“Let me think, the recycling price is a bit lower than the market price. We finally settled on 112,000. Will you sell?”

The startup capital was about to be in hand. Gu Huaiwei took a fierce bite of her rice ball. “Sell!”

The universal currency in this world is the Gold Coin.

If a circulating currency is backed, it means this world has gold mines.

Five Gold Coins could be sold for 100,000.

What about more Gold Coins?

She wanted them.

She wanted them.

Gu Huaiwei tossed the plastic bag into the trash can and stared outside.

A Radiation Storm was about to arrive, and the outside would turn pitch black.

Everyone who walked into the storm would be lost.

Only the Oasis Hotel where Gu Huaiwei stayed had a sign still glowing green.

The world outside was dangerous.

In the past, her sister would only bring goods from the Other World home, and Gu Huaiwei would contact clients to sell them.

Her sister didn’t actually bring much, but it was enough for the two sisters to make a fortune in City A.

If she walked out of the hotel?

Could she negotiate bigger deals?

This thought, like a seed, was deeply buried in Gu Huaiwei’s heart, rooting downward, waiting for the moment to sprout.

At night, Gu Huaiwei prepared to boil two eggs for a midnight snack.

She heard arguing upstairs.

Gu Huaiwei lived on the first floor; the two guests upstairs were on the third floor, quite far away, but Gu Huaiwei keenly caught their conversation.

She quietly ran to eavesdrop at the corner.

“Is the tea good? Life here is too comfortable. Are you planning to retire here?” Qian Duoduo’s tone was openly mocking.

Xiao Youqi’s voice was lower, suppressing his anger. “It’s not that I don’t want to act, but this hotel is too strange.

Last night, that woman wasn’t here.

I wanted to take the chance to check out other rooms in the hotel, but Lin She, the green-eyed man, suddenly appeared behind me. He didn’t say a word, just stared straight at me.

That’s the kind of gaze only found in the dark world-very dangerous.”

Thinking of last night’s encounter, Xiao Youqi felt a chill.

He had killed many people and was the nightmare of many.

But last night, being stared at from behind by those eerie green eyes, he felt a coldness crawl densely from his tailbone to his brain.

Cold, green vertical pupils contracted into a ring, surrounded by whites, utterly emotionless, not at all like human eyes.

“Are you scared?” Qian Duoduo didn’t buy it at all.

Qian Duoduo’s voice shed its innocent liveliness, sounding more like a middle-aged woman.

“Neither the man nor the woman here wears a Protective Suit. They’re not afraid of radiation. You should know what that means, right?

Such rare genes-if we capture them alive and sell them to the Black Spiral Research Institute, maybe we’ll get tickets to the Upper District.”

That was exactly why Qian Duoduo had come.

This hotel had many good things-air, fresh water, and the endless supply of shampoo and body wash in the bathroom-all were expensive luxuries in the Ninth District.

But compared to these, what she coveted most was the staff’s constitution here.

No Protective Suit, yet they could be exposed to the radiation and sandstorms.

Their skin didn’t rot.

No need for regular Inhibitor injections.

…

She and Xiao Youqi were Wasteland Wanderers. Betrayal, profit, and blood ran in the bones of wanderers.

Discovering such a unique constitution and not selling it to the Black Spiral Research Institute for benefits would be a disgrace to their identity as Wasteland Wanderers!

Xiao Youqi, however, shook his head worriedly. “Of course I know, but if we lose our lives, those tickets to the Upper District won’t do us any good.”

At first, he wanted to rob this hotel.

Later, he became interested in the female clerk’s constitution and wanted to gather information to sell to the research institute.

But now, with Lin She’s appearance, he sensed an unknown danger. He felt that honestly doing business with Gu Huaiwei wasn’t a bad choice.

If you can make money peacefully, why resort to violence?

He felt it wasn’t that the blood of a wanderer in his bones had cooled, but that after the last failed mission, he had become more mature and steady.
“If you chicken out, I’ll just do it myself.” Qian Duoduo was willing to take the risk for a ticket to the Upper District.

“Whatever.” Xiao Youqi waved his hand. “If you die, I’ll take care of your body, burn incense for you on holidays, as long as you leave your inheritance to me.”

“Pah! If I die, I’ll have all my Gold Coins made into a golden coffin, and try to take it with me to the Underworld. I’m not leaving anything for you.” Qian Duoduo snorted a few times and returned to her room.

The two parted on bad terms.

Gu Huaiwei found it all rather thrilling.

These two were actually plotting to sell her off.

The robot in the hotel would protect her safety, so she wasn’t worried at all.

However, because of their scheming, now was not a good time for Gu Huaiwei to leave the hotel and expand her business.

Her great enterprise had been obstructed.

Gu Huaiwei decided to eat two eggs to calm her nerves.

She tiptoed back to the front desk, ready to boil the eggs she had left in the lunchbox.

But she found the lunchbox empty.

“Huh? Where are my eggs?”

“Did the two raw eggs I just left here grow legs and run away?”

Gu Huaiwei picked up the lunchbox and looked it over from every angle.

There were no holes.

She searched around the counter again.

Still nothing.

Finally, in the trash can, she saw two damp, flattened, intact eggshells.

Who was it?

Who ate her eggs while she was eavesdropping?

Gu Huaiwei was full of resentment, her gaze locking onto the only possible culprit in the lobby.

“Lin She, did you eat the eggs I left here?”

Lin She was usually very quiet. He would sit in the corner of the lobby, watching the endless Radiation Storm outside the door with a gloomy look.

Occasionally, he would use his laptop to record things in a script Gu Huaiwei couldn’t understand.

If there was anything that needed doing in the hotel, as long as Gu Huaiwei asked, he would always complete it well.

He was clearly a well-behaved tool man.

How did he suddenly grow a rebellious streak?

Just now, all of Gu Huaiwei’s attention had been focused on eavesdropping.

She hadn’t heard Lin She eating eggs at all.

Besides, those two eggs were raw.

If he wanted to eat them, he’d have to boil them in the kettle first.

The kettle would make a bubbling sound when boiling things.

Gu Huaiwei hadn’t heard a thing.

It didn’t make sense.

Lin She was still wearing his mask, and seemed to have been sitting there the whole time, never moving.

“I didn’t eat your eggs.” He looked perfectly calm, not the least bit guilty, his voice steady as he lied in the most objective tone. “Maybe someone else ate them.”

“…”

Who else could there be in this hotel!

Gu Huaiwei had no evidence, so she could only swallow her words along with her rumbling stomach.

Lin She closed his laptop, stood up, picked up the red umbrella leaning against the sofa with his pale hand, and, without moving his black lips much, spoke: “I won’t be at the hotel tonight. Be careful.”

Gu Huaiwei looked up at him in surprise. “Going out now? There’s a storm outside.”

“Mm.”

He pushed open the hotel’s glass door, opened an umbrella redder than blood, and walked alone into the endless darkness of the Radiation Storm.

In just an instant, the Radiation Storm swallowed his figure.

Gu Huaiwei wanted to chase after him and ask where he was going, but as soon as she reached the door, the fierce wind and sand made it hard to breathe.

Lin She was already nowhere to be seen.

She looked up at the floor above, then swept her gaze to the front door, feeling rather troubled, and muttered under her breath.

“Neither of them are easy to deal with.”

In this hotel, the most normal one was probably Gu Huaiwei herself.

She closed the door, locked it right at closing time.

Then, she went to rummage through the trash can.

She picked apart the intact eggshells.

The eggshells seemed to have been corroded by something, becoming soft.

The egg liquid inside had flowed out through the cracks.

These two eggs had been eaten raw.
