Chapter 164

After the management of a Dimensional Store concludes, Paradise provides the Operators with appropriate reward settlements.

These rewards are things that the Operators can actually handle.

In her current two Dimensions, Gu Huaiwei had obtained Gold Coins and Magnetic Value-one being a financial boost and the other a boost to her charm, both without side effects.

At the same time, however, an Operator faces the temptations of various Dimensions while managing their Dimensional Store.

For instance, there is the Genetic Modification and Mechanical Arms of the Wasteland World, or the various types of nutritious Worms found in this world.

When Gu Changge cured Gu Huaiwei’s cancer years ago, she left her with a special constitution to protect her on the path ahead.

Other Operators were different.

Paradise acted like a Hands-off Manager, granting Dimension Operators a great deal of authority. Without supervision or sufficient warnings, an Operator could easily be seduced by the powers of a minor Dimension. They might start experimenting with new things, modifying their bodies, or devouring substances their bodies could not withstand.

Over time, these Operators would become less and less human.

Most who took this path would eventually suffer a mental collapse, becoming unable to manage their shops properly. They would end up as failed products discarded by Paradise, left to fend for themselves in the minor Dimensions.

Bai Miemie’s eyes lit up, and she clapped her hands with a hint of delight. “It’s a wild-grown Half-finished Product! Although its nutritional value is mediocre, the fur can be kept for my collection.”

Bai Miemie loved collecting various types of hair and fur.

She particularly enjoyed human hair; shaving it off along with the scalp and meticulously grooming it on a mannequin’s head was her greatest hobby in Paradise.

“Are you confident you can capture it alive?” Seeing their lack of fear, Gu Huaiwei wanted to catch the special “human” outside who could use a Skin Suit. She wanted to tear off his disguise and see the true form beneath.

“Of course I can,” Bai Miemie said, tilting her head and biting her index finger. “But I don’t want Sister Gu to see Miemie being mean. Miemie wants to be a little cutie in Sister Gu’s heart forever.”

Gu Huaiwei immediately spoke against her conscience, “Not at all. You’re cute even when you’re fighting. As long as you can win, those swinging fists of yours will look like the Rainbow Meteor Fist to me.”

“Really?”

Gu Huaiwei nodded firmly. “I never lie to children.”

Lin She, meanwhile, looked at the carcasses of the Black Flying Insects gathered at the door. He stepped forward, wiped a smear of thick green juice from a crack, and, with his back to Gu Huaiwei, extended his long, forked tongue to lightly lick his fingertip.

The taste was slightly spicy and highly toxic.

Lin She plucked a small section of a wing from a Black Flying Insect stuck in the glass gap and asked, “Miss Gu, would you like to try this Worm?”

“Is it nutritious?” These little bugs didn’t look very appetizing.

Lin She crushed the insect wing between his pale fingertips. “The nutritional value is not high.”

“Then forget it,” Gu Huaiwei said, waving her hand.

He Xueyi had just returned from preaching outside. Under the cover of night, his pure white silhouette looked like the only moonlight in this world.

Tonight, he had met with many young men and women, distributing green fruits to them and promoting the concepts of Samsara and Redemption to cleanse their filthy souls.

However, when he returned home late from his side gig and stepped into the courtyard of the Matchmaking Agency, he paused at the sight of the carpet of Black Flying Insect corpses at the door.

The slimy insect blood had pooled together, mixed with a thick green discharge. It was foul and filthy, emitting a powerful, nauseating stench.
“Degenerate Fallen Operator, filthy trash not even fit to be a sacrifice for Paradise…” He Xueyi was a bit of a germaphobe; he did his best to avoid the filth, fearing he might be tainted by even a hint of its unclean aura.

As he approached the main entrance, the swarm of black flying Worms recklessly surrounded him.

A red shadow expanded like a balloon from beneath He Xueyi’s feet, taking on a humanoid shape. It stood back-to-back with his pure white body, then opened a massive, bloody maw, vacuuming all the black flying Worms into its form.

Because the glass doors were covered in the carcasses and blood of the Worms, Gu Huaiwei couldn’t see exactly what was happening outside.

Wanting to prove herself to Gu Huaiwei, Bai Miemie volunteered to go out and catch the intruder.

Lin She remained by Gu Huaiwei’s side in case of any other unexpected trouble.

Bai Miemie rushed out like a little whirlwind.

In her haste, she accidentally slammed her head straight into He Xueyi’s abdomen with a dull thud.

He Xueyi swayed. The red shadow behind him quickly retreated into his body like a bird returning to its nest. His dull golden eyes regained their original luster, looking as if a candle in a cold night had been relit.

“The person has already escaped.”

He Xueyi looked down and lifted Bai Miemie away from the front of him.

Bai Miemie was stunned for a moment, then covered her small face and stomped her feet in frustration. “Huh? That’s so annoying! Sister Gu finally gave me a chance to show off, how could he just run away? I’m going to go catch him!”

He Xueyi lowered his gaze, a faint smile playing on his lips. “The glass on the main door is cracked. That Half-finished Product is quite capable. Are you really sure you can handle him, you little vegetarian sheep?”

Bai Miemie followed his gaze to the door and immediately lost her confidence. She twisted the hem of her clothes, her voice stuttering, “Well… about that… that is to say… don’t you dare look down on me!”

Gu Huaiwei walked out as well.

Bai Miemie stole a glance at Gu Huaiwei, her previously confident aura weakening significantly. “Sister Gu, that person has already escaped.”

“Don’t chase him. Close the shop and go to sleep.”

That person didn’t want Gu Huaiwei to go to the Dawn Alliance, which meant she definitely had to go.

Therefore, on the way to the Dawn Alliance, that person would surely appear again.

She would wait for the situation to develop and then react accordingly. If that person showed up again, Gu Huaiwei would definitely catch him.

Lin She walked behind the lobby’s front desk and pressed a red button underneath it. The flickering red lights in the lobby shut off, plunging the room into darkness.

They each went back to their rooms to rest.

Gu Huaiwei dragged her folding bed into one of the empty Matchmaker’s Cottages. Just as she was making the bed and preparing to sleep, she heard the fluttering of wings again. The nightlight in the Matchmaker’s Cottage suddenly went out, followed immediately by a familiar voice coming from outside the window.

“Miss Gu, are you alright?”

Gu Huaiwei looked up toward the glass window, her pupils shrinking.

Zhou Chuanning was standing in the darkness, wearing his black uniform and holding a damaged cell phone, craning his neck to peer inside.

“The Bureau has been quite busy lately, and we couldn’t spare any more personnel. Wu Ming said you might be in danger here, so he asked me to come check on you first.”

The window of the Matchmaker’s Cottage was positioned quite high.

From Gu Huaiwei’s perspective, it looked as if Zhou Chuanning’s head was just hovering on the windowsill.
