Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 20
The next day, Gu Xiaonuan once again received a gentle kiss. As she was about to open the door and leave, Lu Yichen spoke, “The dinner we originally scheduled for the weekend has been rescheduled. It’s tonight.”
“Tonight?”
Gu Xiaonuan couldn’t help but turn around. She quickly ran through her to-do list in her mind-she had planned to meet with the writer liaison today.
“Yes, I know it’s a sudden change. If you don’t have time to accompany me, it’s fine. I’ll let them know and we can reschedule.”
“No need, I’ll go with you,” Gu Xiaonuan replied quickly. Between her work and Lu Yichen, Gu Xiaonuan now knew where she stood.
She had already said it herself: as long as he asked, she would do whatever she could.
“Alright.”
Lu Yichen smiled, pulled her over, and kissed her on the forehead. “Eight o’clock tonight, I’ll wait for you at home.” Gu Xiaonuan was stunned for a moment, still not used to the forehead kiss before leaving. Lu Yichen smiled, gently pushed her out the door, and closed it behind her.
The phone placed not far away vibrated a few times. With a smile on his lips, the man walked over and picked it up.
“Yichen, why the sudden change of plans? Is there something urgent?”
The editor who had gone out with him that day sent a message. Lu Yichen tapped his fingers lightly a few times.
“I was struck by inspiration. The outline for the new book is already done.”
Soon, a reply came back quickly.
“Great, then let’s discuss it in detail when we meet tonight. Looking forward to your story.”
Lu Yichen replied with a simple “okay” and ignored his phone after that. He walked back to his computer, where the screen was lit up with a live video feed.
The video showed the magazine office where Gu Xiaonuan worked, and on the screen was her workstation.
Soon, Gu Xiaonuan appeared on the screen, and Lu Yichen’s lips curled up.
Gu Xiaonuan was looking at her screen, clearly not video chatting with Lu Yichen. She was busy with her own work, completely unaware that she was being watched.
Lu Yichen propped his chin with one hand, while the other gently touched the screen, as if he could really touch Gu Xiaonuan.
His fingertips traced the fair skin she exposed, murmuring softly, “As expected, fair skin looks good in anything.”
His dark eyes narrowed slightly. “I really want to leave a mark on it.”
In the video, Gu Xiaonuan was focused on her work, sometimes frowning, sometimes smiling faintly.
Her face was cute and friendly when dealing with colleagues, but Lu Yichen knew it was all an act.
Lu Yichen sat there, his dark eyes fixed on Gu Xiaonuan on the screen, ignoring the constant stream of notifications.
In his world, it seemed there was only Gu Xiaonuan.
His beautiful fingertips lingered, caressing Gu Xiaonuan in the video over and over. After a long while, his handsome face leaned in, and his thin lips gently pressed against the lips of Gu Xiaonuan, who suddenly moved close to the camera.
Messages kept popping up, but Lu Yichen’s gaze was cold, clearly displeased by the interruption.
When Gu Xiaonuan got up and left in the video, Lu Yichen finally opened the messages and glanced at them.
The day passed like this. Other than watching Gu Xiaonuan, Lu Yichen did almost nothing else. Only when Gu Xiaonuan got up to leave work did he finally turn off the computer screen.
Time ticked by. Lu Yichen leaned back slightly in his wide chair, watching the little red dot on his phone move closer and closer.
The door was pushed open.
Lu Yichen’s lips curled-she was back.
He stood up from his chair, tall and slender, and opened the door. Outside, Gu Xiaonuan happened to pass by him. “You’re back.”
Lu Yichen said with a gentle smile. Gu Xiaonuan replied with a soft “mm,” checked the time, and said, “Wait for me a moment, I’ll go freshen up a bit.”
“Okay.”
Lu Yichen stood at the doorway with a smile. Gu Xiaonuan looked at the clothes he was wearing-plain jeans and a white T-shirt. With his clean, slightly shy features, he looked as if he had just stepped out of a university campus.
“Go change into something a bit more formal. The person you’re having dinner with is a very famous editor in this circle.”
Lu Yichen leaned against the door frame and chuckled softly, “I’m fine like this.”
Gu Xiaonuan raised her eyebrows slightly. It took a bit of confidence to say that, but Lu Yichen certainly had that qualification. Her eyes swept over his neck. Just below the white T-shirt, two faint bruises were appearing.
She really shouldn’t have bitten the same spot over and over, but that area of the neck was indeed perfect for the Vampire Clan to feed.
The tissue there was soft and tender, without bones in the way. With just a little force, she could taste the blood beneath.
Gu Xiaonuan couldn’t help but swallow, then gave her own face a hard slap.
“Alright, let’s go.”
Lu Yichen glanced at her clothes, amusement flickering in his eyes. It was obvious she didn’t want to sit at the table with him.
“Are you planning to wait outside for me?”
Lu Yichen’s fingers tugged at the ruffle by her sleeve. “You’re not going with me?”
“It’s not convenient. I’ll wait for you outside.” Gu Xiaonuan looked at his hand, which hadn’t let go, raising her eyebrows slightly. Was he trying to…
A cold little hand reached over and wrapped around his warm one.
Lu Yichen froze, staring at Gu Xiaonuan in a daze.
“Didn’t you want to hold hands?” Gu Xiaonuan saw his startled expression-had she misunderstood?
Lu Yichen came back to his senses and instantly tightened his grip on her fingers, letting out a low “Mm.” Gu Xiaonuan took his hand and walked out directly, her face showing no emotion.
Looking at her chilly little face, Lu Yichen’s heartbeat began to speed up.
He couldn’t help but use his other hand to cover his own face, peeking at their entwined hands through his fingers.
The little Vampire he wanted to tie to his side was even more clueless about emotions than a blank sheet of paper, but once she acted, she was both blunt and direct.
Lu Yichen’s handsome face grew even redder. This kind of Gu Xiaonuan-he liked her so much.
In the elevator, Gu Xiaonuan listened to the man’s quickening heartbeat beside her, turning her head in puzzlement. What was wrong with him? Why had his heart rate and blood flow suddenly sped up?
Gu Xiaonuan lowered her gaze to their joined hands. The temperature of his hand had mysteriously risen as well.
Her cold little hand tried to pull away, but his warm fingers quickly curled around hers. Lu Yichen, his face slightly flushed, whispered, “Don’t let go.”
Gu Xiaonuan replied with an “Oh.” So it wasn’t because of that.
This time, instead of sitting in the back seat, Lu Yichen sat directly in the front passenger seat.
He leaned his head against the side, neon lights dazzling outside. The city’s night was only just beginning.
A red light stopped the car.
The man’s fingers reached over, along with his warm breath.
Gu Xiaonuan’s chin was gently turned, and his warm lips pressed down on hers. His soft black hair brushed across her nose, making her close her eyes involuntarily to avoid it.
The touch was as light as a dragonfly skimming the water, like a feather playfully sweeping by.
The warm presence retreated. Gu Xiaonuan opened her eyes; the red light would end in a few seconds. The man beside her let out a soft laugh, delighted like someone who had succeeded in a prank.
Gu Xiaonuan looked ahead as the light turned green and continued driving. Lu Yichen sat quietly beside her, his dark eyes gazing at the scenery outside the window.
Inside the car, soothing Japanese love songs played. The occasional light drifting in fell, bright and dim, onto Lu Yichen’s clean, fair face.
She’d found a way to make him quietly come closer to her.
