Dimensional Store: Welcome to the Apocalypse Apartment - Chapter 17
After returning to the Real World, Gu Huaiwei bought a large number of sterile eggs.
Not only that, she also bought quail eggs, duck eggs, goose eggs, ostrich eggs-every size, lined up from smallest to largest.
These eggs cost next to nothing.
Lin She loved to eat them, so she fed him.
As long as he obediently worked, without taking leave, skipping work, feigning illness, or resigning.
Because of bankruptcy, the Gu Family was placed on the industry blacklist.
When Gu Huaiwei purchased goods, she had to pay in full upfront.
Rumor in the industry had it that the Gu Family had given up their original antique jade business and was preparing to enter the retail industry.
Retail covers a wide range, including department stores, supermarkets, shopping centers, and more.
Privately, the Jiang Family spread the word in City A:
Anyone in any commercial district who dared to cooperate with Gu Huaiwei would be opposing the Jiang Family!
However, the Jiang Family did not stop suppliers from providing goods to Gu Huaiwei.
They wanted all of Gu Huaiwei’s stock to rot in her warehouse.
Unfortunately for them, the Jiang Family had miscalculated.
Gu Huaiwei did indeed wholesale a lot of small goods, but she had no intention of selling them in City A. Instead, she planned to take them into the Wasteland World, hire people there, and become a supplier in the Other World herself.
The Wasteland World was a giant golden purse, open wide to her.
Such overwhelming wealth-wouldn’t it be rude not to reach out and take it?
In the early stages, Gu Huaiwei tried cooperating with Xiao Youqi, consigning fresh water for sale, earning Gold Coins, and got a taste of success.
In the mid-term, Gu Huaiwei wanted to hire people from the Wasteland World to help her sell a wider variety of goods outside the Oasis Hotel, forming a scaled-up shop and earning higher profits.
With the Gold Coins she earned, Gu Huaiwei planned to purchase Inhibitors, Nutrient Solution, and other items unique to the Wasteland World, bringing them back to the Real World for scientific research.
Antique jade, gold reselling-those were one-off businesses, too dependent on the Other World.
It was better to develop biotechnology, replicating the Wasteland World’s technology tree in the Real World.
That way, with all the intellectual property in her hands, even if the Oasis Hotel disappeared, even if she died, the technology could be passed down for generations.
She had mapped out her path.
She wanted to climb step by step.
She would use the Dimensional Store as a springboard to reach even greater heights.
Gu Huaiwei’s time was limited, so Mu Lingxi helped with her work in the Real World.
The Jiang Family kept up their petty tricks behind the scenes.
Jiang Richen had called Gu Huaiwei twice.
One call came the day after their last meeting.
The other was last night at 11:30 PM, ringing for only three seconds before the other side hung up.
Quite the drama.
Gu Huaiwei hadn’t answered either call.
As luck would have it, the third call came through right at that moment.
Gu Huaiwei answered Jiang Richen’s call.
“Miss Gu, you really are a busy person.” Jiang Richen’s tone carried a hint of impatience, though he tried hard to feign concern. “You’ve disappeared for so many days, I’ve been worried about your safety.
If anything happened to you, I wouldn’t be able to explain to your missing sister.”
Gu Huaiwei skipped unnecessary pleasantries: “You can get straight to the point.”
Jiang Richen’s lips tightened, suppressing his annoyance.
This woman was truly oblivious-she didn’t even acknowledge his feigned concern!
Making him look like a lovesick puppy.
Still, the act had to go on.
He spoke calmly: “There’s something that was meant for you and your sister. Since Sister Changge isn’t here, I’ll give it directly to you.”
“What is it?” When it came to her sister, Gu Huaiwei never slacked.
“You’ll know when you see it.”
“Alright, I’ll come get it.” She agreed without hesitation.
On the other end, Jiang Richen smiled in satisfaction: “Let’s meet at the Blue Whale Restaurant, tonight at 7:30, private room 666.”
“Fine, you arrange it.” Gu Huaiwei knew this was a trap, so she tucked a dagger into her sleeve, ready for the banquet.
The Blue Whale Restaurant was reservation-only for members, no walk-ins allowed.
Gu Huaiwei used to be a regular at this upscale restaurant.
After the bankruptcy, she hadn’t set foot inside again.
“Miss, do you have a reservation?”
Gu Huaiwei was stopped at the entrance.
She arrived at the appointed time, but didn’t see Jiang Richen.
“No, it was reserved by a friend.”
The hostess politely asked, “Would you like me to contact your friend for you?”
“No need, I’ll contact them myself.”
Gu Huaiwei dialed Jiang Richen’s number.
The phone rang for dozens of seconds before it was finally answered.
Upon hearing about Gu Huaiwei’s situation, there was a hint of amusement in Jiang Richen’s voice: “My apologies, I forgot you no longer have a membership card here. I’ll call the front desk right now and have them let you in.”
Jiang Richen never missed a chance to remind her that she had gone bankrupt.
He deliberately left her waiting, making her feel awkward at the entrance.
These petty tricks could not hurt Gu Huaiwei.
She wasn’t that fragile.
The restaurant was dimly lit, with jellyfish chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Following the deep blue corridor, Gu Huaiwei was led by the receptionist into a private room.
Jiang Richen was already waiting there.
Also present was the Second Miss of Jiang Family, Jiang Yingyue.
Gu Huaiwei’s gaze dropped, noticing the slightly oversized imperial green jade bracelet on Jiang Yingyue’s fair wrist.
That was something her sister always wore.
Gu Huaiwei silently looked away.
She sat across from Jiang Richen, resting one hand on the crystal tabletop, and got straight to the point: “President Jiang, what of my sister’s belongings are with you?”
“No rush.” Jiang Richen pushed a glass of red wine toward Gu Huaiwei. “Coming at this hour, you probably haven’t had dinner yet? Let’s eat together. I heard from your sister that you like this restaurant.”
Gu Huaiwei placed her hand over the wine glass. “I don’t drink.”
“How do you know if you don’t try? Your sister could really hold her liquor.” Jiang Richen raised his own glass and drank leisurely.
Seeing that Gu Huaiwei remained unmoved, he spoke with a hint of nostalgia: “Sigh, you and Changge are really quite different.”
Gu Huaiwei patiently kept silent, watching him perform his one-man show.
“Let’s eat first. After this meal, I’ll give you the item.” He was forceful, clapping his hands for the waiter to serve the dishes.
What was placed in front of Gu Huaiwei was her sister’s favorite steak.
Gu Huaiwei ate in silence.
She just wanted to finish quickly, get what she came for, and leave as soon as possible.
Jiang Richen’s mind was not on the meal.
Gu Huaiwei was still young, wearing a collared cotton-linen blouse and a blue skirt, with bangs covering her eyes, making her look just like a recent university graduate-easy to bully at first glance.
Jiang Richen spoke with a hint of condescension: “Changge was a business powerhouse, but this path doesn’t suit you.
I heard you recently stocked up on a bunch of useless trinkets. The idea is good, but you also need to consider reality.
Now, I doubt any business district would dare to cooperate with you.”
He was being overly preachy.
Gu Huaiwei cut a piece of steak, dipped it in ketchup, lowered her lashes, and replied calmly, “This is my own business. You don’t need to worry about it.”
To Jiang Richen, Gu Huaiwei was like a stone in a latrine-stubborn and unpleasant.
Still, he maintained his composure and tried to persuade her: “As your senior, I can’t bear to see you lose too much money.
How about this: come to the Jiang Family, and I’ll make the decision to let you manage the business district in the east of the city.”
“Brother!” Jiang Yingyue protested, dissatisfied, feeling that Jiang Richen was being far too generous.
Jiang Richen shot Jiang Yingyue a look, signaling her to calm down.
He hid his intentions behind a gentle tone, changing his form of address and continuing with ill intent: “Huaiwei, Mom and Dad are quite fond of you. If you’re willing, you could take the Jiang surname and become the Jiang Family’s adopted daughter.
Or, you could take over your sister’s engagement…”
Jiang Richen laid out his plans, growing more pleased as he spoke.
This pleasure of arranging others’ fates and bestowing favors from a high position-no matter how many times, he always enjoyed it.
Jiang Yingyue cupped her face, a half-eaten strawberry cake in front of her, her tone dripping with malice: “When Changge was around, you were practically invisible. Congratulations, now you can finally take her place.”
These siblings really were a perfect double act.
Gu Huaiwei had lost her appetite.
She put down her knife and fork, wiped the ketchup from the corner of her mouth with a wet napkin.
Then, she brushed aside her bangs and looked at them with a sharp, aggressive gaze, the air thick with tension.
