“Jiang Yingyue, every word you say revolves around Sister Changge. When my sister was around, she must have put quite a bit of pressure on you, didn’t she?

You tried to curry favor with my sister before, wanted to be her sworn sister, but when that didn’t work out, your self-esteem shattered, and you started imitating her in every way. Isn’t that exhausting?

How pitiful. I hope my sister didn’t become a shadow over your adolescence.”

After the Gu Family went bankrupt, Jiang Yingyue spent a fortune buying all of Gu Changge’s old personal belongings.

From gold and jewelry to dresses that had barely been worn.

She treated Gu Changge’s second-hand items like treasures.

“You!” Jiang Yingyue slammed the table, standing up in shame and anger, spilling her red wine.

Gu Huaiwei pressed down on the trembling table: “Calm down, if you break the glass, you’ll have to pay for it.”

Jiang Yingyue blurted out, “What is Gu Changge to me! Why would I ever care about her?

Your Gu Family is already bankrupt, your sister is said to be missing, but for all we know, she abandoned you and ran off to hide from her debts.

Someone so useless is not someone I’d ever care about!”

Gu Huaiwei laughed carelessly: “Are you throwing a tantrum?

If my sister were here, maybe she’d look at you with a tolerant smile, but I won’t do that.

If I hear you insult my sister again, I’ll make you go viral online.”

With that, Gu Huaiwei took out a recording device she’d prepared in advance.

The atmosphere instantly grew tense.

“Alright, alright, ladies, let’s calm down.” Jiang Richen, concerned about the family’s reputation, frowned, wanting to put an end to this farce.

Gu Huaiwei leaned back in her chair, arms crossed: “I’m full. Can I have what you promised me now?”

Jiang Richen wanted to say something more.

Gu Huaiwei cut him off directly: “Save your pointless lectures. Your little tricks don’t work on me.

Calling me late at night-I only see that as harassment.

Pretending to care about my sister in front of me? Why not use your connections to actually look for her?

If you want me to come to the Jiang Family, show some real sincerity. A few petty favors won’t move me.

And please, stop trying to use your looks to win me over.

You were once my sister’s fiancé, so please act accordingly.

I’m really not interested in your type.

Lastly, I don’t like drinking, and I don’t like tomato-flavored steak. If you want to invite me to dinner again, remember to order their crispy crab cakes.”

She had made herself perfectly clear.

Tearing off his mask of hypocrisy, Jiang Richen’s face turned cold: “Being so blunt, Second Miss Gu, are you underestimating the Jiang Family’s influence in City A?”

Gu Huaiwei rested her face on one hand, the teardrop mole at the corner of her eye red as blood. Her eyes, like those of a hunting feline in the night, were filled with danger and wildness. She stared straight at Jiang Richen, making his breathing grow heavier.

Then, she let out a soft laugh: “It’s you who’s underestimating me.”

After saying this, Gu Huaiwei felt there was no point in dragging things out. Seeing their guarded expressions and not bothering to argue further, she shrugged, stood up, and prepared to leave.

Jiang Richen raised his hand: “Wait, take this with you.”

Gu Huaiwei stopped in her tracks.

Jiang Richen placed a silver safe that had been by his feet onto the table.

He entered the password and opened it. Inside was a large group photo taken when Gu Changge and Jiang Richen were engaged, with both families present.

One photo, stored in such a big safe.

Gu Huaiwei had thought it would be something valuable.

Jiang Richen explained: “The photo we took before has been developed. You should keep a copy.”
Gu Huaiwei saw her sister’s happy smile in the photo and remembered that day when both families went to take pictures together, her sister and she dreaming about the future…

Originally, she hadn’t disliked the Jiang Family so much.

It was their subsequent actions that completely ruined Gu Huaiwei’s goodwill.

Those who betray another’s sincerity should swallow ten thousand needles.

Gu Huaiwei reached out to take the photo.

Jiang Richen suddenly grabbed her wrist and said in a low voice, “My feelings for your sister are real. You have to believe me, I truly want to help you.”

“Oh, really.” Gu Huaiwei looked into his eyes, which seemed to show deep affection even to a dog, but felt nothing but cold indifference inside.

Flowery words will never compare to real actions.

She hadn’t seen a trace of love for her sister in Jiang Richen.

All she saw was endless calculation.

Gu Huaiwei broke free from his grip, looked at him, and said seriously, word by word, “Let me join the company you acquired before, and I’ll believe you’re sincere.”

Jiang Richen was speechless.

“Or, return those antique vases your Jiang Family took from the Gu Family. That would also show your sincerity.”

Jiang Richen found Gu Huaiwei difficult to deal with.

“Or, have your Jiang Family publicly acknowledge the previous engagement with my sister in the media, and declare you’re willing to wait for her return.”

Jiang Richen fell completely silent.

Gu Huaiwei had never intended to wait for his answer.

“I’ll keep the photo. If there’s anything else, I’ll contact you. Bye.”

As they watched Gu Huaiwei’s departing figure, the Jiang siblings looked at each other.

The feast before them had lost all flavor.

Jiang Yingyue poked at the now-melted cream cake with a sour expression, feeling something indescribable inside. “You really can’t judge a book by its cover. Gu Huaiwei is sharp as a tack-compared to her sister, she’s much more of a thorn…”

“She’s too guarded against me. Let Third Brother handle it.” Jiang Richen hung his head, unable to shake the image of Gu Huaiwei’s unique eyes from his mind.

After leaving the Blue Whale Hotel, Gu Huaiwei called Mu Lingxi and told her to keep the warehouse locked for the time being and not let anyone go near it.

She was worried that if the Jiang Family couldn’t get what they wanted through soft means, they’d resort to hard ones.

She had to be cautious.

As for that family photo, Gu Huaiwei cut out the part with herself and her sister, sealed it with a laminator, and tossed the rest into the trash.

Who wants a family photo with them?

She and her sister were the only real family.

The short weekend ended, and Gu Huaiwei bought several sets of new clothes to bring to the Oasis Hotel.

Not just for herself, but also some men’s styles.

Lin She lived and ate at the shop every day. Besides his own black trench coat, he only wore the hideous hotel uniform.

Maybe he thought the uniform was ugly too, because after the first few days, he wore his own clothes most of the time.

But that black trench coat was far too somber.

Wearing it, he looked less like a hotel employee and more like someone working at a funeral home.

Gu Huaiwei had put up with it for several weeks. Now that she had a little extra money, she decided to get him some new clothes to improve the hotel’s image.

Every time she came back, she was loaded down with bags.

This time, besides water and oxygen tanks, Gu Huaiwei also brought some compressed biscuits, dried fruit, bandages, antibiotics…

Lin She appeared right on time at the staff entrance to help her unload.

Gu Huaiwei used a trolley to move a wooden crate filled with all kinds of eggs. As Lin She walked over, she smiled and said, “Come on, guess what good stuff I brought you this time?”
