Dimensional Store: Welcome to the Apocalypse Apartment - Chapter 141
Chapter 141
Gu Huaiwei thought about it for a moment, then squinted her eyes and smiled, revealing two sharp canines. “Sure, let’s help each other out.”
She wanted Zhou Chuanning to participate in that melodramatic love square to boost the livestream’s ratings.
“I need to finish up the business at the shop first.” Gu Huaiwei squeezed his soft, seemingly boneless fingers. “Don’t worry, I’m a woman of my word.”
Gu Huaiwei intended to manage the Oasis Matchmaking Agency well and upgrade it to Five-Star status before dealing with the entanglement between her sister and the Dawn Alliance.
The large spaceship dating venue was filled with dreamlike scenery, every inch of it radiating the fragrant scent of Magnetic Value.
Nebulae swirled around the perimeter like gossamer veils; the cosmic galaxy itself was the ultimate symbol of romance.
Floating planetary lamps rotated slowly, casting a glow where lavender and silver-white intertwined.
Bai Miemie had previously mentioned that the luster was a bit gaudy, but Gu Huaiwei found it quite ethereal.
Aside from the planetary lamps, her favorite feature was the massive, transparent viewing port. Since she had spent Magnetic Value to go into space, she naturally wanted to enjoy the vast infinity of the universe at every moment.
[Is anyone going to roast the set design for this event? I can’t help but feel like the client behind this is some nouveau riche tacky boss.]
[This is the first time I’ve seen such a huge logo on a planetary lamp!]
[Didn’t humans have five thousand years of civilization before we occupied this planet? I seriously suspect there’s some fluff in the history of human aesthetics.]
After Gu Huaiwei and Zhou Chuanning entered the interior of the event ship, the filming crew followed them in.
In front of the camera, Gu Huaiwei needed to act mean and haughty, ordering Zhou Chuanning around to do this and that to contrast with the gentleness of the other humans.
Gu Huaiwei stood by the massive transparent viewing port, pointing at a distant planet emitting a faint blue halo. With an arrogant expression, she said, “That tiny bit of Magnetic Value isn’t enough to sway my heart. If you want to take things further with me, you have to at least give me a planet like that one.”
Zhou Chuanning looked in the direction Gu Huaiwei was pointing and frowned slightly. “That is a cryo-planet. It’s barren, lacks resources, and is plagued by year-round storms. A human body wouldn’t even be able to land on it.”
Even space pirates had no interest in such a desolate rock.
It was essentially trash.
Zhou Chuanning felt he shouldn’t give such trash to Gu Huaiwei; she deserved better.
Gu Huaiwei clasped her hands over her chest and said with extreme affectation, “But it looks like a sapphire.”
“I can give you gems.” Zhou Chuanning understood that humans liked those shiny stones.
During his past space missions, he had collected many rare ores on remote planets. Those ores were expensive and beautiful; if Gu Huaiwei liked them, he could give them to her as a gift.
“What I want is a planet that looks like a gem, not a gem that looks like a planet,” Gu Huaiwei said, being intentionally unreasonable for the camera.
She figured that Aliens would generally hate humans who wasted Magnetic Value. A planet was both expensive and useless; by asking for one, she was sure to attract a lot of hate.
What Gu Huaiwei didn’t know was that a cryo-planet with zero resources was like a piece of unclaimed wasteland-it was incredibly cheap and could be bought for a single Magnetic Value.
However, the direction of the bullet comments was completely different from what Gu Huaiwei had anticipated.
[Oh my god, there’s actually a human interested in those resource-less planets.]
[So romantic! Quick, buy it for her!]
[I also want to give a planet to a human who is willing to enter a Bonding with me just because they like a cryo-planet.]
[What a humble wish, what a non-materialistic human. I declare her my favorite human guest of this season!]
Lin She turned a corner from a dark shadow, appearing as if he had been there all along. Gu Huaiwei caught sight of Lin She out of the corner of her eye and momentarily stepped away from the camera.
“Officer Zhou, I’m going to head to the restroom for a moment.”
Away from the gaudy sets, Lin She stood at the edge of an unlit corridor, leaning against a wall that shimmered with a metallic luster. His presence was barely noticeable.
“Lin She, you heard everything Zhou Chuanning and I said on the spaceship, right?
“After the shoot ends today, I need you to rush out a press release. Embellish the story between Chen Liuxiang, Zhou Chuanning, and Lu Beijiu a bit, then post it on this world’s websites to stir up some drama.”
“Of course.” In the dim light, Lin She’s dark green eyes emitted a faint glow.
Gu Huaiwei pinned the needle Lin She had given her back onto his cuff. “Here’s your needle back. The press release was a last-minute arrangement, so you might need to work some overtime tonight.”
“You should rest tonight. Leave the draft to me. I’ll have it finished and on your desk for you to review tomorrow morning.” Except during his hibernation periods, Lin She didn’t require much sleep.
His gaze drifted downward as he used his cold fingertips to touch a stitched section of Gu Huaiwei’s lace dress. His voice was low and raspy. “There are still some wrinkles here that might affect your image on screen. After the livestream ends, there’s still the recorded broadcast for the TV station. I’ll fix this part of the dress for you, frame by frame, in post-production.”
“Thanks for the trouble.” Whenever it came to work, Lin She was always professional and meticulous. Gu Huaiwei carried a heavy burden on her shoulders, but fortunately, she had several employees to help share the load.
“I heard you promise Zhou Chuanning that you would go to the Dawn Alliance. Once the work at the Matchmaking Agency is finished, I will accompany you there.” Having been by Gu Huaiwei’s side for a long time, Lin She had slowly become able to sense her moods.
On ordinary days, Gu Huaiwei always seemed to wear a mask. She appeared to sit comfortably at her workstation, but in reality, she rarely let her assistants get close to her.
She kept things hidden in her heart-from her name to her true objectives. She never mentioned her past to them, nor did she show any part of her life outside of work.
However, Lin She had figured out his own way of getting along with Gu Huaiwei: proactively solving her work problems when she was at her busiest. This would make her relax, and then she would agree to his further requests.
He wasn’t as good at putting on a facade as He Xueyi, nor did he possess the innate non-threatening nature of a vegetarian like Bai Miemie.
But he had his own strengths. He was more patient and better at staying submerged in the shadows. He would remain silent, constantly observing Gu Huaiwei’s habits.
Gu Huaiwei had only agreed to help Zhou Chuanning; as for who would stay behind to mind the shop and who would go with her, she hadn’t given it much thought yet.
Lin She’s suggestion to accompany her now was clearly an attempt to stake his claim early.
Gu Huaiwei didn’t overthink it and agreed as readily as he had expected. “Fine, I’ll take you with me this time.”
With Bai Miemie at the shop alongside He Xueyi, they were more than capable of handling the business.
Deciding who to take along for personal matters was, in truth, a minor detail.
Since her excuse was going to the restroom, she couldn’t linger here for too long.
Gu Huaiwei gave Lin She a few more instructions regarding the press release. “The draft doesn’t need to be too explicit; the gossip-hungry public will figure it out on their own. I’m going back to continue the shoot. Keep an eye on Chen Liuxiang and those couples to ensure we get complete footage.”
Lin She countered with a question, “When have I ever let you down regarding work?”
Gu Huaiwei paused just as she was about to leave. She placed a hand on her hip. “Please. I told you to follow the quartet for the shoot today, but instead, you ended up outside my spaceship peeping. I haven’t even settled that score with you yet.”
