Dimensional Store: Welcome to the Apocalypse Apartment - Chapter 12
That night, with a soft bed and comfortable pillows, Gu Huaiwei managed to soothe Mu Lingxi and rested quite well.
But in City A, many people lost sleep because of Gu Huaiwei.
At the Jiang Family villa, at two in the morning, the brass chandelier cast a gentle light over the tense members of the Jiang Family.
A middle-aged man in a suit, his hair slicked back, sat on the leather sofa deep in thought.
Beside him sat a beautiful woman, quiet as a meticulously crafted work of art, exuding elegance and composure.
These two were the current heads of the Jiang Family.
Mr. Jiang and Mrs. Jiang.
They were also the former “partners” who, after Gu Changge’s disappearance, wasted no time in kicking the Gu Family when they were down, suppressing Gu Corporation and buying up their assets at low prices.
In front of them, on a red tray, lay Gold Coins from the Other World.
The Jiang Family’s third young master, Jiang Xingyi, complained discontentedly, “Dad, Mom, not only did Gu Huaiwei not end up on the streets, she even got her hands on these Gold Coins. She’s sleeping soundly in a hotel right now!”
The Second Miss of Jiang Family, Jiang Yingyue, stared at the Gold Coins, her eyes filled with loathing.
“Since we’ve already made a move, we should finish her off in one go. If Gu Huaiwei recovers, she’ll definitely come after us for revenge.”
“Second Sister is right.” Jiang Xingyi, his hair dyed blonde, chewed gum with a sour expression. “Gu Changge, who sold antique vases, is gone, and now Gu Huaiwei shows up, turning gold out of thin air. The Gu Family really is hard to kill.”
The siblings echoed each other’s sentiments.
Mr. Jiang leaned forward slightly, his hands clasped over his knees, his gaze deep as he asked his taciturn eldest son, “Richen, what do you think?”
Jiang Richen, the eldest young master, replied seriously, “Father, I want to continue the marriage agreement with the Gu Family.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yingyue sneered, “Big Brother, Gu Changge has been missing for over a month. Are you going to become a lovesick fool waiting for her to come back?”
Jiang Richen shot a reproachful look at his naïve sister and explained, “Gu Huaiwei has cards we haven’t seen yet. I want her to take over Gu Changge’s marriage agreement.”
Jiang Yingyue muttered, “If she had cards, she should’ve played them when the company collapsed.”
But with gold right in front of her, she didn’t sound so confident.
Jiang Richen sighed, “Don’t you all feel that the Gu sisters are rather uncanny?”
For a moment, the atmosphere froze.
Even Jiang Xingyi, usually the most careless and least concerned with business, said, “Are the Gu sisters really orphans? I always feel like there’s someone behind them.”
This was a question on many people’s minds.
The Jiang Family had started investigating the antique vases the Gu sisters brought out half a year ago.
They had built their fortune on those items.
They even opened a curio shop and joined the antique trade.
Initially, the Jiang Family suspected the Gu sisters of grave robbing to obtain the antiques, but after investigation, found no evidence of tomb raiding.
Later, they reported them for unexplained large sums of money.
After a period of investigation, the authorities sealed the source records and only gave one conclusion: all items had legal provenance.
The Jiang Family had pulled strings behind the scenes and spent a lot of money, but gained nothing.
In the end, they had to swallow their anger and cooperate with the Gu Family.
The elegant and dignified Mrs. Jiang stroked the pearls on her wrist and said gently, “We’ve already made enemies where we needed to. The acquisitions will proceed as planned. As for Second Miss Gu, Richen, you should reach out to her.”
Mrs. Jiang’s words carried significant weight.
Jiang Richen immediately nodded. “Yes, Mother.”
Gu Huaiwei got up early in the morning, stretched lazily, helped Mu Lingxi change her bandages, and the two of them headed straight to the real estate agency.
The young lady at the agency was beautiful, kind-hearted, and professional. She introduced the pros and cons of three apartments to them one by one.
“Miss Gu, my top recommendation is the second one. The community has full surveillance coverage, it’s close to the city center, has two subway stations nearby, convenient transportation, and the price is not high-just 5,000 a month for the whole place.”
Mu Lingxi hesitated a little. “Huaiwei, I think it’s a bit expensive.”
“Let me just ask you one thing-do you like the second one?”
Other than being a bit small, the second apartment had no other drawbacks.
The interior was exquisitely decorated, fully equipped with appliances, ready to move in with just your luggage-perfect for Mu Lingxi.
Mu Lingxi nodded honestly. “I like it, but…”
“No buts.” Gu Huaiwei immediately said to the sales lady, “We’ll take the second one. Let’s sign the contract and pay the deposit now. I’ll pay. Just add me as a friend.”
“Great! The contract is already printed!” The agency lady successfully closed the deal, her face beaming with joy.
The agency lady knew that the person in front of her was the recently bankrupt Miss of the Gu Family.
Her colleagues all said the Gu Family was finished, that she couldn’t even scrape together three hundred yuan in her bank card, and that going to meet her would be a waste of time.
But she still came.
Not only did she come, but her service was impeccable.
As a result, she successfully rented out this expensive apartment.
Mu Lingxi was a little moved. After signing the contract, she said, “Huaiwei, consider this money a loan from you. I will definitely pay you back in the future.”
Gu Huaiwei accepted gladly. “Alright, once you replace that useless brother of yours and inherit the family business, you can pay me back.”
After helping Mu Lingxi move in, it was already afternoon.
Mu Lingxi reserved a guest room just for Gu Huaiwei, so she could come and stay anytime.
After they finished, they went downstairs to a noodle shop and casually had two bowls of ramen.
Gu Huaiwei slurped her noodles heartily. “After we finish eating, take me to meet the person who buys gold.”
“That person lost contact a couple of days ago. His phone can’t be reached.” Mu Lingxi scooped up some pickled vegetables and twirled her noodles with her chopsticks. “There are plenty of gold buyers. I’ll introduce you to another one.”
“Lost contact?” Gu Huaiwei smiled. “The Jiang Family really can’t hold back, can they?”
Mu Lingxi’s chopsticks paused. She looked up, a bit of noodle still stuck to the corner of her mouth. “You think the Jiang Family did it?”
“Mm. Including those debt collectors-they were most likely hired by them too.” Gu Huaiwei pulled out a napkin and wiped her mouth.
“What a bunch of petty people!”
“And they don’t even have the guts to admit it,” Gu Huaiwei added.
“Ladies, speaking ill of others behind their backs is hardly ladylike behavior.” A man in a white shirt appeared at the entrance of the noodle shop. His expensive leather shoes looked completely out of place amid the greasy floors.
Mu Lingxi’s chopsticks trembled.
Getting caught gossiping was a bit embarrassing.
Gu Huaiwei looked up, and when she saw who it was, she wasn’t surprised at all.
She didn’t get up, just continued eating her noodles. “Jiang Family Eldest Young Master, do you also enjoy the ramen here?”
