Chapter 152

Because the livestream was public, Gu Huaiwei couldn’t ask too many probing questions even if she wanted to test the person. She dismissed it as a prank and had the administrator kick the user offline.

However, after the livestream ended that day, Gu Huaiwei received a flood of harassing private messages from that same person.

The individual didn’t call the police or seek revenge. Instead, they kept warning her not to try and expand the Oasis Matchmaking Agency’s influence online, nor to continue opening branch stores, or she would face retribution.

Gu Huaiwei wasn’t about to give up on upgrading the Oasis Matchmaking Agency because of a few vague threats. She had Lin She track the person down through their ID, following the digital trail back to the source.

In this world, humans who didn’t obtain enough Magnetic Value would age rapidly. However, aging didn’t mean a quick death; a human’s natural lifespan was still the same as it was before the celestial anomalies appeared. It was just that rapid aging led to a decline in physical functions, osteoporosis, and a higher susceptibility to illness and accidents, making it seem as though their lifespans had shortened.

The four branch stores in their trial run needed interns, and He Xueyi was primarily responsible for the interviews.

Surprisingly, more humans came to apply than Aliens. They were thin, their faces etched with wrinkles, but their eyes were exceptionally bright, as if filled with hope for life. However, under the current employment climate, humans who relied on their own work without Bonding mostly appeared elderly and lacked the physical strength of Aliens.

Gu Huaiwei was running a business, not a charity. She sympathized with the plight of the humans here and felt that those trying to survive on their own were admirable, but in terms of recruitment, choosing the most cost-effective Alien employees was the wiser move.

“What do you think? Should I set up some Human Reserved Positions in these branches?” Gu Huaiwei looked at the pile of resumes in her hand. “I didn’t expect the job market in this world to be so competitive. My salary offer isn’t even that high, yet so many people are applying.”

Lin She tapped on his keyboard and pulled up the latest government subsidy policies. “In the cities where we’ve opened branches, two local governments have introduced human employment assistance policies. If we hire humans, the enterprise can receive tax reductions and other policy subsidies.”

Gu Huaiwei gave Lin She an appreciative look. His work suggestions were always the most efficient and practical.

“Then we’ll establish Human Reserved Positions in the cities with policy subsidies.”

Doing this killed two birds with one stone.

“If we’re hiring humans without a contract, it’s best to buy extra insurance for them.” Bai Miemie leaned over the edge of the desk, poking at a calculator. “Sister Gu, the individual cost is a bit high when calculated, but with the subsidies added in, we still turn a profit.”

He Xueyi slacked off through the whole process. He had worked hard enough handling the recruitment recently; as for who was actually hired, he didn’t really care.

“As long as we don’t lose money. Humans understand what other humans are thinking better. Let’s set two Human Matchmaker positions for each store first. As for whether to add more, we’ll see based on the first quarter’s revenue.”

Gu Huaiwei made the final call. She remembered when He Jiarui first came to the shop and asked if she was human. Compared to Aliens, some customers felt closer to their own kind. Having humans employed in the shop would be beneficial for business.

On the news, a report played about the Dawn Alliance attacking an Alien Munitions Factory. They made a grand show of it, but due to the gap in weaponry and physical strength, they didn’t cause much damage to the factory. On the television, those people shouted slogans like “Death to Aliens, Return the Pure Land to Humanity.”

Some pioneers of the Dawn Alliance even strapped bombs to themselves, intending to take the Aliens down with them. Compared to the radicalism of the Dawn Alliance, the Aliens handled these people leniently, focusing on criticism and education supplemented by punishment. The most severe sentence was prison; there was no death penalty.

An Alien registering in the shop watched the news on the TV, complaining that humans were being coddled too much these days, to the point where they could climb over the heads of Aliens and cause trouble.

Gu Huaiwei, however, was focused on the latest population report.

The number of humans in this Dimension was actually decreasing rapidly. Aliens laid eggs in human bodies, and what was born were small Aliens. If this trend continued, there would be more and more Aliens and fewer humans. Sooner or later, this planet would be bursting with Aliens, and then they would evacuate, leaving this place a wasteland.

Lu Beijiu liked to visit Gu Huaiwei in the dead of night. And if he came, Chen Liuxiang was sure to follow.

“Miss Gu, when will you fulfill the promise you made to me?” Lu Beijiu discussed the Dawn Alliance’s affairs without hiding anything from Chen Liuxiang.

“I’ve been busy with the branch stores lately. Once all ten stores are officially open, I’ll go with you to the Dawn Alliance to meet the leader you mentioned.”

Gu Huaiwei had no intention of standing Lu Beijiu up.

Lu Beijiu fell silent. The reason he hadn’t used forceful means was that he had been hoping Gu Huaiwei was the returned Gu Changge with amnesia. After all, in Lu Beijiu’s eyes, they had the same name and similar faces. As long as she underwent the baptism, Gu Huaiwei could become the person he longed for.

Chen Liuxiang keenly sensed Lu Beijiu’s emotional fluctuations. As she looked at his face, was she not also hoping for the same thing?

Lin She found out the identity of the person from the livestream.

The person’s name was Yin Zhitao. Her Mental Value was below 10, making her a psychiatric patient. She was currently staying at the Xinqing Mental Hospital, a facility run by Aliens for humans, where she was undergoing electroconvulsive therapy.

He Xueyi stood to the side, his eyes like the early winter sun. He wiped his fingers with a tissue and said indifferently, “Just a lunatic. Shop Manager Miss, you don’t need to take her words to heart.”

Gu Huaiwei lowered her eyes slightly. “No, I want to see her.”
