Feed Me, Husband - chapter 11
Chapter 11
Lu Yichen had come from a mainstream publishing house, one that had published many well-known works. Gu Xiaonuan sat outside waiting; the company she worked for was only moderately successful. If this company were to negotiate with Lu Yichen… Sister Liu probably wouldn’t stand a chance.
Someone tapped lightly on the glass door. Gu Xiaonuan turned her head to look. A tall, beautiful woman stood outside. When she noticed Gu Xiaonuan looking over, she pointed at her with a finger.
Gu Xiaonuan raised her eyebrows and got up to walk over.
“Manager Ji is looking for you. Come with me.”
When the woman saw Gu Xiaonuan, she first gave her a bold once-over from head to toe, her gaze rather brazen. After sizing her up, the corners of her mouth lifted slightly. “Miss Gu?”
Gu Xiaonuan sighed and stood up, glancing back into the publishing house. Lu Yichen would still need some time to finish his meeting, and besides, this was the Old Man’s turf.
Fellow Kin didn’t yet have the guts to cause trouble on Ji Xiangnan’s territory, especially not targeting her.
Inside the elevator, Gu Xiaonuan tilted her head up slightly to look. She was only about 1.65 meters tall, and the woman beside her was half a head taller.
Actually, she looked quite a good match standing next to Ji Xiangnan.
Her hair was tied into a perfectly neat bun at the back, not a single strand out of place.
Gu Xiaonuan’s gaze swept over the woman’s neck, catching a glimpse of two faint red marks peeking out from under her collar.
The Old Man had changed partners again.
The entire 55th floor belonged to Ji Xiangnan’s company. As a 300-year-old Vampire, he had accumulated considerable wealth and social status in the human world.
Gu Xiaonuan followed behind the tall woman to the innermost office.
“Manager Ji only has fifteen minutes. Go on in.”
Gu Xiaonuan didn’t say much and pushed the door open to enter. The door closed behind her, and Ji Xiangnan’s voice came from inside, “Little one, you’re here.”
His voice was not as cold as usual. Hearing it, the woman outside could barely contain herself. Little one… so this was Ji Xiangnan’s little one.
She held her documents, quickly walking away in her high heels.
In the stairwell, the woman huddled there, nearly crumpling the documents in her hands. She stifled her sobs, her mind replaying Ji Xiangnan’s affectionate “little one.”
How could a Shorty like that deserve Ji Xiangnan’s favor!
“Miss, are you alright?”
A gentle, warm voice sounded. A handsome hand offered her a tissue. “Did something difficult happen? Why are you crying like this?”
The woman was stunned for a moment, then thanked him and took the tissue.
The man didn’t leave. Instead, he bent down and sat beside her. The brim of his baseball cap hid most of his features, revealing only a well-shaped chin and slightly upturned thin lips.
“If you’re willing, why not tell a stranger like me what happened?”
In the stairwell, the woman who had just been crying now stood up, thanked him several times, and pushed the door open to leave.
The man sitting there leaned against the wall, listening to the cheerful click of her high heels. He pressed down on the brim of his cap, the corners of his lips lifting higher. “You’re welcome.”
When Gu Xiaonuan returned, Lu Yichen seemed not to have finished his meeting yet. She sat quietly outside, pondering what Ji Xiangnan had just said to her.
“With your abilities, protecting him is barely enough.”
Ji Xiangnan sat in his chair, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk. He looked refined on the surface, but there was an unintentional coldness and aggression unique to the Blood Clan.
“It is a bit much for me, after all, I’m not even fifty yet.”
Gu Xiaonuan sprawled carelessly in the chair opposite him. “But didn’t you also say you can’t get involved in this?”
“Xiaonuan, when you were escaping, was jumping out the window your only option?”
Gu Xiaonuan, sitting there, was taken aback. Ji Xiangnan’s gaze was as cold as winter. “Do you know how many humans saw that scene? Do you know how much effort I have to spend erasing those memories?”
“How can you blame me! They were the ones chasing after me! I knew I couldn’t win, so what else was I supposed to do if not run?”
“Jumping out the window was your only choice? Is that what I taught you?”
Ji Xiangnan’s gaze swept over, and Gu Xiaonuan shrank back. “That was… unexpected.”
“…If I don’t intervene, I’m afraid it won’t be long before you’re the headline on the TV news.”
Gu Xiaonuan sat there in silence. The Blood Clan hid among human society, learning every move and gesture, all just to hunt their prey more effectively.
For the Vampire Clan, being under fifty years old was like being a little kid who could be bullied at will.
Yet it was this very child who did something even Ji Xiangnan dared not do-forming a Blood Contract with the same human.
In Ji Xiangnan’s eyes, to put it in human terms, it was like a kindergartener coming home and announcing, “I’m married.”
“Why don’t you come to my place?” Ji Xiangnan sighed softly. “I never interfered with you before. You could do whatever you wanted, but now things are different.”
Gu Xiaonuan was stunned. She was about to refuse, but forced herself to hold back.
Ji Xiangnan looked at her with a hint of mockery in his eyes. “On your own, you can’t even protect your own food. Think it over.”
Sitting there waiting, Gu Xiaonuan furrowed her brows. The Old Man had never cared about her before; she really could do whatever she wanted. But now that he had taken the initiative to speak, it meant…
Those looking for trouble weren’t just playing around anymore.
Ji Xiangnan’s words echoed in Gu Xiaonuan’s mind again: “Putting everything else aside, his blood is top-tier among humans. If he weren’t your food, I’d fight you for him myself.”
Gu Xiaonuan’s beautiful features nearly scrunched up together. Fight… If anyone over a hundred years old came, all she could do was watch Lu Yichen get taken away.
Thinking of the Blood Contract between them, Gu Xiaonuan’s gaze dropped to the floor.
She didn’t want to be trapped forever in a single contract.
Footsteps approached. Gu Xiaonuan looked up to see Lu Yichen walking out with a spring in his step, accompanied by a well-known editor from the publishing world.
The two chatted happily. Lu Yichen had the air of a young man, and his smile carried a hint of shyness.
“Alright, it’s settled then. I’ll be waiting for your new book.”
“Okay, and thank you for looking after me.”
“You’re too modest. With your talent, it’s only right to pay more attention.”
“Then I’ll be off. I’ll discuss the material for the new book with you later.”
“Alright, alright, we can talk anytime.”
The editor personally saw Lu Yichen out. It looked like his next book would be with this publisher. Gu Xiaonuan smiled helplessly-Sister Liu really didn’t stand a chance.
“You’ve been waiting for me a long time, haven’t you?” Lu Yichen walked over, his dark eyes full of gentleness. He felt extremely comfortable, like a soft, fluffy cloud.
“No, let’s go.”
Gu Xiaonuan stood up, and the two of them entered the elevator together, chatting casually. The elevator stopped at a certain floor.
A dozen or so people entered, laughing and talking, and the elevator was instantly full.
Just like when they arrived, Lu Yichen stood facing Gu Xiaonuan, shielding her from the others. Gu Xiaonuan tilted her head slightly-why was he blushing again?
“Hey, I think I got scratched by something. I’m bleeding.”
“Let me see. It’s nothing, just a small cut.”
“Still, you should be careful…”
For humans, this was nothing more than a tiny wound, but for Gu Xiaonuan, even the faintest scent of blood was a deep stimulus to her brain.
She lowered her head awkwardly, her fangs threatening to emerge uncontrollably.
Long, slender fingers found the fangs she was trying to hide and, with a gentle force, pushed them up.
With nowhere to hide, her fangs directly cut into his fingertip, and his blood flowed into her mouth.
The people in the elevator were still chatting and laughing, but Gu Xiaonuan seemed unable to hear them. All she could see was the man shielding her, his handsome face slightly flushed beneath his baseball cap.
In those clear eyes, it seemed as if a vortex was swirling. His finger pressed insistently into her mouth, even holding down her tongue.
Gulp.
Hearing her swallow, Lu Yichen’s lips curled into a smile. His injured, bleeding finger caressed the inside of her mouth, fascinated by the deepening red in her eyes.
A few more people entered the elevator. Lu Yichen’s body pressed closer, and he gently withdrew his finger from her mouth.
Breathing lightly, he leaned against Gu Xiaonuan’s shoulder.
Her cold hand once again rested on his waist, and Lu Yichen’s body trembled slightly.
“Are you alright?”
Her voice sounded in his ear, and the flush on Lu Yichen’s cheeks deepened.
How could he possibly be alright… He felt so good he could die.
