The corpse lying in the lobby was gradually growing cold.

The bloodshot eyes of the dead stared fixedly in Gu Huaiwei’s direction, a twisted face displaying both a smile and agony, unable to rest in peace.

“Lin She, throw the body out.”

“Alright.” Lin She tapped the keyboard, saved his design draft, then put on plastic gloves and dragged the corpse out by the arm.

The cleaning robot cleaned away the bloodstains.

No traces were left behind.

As if nothing had ever happened.

Gu Huaiwei thought of her sister again.

So, this was the world her sister had once faced.

Because of Lin She’s promotional posters, the Oasis Hotel gradually gained popularity.

Often, some shifty-eyed guests would hover around the entrance.

A few would muster up the courage to come in. When they found that the inside truly matched the posters, they joyfully spread the news.

The guests who had already checked in all became well-behaved after seeing the hotel’s impeccable security robots.

Several groups of people arrived in succession, openly and secretly inquiring about Gu Huaiwei’s identity.

They imagined all sorts of things.

Although Gu Huaiwei wore glasses, she had no traces of pollution or erosion on her. Pure flowers cannot bloom in the Wasteland; she looked more like a noble from the Upper District than a Wasteland Wanderer struggling to survive.

Some speculated that she was from the Upper District.

Some guessed she was not human.

Others thought she had undergone genetic modification and was an experimental subject released by the Black Spiral Research Institute.

There were all sorts of guesses.

Gu Huaiwei simply felt that after their probing, these people’s attitudes became strange.

One after another, they all acted very politely.

Some were even fearful.

Even Xiao Youqi, who had been very guarded against her at first, would now seek opportunities to talk to her, repeatedly emphasizing that he was the first guest to check in, and that perhaps the two of them could develop a bit of friendship.

Gu Huaiwei simply patted his shoulder and told him to focus on selling water. If he couldn’t do it well, there would be plenty of people eager to take his place.

This left Xiao Youqi feeling rather disheartened.

Business was now on track.

Rooms were in short supply.

In less than two weeks, a turnover of 10,000 Gold Coins was easily achieved.

A new email arrived on the computer.

Accompanied by a small confetti animation, the email opened.

[Congratulations on completing the first-stage sales target.]

[Next-stage sales target unlocked:
Please achieve a turnover of 100,000 Gold Coins and a Prosperity Level of 200 within half a year.]

[Remaining balance: 11,070 Gold Coins.
Oasis Hotel will be upgraded in two days.
This upgrade will cost: 10,000 Gold Coins]

[After this upgrade, the following areas will be unlocked: Hotel Theme Rooms, Staff Rest Area, Vending Machine]
