Chapter 138

Zhou Chuanning was piloting the Biological Spaceship. Gu Huaiwei watched as his two hands split repeatedly, becoming eight, operating every button on the ship with the dexterity of an octopus.

Under his expert manipulation, accompanied by a low hum, the ship slowly ascended from the mist-shrouded marshland, flying toward a celestial anomaly shimmering with a strange luster.

The anomaly looked like a gash torn into the calm sky. The edges of the rift were a bruised purplish-red, resembling an inflamed wound.

Gu Huaiwei knew that behind this celestial anomaly lay the true Alien base. Passing through the anomaly required a permit, which humans could not obtain alone; they had to rely on Aliens. Since Gu Huaiwei’s business was primarily on the ground, she had never attempted to go up there.

Through the porthole, Gu Huaiwei watched the purple, miasma-filled swamp shrink bit by bit until it vanished from her sight. Once they rose above the clouds, clusters of vibrant nebulae quietly parted. Lightning flickered within the heart of the nebulae, and the Biological Spaceship vibrated as it passed through them.

“It’s beautiful!” Gu Huaiwei exclaimed in wonder.

“Your Keeper never brought you up here?”

Gu Huaiwei shook her head honestly.

A hint of a smile touched Zhou Chuanning’s eyes, and he asked with concern, “I thought you wouldn’t like the environment up here, but it seems you’re adapting well. No dizziness or ringing in your ears?”

“No.” Gu Huaiwei had always possessed a strong constitution.

“There’s a nebula cluster ahead. It’ll be a bumpy ride, so make sure your seatbelt is stuck on tight.” Zhou Chuanning extended an extra tentacle from behind him and patted Gu Huaiwei’s hair.

At that moment, Lin She was sprawled across the top of the Biological Spaceship like a vine wrapped around a branch. Lightning from the nebula struck his body, surrounding him with purple electrical currents, but not a trace of pain showed in his dark green vertical pupils.

“So the sticky stuff on this chair is a seatbelt…” Gu Huaiwei leaned back. He could have said so earlier; his silence had triggered her reflexes, forcing her to cut away some of the lace at the back of her skirt to ensure she could move freely.

Fortunately, the lace was layered, so she wasn’t in danger of exposing herself.

After a period of violent jolting, Gu Huaiwei spotted the spaceship that the Oasis Matchmaking Agency had rented at a high price. This ship was charged by the day, costing six thousand Magnetic Value per day. Just renting it for two days had cost twelve thousand. She hadn’t even been willing to try riding it herself, bringing it out purely for He Jiarui and the others to use for their space date.

Zhou Chuanning looked at Gu Huaiwei’s profile. The vivid red mole beneath the corner of her eye made her look exceptionally charming. As an Alien, humans held no distinction of beauty or ugliness in his eyes-only health-but as the cosmic light fell upon Gu Huaiwei through the window, it was as if he were looking at a radiant Broodmother.

“Miss Gu, there is something I don’t want to hide from you. Actually, I had a human Bonding partner once before.”

“Your lifespans far exceed those of humans. It’s normal to have had a few Bonding partners.” Gu Huaiwei took the news well.

Zhou Chuanning was confessing his marital history, but whether it was his second or third marriage, it had nothing to do with her.

“I was too young back then and didn’t know how to cherish a human.

I showed my true form to that human, hoping my Bonding partner could accept the real me. However, I overestimated human endurance.

Because my partner saw my true face, they were so terrified their heart raced uncontrollably. They suffered from constant nightmares and high fevers, and in the end, they couldn’t be saved even after being taken to the hospital.”

Zhou Chuanning’s voice was tinged with sorrow. He didn’t want to hide his past; telling Gu Huaiwei this was his way of showing his sincerity.
Gu Huaiwei tilted her head, studying Zhou Chuanning. An Alien was essentially just a giant tentacle monster stuffed inside a human Skin Suit. She wondered what was so terrifying about them that they could literally scare a person to death.

“Do you want to give me a live performance? I’ve never actually seen an Alien shed its Skin Suit completely.”

“Aren’t you afraid?”

“Of what? Horror movies are my favorite.”

The corners of Gu Huaiwei’s lips curled upward slightly. That hidden sliver of danger made her pores tingle; there was no fear, only excitement.

“I’m sorry, but I will never make the same mistake again.” Zhou Chuanning retracted his multiple tentacles and looked at Gu Huaiwei earnestly. “Even if your Mental Value exceeds its limit, I won’t let you see my ugly side. If you’re willing to give me a chance, I want to take good care of you.”

“You should say that in front of the cameras,” Gu Huaiwei replied with a nonchalant shrug.

She felt that this kind of confession moment should be filmed to boost the livestream’s ratings. Since there were no cameras now, talking about it was a waste of breath.

Zhou Chuanning misunderstood her. His eyes grew exceptionally dark and bright, and something began to bulge beneath his Skin Suit, as if countless insects were crawling under his skin. It took a long moment for him to calm down.

“Do you mean… if I confess in front of the cameras, you’ll give me a chance and consider being with me?” His voice could hardly conceal his excitement.

“I believe I told you that a fortune teller said I can’t undergo Bonding with an Alien, otherwise I’ll die young.” Gu Huaiwei was certain she would eventually leave this Dimension; she wouldn’t stay for any reason.

Never mind this absurd interspecies romance that lacked any emotional foundation-even if she truly met her one true love, she would choose to keep the regret buried in her heart and move on to the next Dimension.

Jumping Dimensions meant gaining wealth beyond measure, the chance for eternal youth, and perhaps even immortality. How could the fleeting sentiments of a small world compare to the temptation of the Dimensions?

“We don’t have to undergo Bonding for now. Let me be your lover,” Zhou Chuanning said with an inexplicable obsession for Gu Huaiwei. “Stop using fate as an excuse. As long as I’m here, I won’t let you die.”

“Let’s get back to the case. Why did you bring me here? What did you want me to see?” Gu Huaiwei didn’t care for endless pestering. Her lack of response to his passion was, in itself, the best answer.

Zhou Chuanning had grown accustomed to Gu Huaiwei’s coldness.

He said, “There’s no rush. I haven’t finished what I wanted to say.”

Gu Huaiwei raised a hand. “Go on, then.”

Zhou Chuanning continued recounting the past.

“Chen Liuxiang and I graduated from the same school. Afterward, I joined the police academy, and she went back to inherit her family business.

“Chen Liuxiang was the original Keeper of my previous Bonding partner. Rather than saying that human was raised by Chen Liuxiang, it would be more accurate to say we raised them together.

“When that lovely human reached adulthood, they didn’t choose Chen Liuxiang; they chose me. Because of that, Chen Liuxiang and I nearly became enemies.

“After the human died, Chen Liuxiang maintained a friendship with me on the surface, but I know she has always held a grudge. She hates me for obtaining what she wanted but failing to cherish it.”

“She thinks that human died because of you.” Gu Huaiwei didn’t think Zhou Chuanning was lying. During her first date at the café, Chen Liuxiang had suddenly appeared and said something quite cryptic to her.

“Lu Beijiu-the human guest you invited-looks about seventy percent similar to my previous Bonding partner.”
