Gu Huaiwei looked up. “I think… it’s the Gold Coin that’s causing all the trouble.”

In this world, someone was watching her, trying to buy back items from the Other World at a high price.

When she returned to the apartment, Gu Huaiwei saw that Mu Lingxi had already replaced the curtains with heavy blackout fabric.

Silvery moonlight spilled onto the windowsill, making the whole room feel especially quiet.

“Huaiwei, these things are from Changge’s company.” Mu Lingxi stood to the side, pointing at several suitcases piled in the corner. “The bankruptcy administrator couldn’t reach you by phone, so he contacted me instead.

He said it’s all just some worthless trinkets inside.

I thought, since they’re related to Changge, it’s better to keep them, so I picked them up for you.”

A warm feeling rose in Gu Huaiwei’s heart. She glanced gratefully at Mu Lingxi.

Even a single sheet of paper related to her sister was important to Gu Huaiwei.

It was still early. After washing up, Gu Huaiwei opened one of the suitcases and began sorting through the scattered documents inside.

Company transaction contracts, meeting sign-in sheets, scrap paper… Gu Huaiwei’s fingers flipped through the pages, when suddenly, her movements stopped.

A thin medical record came into view. Gu Huaiwei froze for a moment, then instinctively opened it.

It was Gu Huaiwei’s own medical record.

Dense medical terminology filled the pages, making her heart sink.

She had always thought she was just frail and sickly.

She had never imagined that she had once been diagnosed with bone cancer.

Gu Huaiwei stared blankly at the words on the medical record.

Fragments of past memories pieced themselves together, and her sister’s slightly weary face appeared before her eyes.

So, her sister had always hidden Gu Huaiwei’s illness, keeping all her worries buried deep inside.

She always smiled and said to her, “Don’t worry, I have a way.”

What way?

What way could possibly reverse cancer?

Gu Huaiwei clutched the medical record tightly, terrifying thoughts churning in her mind.

That huge sum in her sister’s private account…

Their sudden wealth…

The Scarred Woman said she had a remarkable constitution…

Her suddenly sharp hearing and vision, her faster-than-average reflexes, her innate talent when learning to use a dagger…

Her sister, weeping blood in her dreams, warning her…

Was it all for her?

Her sister’s disappearance, her sister risking everything to bring a huge sum into the Real World, even somehow curing her… The more she thought about it, the more frightening it became.

Gu Huaiwei was past the age of believing in fairy tales.

There is no such thing as a free lunch in this world.

Everything you gain comes at a price.

Her sister’s concealment and sacrifices were like a double-edged sword-one side love and protection, the other a well-intentioned lie. The two sides pulled at her, tearing her heart apart.

“Huaiwei, are you alright?” Mu Lingxi noticed her odd expression, concern filling her voice.

Gu Huaiwei let out a shaky breath, forced a smile, and shook her head. “I’m fine.”

She gently closed the medical record and put it back in the suitcase, as if it were just an old book.

“Huaiwei…” Mu Lingxi spoke softly, a hint of hesitation in her voice. “But you look really sad.”

Gu Huaiwei pressed her lips together, pain flashing in her eyes. Hugging her knees, she said in a low voice, “I just… suddenly really miss my sister.” She didn’t want Mu Lingxi to worry along with her, didn’t want her sadness to spread.

She had to hold herself together.

Her sister was only missing, not dead. She needed to calm down, so she could analyze her next steps with a clear mind.

Mu Lingxi felt a pang in her heart. She slowly reached out, gently wrapped her arm around Gu Huaiwei’s shoulders, letting Gu Huaiwei lean on her, and said softly, “I’ll always be by your side. You’ll work hard over there, I’ll work hard here, and together, we’ll bring Changge back.”
No one noticed that outside the window, a pair of eyes was watching them coldly through the gap in the curtains, observing their every move.

The person hidden in the shadows of the night sent a text message.

“The medical record book has been successfully delivered to Gu Huaiwei.”

Jiang Family.

Jiang Richen had originally planned to use Gu Changge’s emotional connection to control Gu Huaiwei, but the plan fell through.

Jiang Xingyi also failed to win her over with his hero-saving-the-beauty act.

Now, Gu Huaiwei had completely escaped the Jiang Family’s control.

She would always disappear without a trace at some moment, forcing the Jiang Family to expend massive manpower and resources, yet still unable to find her whereabouts.

Then, at another moment, she would suddenly reappear.

Is she playing games with us?

Jiang Yingyue was wearing Gu Changge’s purple floral goddess dress, the hem trailing softly on the ground like wisteria.

From her outfit to her mannerisms, she deliberately imitated Gu Changge, as if by doing so she could replace that eye-catching charisma.

Gu Changge was the shadow Jiang Yingyue could never shake off in her heart.

When Gu Changge was around, she was a self-made legend, a female entrepreneur who appeared out of nowhere, admired and respected by all.

But Jiang Yingyue herself was just a pampered heiress relying on her family’s protection, causing trouble in her own company, forever unable to escape being seen as an appendage of the family.

Now that Gu Changge was missing and the Jiang Family had seized the Gu Family’s company, Jiang Yingyue finally had her chance to be in the spotlight. It was time for everyone to witness her brilliance.

She looked coldly at her brother and younger brother, who had returned in defeat, full of disdain in her heart.

They couldn’t even play the emotional card right.

They couldn’t bring back Gu Huaiwei, just a mere girl. These two men were truly useless.

Rather than relying on them, she might as well take matters into her own hands.

Jiang Yingyue had long put behind her the embarrassment of being rendered speechless by Gu Huaiwei at the Blue Whale Restaurant last time.

She stroked the imperial green jade bracelet on her wrist, vowing that this time she would coax Gu Huaiwei back to the Jiang Family and make her parents see her in a new light.

When Gu Huaiwei drove Mu Lingxi to school, she saw Jiang Yingyue standing at the school gate, looking like a downgraded version of Gu Changge. Her temple couldn’t help but twitch.

Jiang Yingyue had her bodyguards block the car. She walked up to the window: “Gu Huaiwei, don’t pretend you didn’t see me.”

“Unless you have good news for me,” Gu Huaiwei pressed down the window and spoke coldly, “don’t waste my time.”

“Your sister previously signed up for the charity auction. She’s missing now, but she still holds the title of Jiang Family’s fiancée. So, you have to accompany my brother to attend.”

“No money, bankrupt, can’t do charity at all,” Gu Huaiwei replied blandly.

She knew well that the little money left in her account had to be saved for emergencies, let alone spend a fortune at an auction.

Besides, Gold Coin couldn’t be traded at the moment. Before the public trial, she had to be careful with every cent.

“Your sister promised the organizers that she would sell an antique as a seller and also participate in the auction as a buyer.”

“But my sister is missing now, what can I do?” Gu Huaiwei spread her hands helplessly.

“Can’t you attend in her place?” Jiang Yingyue pressed on, “Don’t you care about your reputation? Are you just going to quit and let your sister be called a fraud?”

“Can’t afford it,” Gu Huaiwei raised her eyebrows and retorted with a hint of mockery, “Or, why don’t you donate some to me?”
