Chapter 136

Gu Huaiwei poked the Big Fat Worm inside the glass jar and looked down. “Me too.”

She was waiting as well.

Waiting for the moment the Paradise Gate would open.

Gu Huaiwei had written the script for this dating show herself. After handing it to Lin She, she told him to revise it as he saw fit-especially the game segments. She asked him not to tell her about the changes afterward so that her reactions would remain authentic.

Before filming began, Bai Miemie was helping the scruffy middle-aged man, Ji Xuan, transform in the newly unlocked hair and makeup studio.

“Phew, could you at least take a shower before you come in?” Bai Miemie wrinkled her nose in distaste.

“I’ll go now.” Ji Xuan hadn’t groomed himself in far too long. At Bai Miemie’s reminder, he sniffed his armpit and realized that his Skin Suit hadn’t been washed in ages; it was already starting to smell.

Bai Miemie pinched her small nose with one hand and pointed toward the shower stall with the other. “There, go wash up over there.”

Humans were much more particular about appearance than Aliens.

The old woman’s cousin was named Lin Xiaomei. She didn’t even need special makeup; she simply put on a light blue dress and made her entrance like a delicate flower.

Because of her illness, He Jiarui’s skin appeared exceptionally pale. Her frail body left her gasping for breath after only a few steps, and she was unable to engage in any strenuous activity, giving her an air of vulnerability that invited pity.

Inside the shower stall, Ji Xuan took off his Skin Suit and scrubbed it for a long time before putting it back on.

Bai Miemie pushed Ji Xuan into a chair. She was small, but she managed to wheel the heavy Ji Xuan in front of the mirror.

“I’m going to dye your hair brown. And this messy beard of yours-it needs a proper trim.”

Ji Xuan straightened his features and pinched the bridge of his nose to make it higher. “Whatever you say.” His gaze remained fixed on He Jiarui, watching her so intently that his facial features almost started to drift out of place.

Scissors and combs danced before the mirror. Bai Miemie was particularly skilled at grooming. After dyeing Ji Xuan’s hair, she tousled it with her small hands, and his hairstyle instantly looked natural and voluminous.

Gu Huaiwei’s only job in this show was to draw aggro and serve as a foil for the other guests.

She took off her glasses, tossed them onto the table, and picked up a makeup brush to start on her own face in the mirror.

The girl in the reflection had upturned eyes that lacked warmth. Gu Huaiwei used dark eyeshadow to emphasize this aggressive look, made the red mole at the corner of her eye more prominent, and used highlights and shadows to sharpen her soft facial structure, raising her cheekbones and applying an exaggerated, flaming red lipstick.

When she finished, Gu Huaiwei looked at herself in the mirror with satisfaction. Perfect. She now looked like a wicked widow who had just strangled her husband and flushed him down the toilet.

When Zhou Chuanning walked in, he almost didn’t recognize her.

Wu Ming was even more blunt. “Miss Gu, am I seeing things? You’re a human; how did you change your Skin Suit?”

“This is called the art of makeup,” Gu Huaiwei said, somewhat proudly brandishing three brushes in her hand.

“You looked better before.” Zhou Chuanning didn’t usually care about human appearances, but seeing Gu Huaiwei like this, he instinctively felt that this version of her wasn’t suited for wearing a collar.

“Well, you’ll just have to deal with it, because I’ll be wearing this face for the next three days and two nights of filming.”

***

On the day filming began.

The lighting and camera crews were all in position.

“Our first human guest is already five minutes late.” The cameraman pointed the lens at Gu Huaiwei’s empty seat.

Gu Huaiwei had arrived late on purpose. She wore a long black dress with black lace trim winding around the neckline like a spiderweb as she made her slow entrance.

“Sorry, you all started too early.” Gu Huaiwei’s eyes narrowed into sharp slits, a sharp, mocking smile playing on her lips.
Flowers cannot bloom without green leaves to set them off.

Gu Huaiwei’s mission this time was to serve as a foil for the other guests, boosting their popularity and helping them win the audience’s favor.

However, the bullet comments were heading in a rather strange direction.

[This human guest looks so healthy. Her voice is so sharp when she speaks; you can tell her cardiopulmonary function is excellent. I want to take her home and initiate a Bonding.]

[She pushed the blame for being late onto the production crew-her mental state is incredibly stable.]

[Even though she’s dressed like an old lady, you can tell from the elasticity of her skin that she’s a very young human. Feels like she’ll live a long time.]

[Is no one paying attention to the host? Is he a human or an Alien? That Skin Suit is incredibly handsome! I need the host’s contact info!]

Gu Huaiwei was in the middle of filming and couldn’t see the bullet comments.

The first round was the “Heartbeat Choice” segment.

Gu Huaiwei chose Zhou Chuanning.

Ji Xuan chose He Jiarui, He Jiarui chose Chen Liuxiang, and Chen Liuxiang chose the human youth she had brought along, Lu Beijiu.

Wu Ming was genuinely there to find a partner. Having never dated a human before, he was a firm believer in pure love, so he chose Lin Xiaomei, who had not yet removed her Newborn Ring.

Lin Xiaomei was more inclined toward Aliens wearing male Skin Suits, so she reciprocated his choice.

Lu Beijiu tapped on his phone and asked the host, “Can I choose a human?”

He Xueyi nodded. “Of course. Our show focuses on authenticity.”

[Why did he ask that? Don’t tell me he’s a human who wants to choose another human?]

[If he chooses a human, his bones might turn brittle and his face might age before the show even finishes filming.]

[I hate watching humans date humans. Humans should belong to Aliens.]

[Exactly. Humans are the inalienable property of Aliens!]

Having received He Xueyi’s confirmation, Lu Beijiu sent his heartbeat text.

*Ding-dong-*

With her ink-black hair pinned back, Gu Huaiwei looked down at her phone. Seeing the messages from both Zhou Chuanning and Lu Beijiu, the corners of her mouth twitched downward.

Lu Beijiu’s text: *The first time I saw you, it felt like a reunion after a long separation.*

Zhou Chuanning’s message followed the script they had agreed upon.

What was wrong with this Lu Beijiu?

Couldn’t he just stick to Chen Liuxiang and play his part in that melodramatic four-way love tangle?

After the selection segment ended, the eight participants moved into the romantic villa they had unlocked earlier.

This place was part of the Oasis Matchmaking Agency’s territory, so Gu Huaiwei felt like she was returning home.

Aliens only needed to drink Nutrient Solution.

During the evening cooking segment, the Aliens were supposed to show off their skills in the kitchen while the humans interacted beside them.

Ji Xuan was He Jiarui’s Keeper and remembered all her flavor preferences. He Jiarui, however, only wanted Ji Xuan to help her one last time-to make Chen Liuxiang realize how to properly care for a human bonded partner.

The meal was eaten with everyone harboring their own hidden agendas.

Gu Huaiwei was there purely to eat. Whichever pot finished cooking first, she would dive in with her chopsticks.

As she ate, she used a high-pitched, affected voice to say, “I’ll have a taste first. You guys won’t be mad, right?”

Gu Huaiwei thought that being rude and stirring her chopsticks randomly in the pots would surely make her loathsome. Instead, all the Aliens served portions of the finished food directly in front of her.

Even if she ate it all, they wouldn’t be angry.

On the contrary, they would just cook a larger pot.

[This human has such a good appetite. Humans with good digestion always live longer.]

[I wish my bonded human had such a good appetite. I’m so envious.]

[I love watching humans eat. The more they eat, the better. The fatter they get, the more eggs their bodies can carry.]

“Burp~”
