During the upgrade period, the staff needed to leave the Oasis Hotel. For two days, the hotel would not accept new guests, but those already staying could remain as usual, with robots temporarily taking over the work.

These messages were delivered via computer.

Since it wasn’t the boss contacting her directly, Gu Huaiwei felt a bit disappointed.

The day before the break, Gu Huaiwei sold all her remaining bottled water to Xiao Youqi.

To prove his worth, Xiao Youqi paid for everything in advance.

After several transactions, she had already earned quite a bit of gold from Xiao Youqi.

This money was enough for her to deal with some troublesome matters in the Real World.

As her shift was ending, Gu Huaiwei took the initiative to approach Lin She, who was typing away.

He seemed to be chatting with someone, his fingers flying across the keyboard, using the script of the Other World-strange symbols that Gu Huaiwei couldn’t understand.

Gu Huaiwei sat on the armrest of the long sofa, her black hair draping over her shoulders, and asked him softly, “Do you like eating eggs?”

Lin She nodded, his attention still on the computer.

Gu Huaiwei took two boiled eggs out of her pocket and placed them on the coffee table, a bit embarrassed. “Keep up the good work. I’ll cook them for you again next time.”

Lin She seemed a little surprised.

He stopped typing and tilted his head to look at Gu Huaiwei.

Usually, apart from assigning tasks, Gu Huaiwei rarely chatted with him. There was an invisible gap between them.

Lin She had grown used to this way of interacting.

After half a month of observation, Gu Huaiwei found that Lin She indeed had no connection with the boss behind the scenes.

She wanted to be a bit friendlier and build a good relationship with her only colleague.

Seeing Lin She’s dazed expression, Gu Huaiwei felt she might be overdoing it.

“Uh, if you don’t want them, I’ll just take them back as a midnight snack.”

Lin She quickly picked up the warm eggs, his thin black lips curving into a faint smile. “Thank you, I really like them.”

Seeing him accept them, Gu Huaiwei breathed a sigh of relief, her smile becoming more genuine. “You’re welcome. Whether it’s work or life, if you need any help, just let me know.”

“I don’t need you to do anything for me.”

“There’s always something.”

Lin She gazed at her with his dark green eyes-expressionless, emotionless, yet extremely earnest as he emphasized, “No need. I am your most capable assistant and will complete all the tasks you assign me, until the very last moment of business.”

That was his original purpose for coming here.

He would wholeheartedly assist Gu Huaiwei until the moment the gates of Paradise opened.

“All right, let’s work hard together and apply to the boss for a year-end bonus when the time comes.”

Gu Huaiwei didn’t know his background.

Nor did she understand the deeper meaning behind his words.

Her only goal was to win over an excellent employee.

Since Lin She said so, she had achieved her purpose.

When the clock struck midnight, Gu Huaiwei left through the staff passage, carrying heavy gold on her back.

She could feel several gazes on her from behind.

Someone was following her.

The guests here really were… unwilling to give up until the last moment.

She chuckled and quickened her pace.

The next second, she arrived in the Real World.

Qian Duoduo rushed over, pushing open the spot where Gu Huaiwei had disappeared, only to find a storage room filled with mops and buckets.

“She got away!”

The white-haired old man also stepped out from the shadows, his expression grave. “Just now, that female clerk left from here.”

Qian Duoduo frowned and shot the old man a dissatisfied glance. “No need to remind me, I’m not blind.”

“That’s strange. A living person just vanished into thin air.”

Several young men nearby, still unwilling to give up, entered the storage room to check for any hidden mechanisms.

But they found nothing.

This hotel was a big fat piece of meat.

But they couldn’t find a way to take a bite.

The Scarred Woman, who was following the old man, played with the knife in her hand and said lazily, “That male clerk, I can’t see through him. But the female clerk definitely hasn’t killed anyone-she doesn’t have the scent of blood on her.”

Compared to Lin She, Gu Huaiwei seemed like an easy target, a big fat sheep.

The white-haired old man said nothing.

Everyone present fell silent.

They could sense that Gu Huaiwei was someone who lived in the light.
Such people should be the easiest to deal with.

Yet no one could do anything about her.

People from the Other World cannot enter the Real World through the staff passage.

After shaking off the tail following her, Gu Huaiwei took a taxi to find Mu Lingxi.

As the taxi reached the entrance of the alley, Gu Huaiwei sensed something was wrong.

A trash can in the alley had been knocked over, and there were traces of blood on the ground.

The road inside was not suitable for driving, so Gu Huaiwei got out of the car and ran in.

Something must have happened!

The door to Mu Lingxi’s house was ajar, and there was light inside.

Gu Huaiwei pushed the door open and entered.

A glass cup came flying through the air.

Gu Huaiwei instinctively turned her face to the side. Before she was even aware of the cup, her body had already dodged the attack on reflex.

The glass cup narrowly grazed her face, flew behind her, and shattered.

Gu Huaiwei saw Mu Lingxi, flustered and at a loss.

Her eyes were red, her lips bruised, as if she had just been crying. She looked like a frightened rabbit, clutching a pair of scissors tightly in her hand.

“What happened?”

Gu Huaiwei closed the door, walked over, sat down beside her, and gently took the scissors from her hand.

“Wah!”

Mu Lingxi threw herself into Gu Huaiwei’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably on her shoulder.

A surge of anger rose in Gu Huaiwei’s heart.

“Who bullied you? Tell me.”

Between sobs, Mu Lingxi told Gu Huaiwei about the thugs who came to collect debts and bullied her.

These past two days, while Gu Huaiwei was away, Mu Lingxi had planned to visit several supermarkets to compare the prices of bottled water.

A group of thugs had been unable to find any trace of Gu Huaiwei for over twenty days.

Knowing that Mu Lingxi was Gu Huaiwei’s friend, they followed her home.

There were no surveillance cameras in the old alley.

They caught Mu Lingxi and tried to force her to reveal Gu Huaiwei’s whereabouts.

Mu Lingxi refused to speak, so she was slapped several times, and her arm was cut during the struggle.

Fortunately, before things got worse, her cries for help alerted the elderly lady next door, who called the police. The police arrived in time and took the thugs away for investigation.

“Those thugs definitely have someone backing them!” Mu Lingxi’s favorite red hairband had been broken. She bit her lower lip in frustration. “They’re regulars at the police station, always fighting and causing trouble. They hit me but refused to admit it. There’s no surveillance at the door, so the police can’t keep them locked up for long.”

Gu Huaiwei listened in silence.

It was one thing for those people to harass her, but now they were targeting her friend as well. Unforgivable.

She wiped away Mu Lingxi’s tears, dabbed some iodine, and used tweezers with a cotton swab to gently disinfect the bruise at the corner of her mouth, then bandaged the wound on her arm.

After finishing, Gu Huaiwei took her hand and said, “Let’s go.”

“Where to?”

“We’re moving.” Gu Huaiwei contacted an agent and took Mu Lingxi to look for a new place.

“But, the money…”

“Not a problem.” Gu Huaiwei unzipped her backpack, revealing a pile of gleaming gold-sixty pieces in total, heavy and substantial, worth over 1.2 million yuan, enough for a down payment on a small apartment in City A.

“Wow! So much gold!” Mu Lingxi was dazzled by the sight, and her wounds seemed to hurt less. She grabbed a handful and let it fall back, looking at Gu Huaiwei with admiration. “You really are as amazing as Changge.”

“I’ll find out who’s behind them. The most important thing now is to get a safer place to live.”

“Okay.” Mu Lingxi immediately got off the bed and started packing her things.

After arranging to view apartments with the agent at eight the next morning, the two of them took their luggage and checked into a local five-star hotel.

Two thousand yuan a night, breakfast included.

The hotel manager looked at Gu Huaiwei’s face again and again, then uncertainly pulled up the news about the Gu Sisters Group’s bankruptcy from a while ago.

“That’s strange. Didn’t the company go bankrupt and all assets get seized? How does she still have money to stay in a place like this?”

The doorman helped with the luggage.

Mu Lingxi clung to Gu Huaiwei, covering her mouth with her hand and whispering, “Aren’t we being a bit too high-profile? We might make the news tomorrow.”

Gu Huaiwei looked straight ahead and walked forward calmly. “Let’s throw out some smoke bombs and keep those rats hiding in the gutters awake at night.”
