Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 22
When Gu Xiaonuan woke up, she found herself in a toilet stall.
She was sitting on Lu Yichen’s lap, held by him as they sat on the toilet seat. She tried to move her head, but a sharp pain shot through her.
The pain made her suck in a breath, and the man holding her snapped back to attention. His face was lowered, eyes slightly red as he looked at her. “You’re awake.”
Gu Xiaonuan managed a weak hum in response, her whole body leaning sideways in his arms, her head powerless and resting against the hollow of his neck.
She’d just had her neck stomped on hard-she figured it must be injured.
“You…!”
She had just opened her mouth when she saw tears fall from his eyes, landing on her cheek.
“Don’t cry.” Gu Xiaonuan lifted her hand, suddenly flustered. Why was he crying? She was fine, wasn’t she?
“Were you bitten?”
Gu Xiaonuan immediately realized what he meant and tried to lift herself to check his neck, but Lu Yichen shook his head, tears falling even harder.
His body trembled slightly, and Gu Xiaonuan could only reach up and wipe his tears away. Anyone witnessing such a scene would be scared.
“He left, dragging that man on the ground.” Lu Yichen spoke in a low voice. After her cold fingers wiped away his tears, more fell, accompanied by a trembling sigh. “Don’t scare me, Xiao Nuan. Are you really okay?”
Gu Xiaonuan’s body stiffened, her lips twitching. “I’m really fine. The Vampire Clan isn’t that easy to kill.”
“…Really?”
Lu Yichen didn’t say anything more, just held her like that. Gu Xiaonuan listened to the sounds outside. “What about your dinner meeting?”
“I sent a message saying I had an emergency and left. It won’t affect anything.”
Gu Xiaonuan leaned against him and hummed in response. The outline for the new book the other party wanted had already been written by Lu Yichen, so it really wouldn’t affect anything.
“Can you carry me?” Gu Xiaonuan asked. Her neck still couldn’t move, but after a night she’d be fine. “Carry me out first.”
“…Sorry, my legs are too weak to walk.”
Lu Yichen’s lips twitched, his arms tightening around her. “Just let me stay like this a little longer.”
Gu Xiaonuan felt his slight trembling and thought of the earlier scene. She hummed and said nothing more.
The two sat in the stall. Occasionally, someone would push the door, but luckily it was the men’s restroom, so not many people came in.
They sat for a long time. Gu Xiaonuan moved her head slightly-the restaurant was about to close. Her neck felt like she was carrying a sack. She gritted her teeth and forced herself to lift it.
“Whew… He never goes easy.” She muttered, holding her head with both hands, trying to stand up from Lu Yichen’s arms.
The man holding her stood up, carrying her out of the stall in his arms. Gu Xiaonuan’s head swayed and she curled back into his embrace.
As they walked out, a man standing there was stunned. Lu Yichen, expressionless, carried Gu Xiaonuan out quickly, his steps swift.
It was a while before the man standing there looked back at the stall. “Damn, bro, you’re something else.”
When Gu Xiaonuan was carried out, she glanced at the bathroom floor-there wasn’t a trace of blood. Who cleaned it up? Lu Yichen?
She was carefully carried back to the car. Lu Yichen got into the driver’s seat, while Gu Xiaonuan lay in the back. Her phone rang.
It was a call from Ji Xiangnan.
The Old Man rarely called her. Gu Xiaonuan answered, and Ji Xiangnan’s voice was surprisingly anxious. “You’re not home. Where are you now?”
“I’m out with Lu Yichen. What’s wrong?”
Gu Xiaonuan thought he knew about her being roughed up. “I didn’t expect…”
“No matter what you’re doing, bring your food and come back immediately.” Ji Xiangnan’s voice was stern. “Now. Right now.”
Gu Xiaonuan frowned. Was it really that serious? It wasn’t the first time she’d been bullied by her own kind-she’d had it worse before, and he’d never demanded this of her.
“Old Man, you…”
“Fang Li has been killed.”
Ji Xiangnan’s words stunned Gu Xiaonuan. She struggled to sit up in her seat. She heard him, but didn’t understand what he meant.
“Xiao Nuan? Xiao Nuan!” Ji Xiangnan grew impatient on the other end. “Do I need to repeat myself? If you don’t want to die, come back now!”
“Got it, I’m coming back now.”
Gu Xiaonuan hung up, lying there in a daze. Fang Li-the Vampire who had attacked her-was dead?
Lu Yichen’s dark eyes reflected in the rearview mirror. He spoke softly, “What’s wrong? Why are you so flustered?”
“It’s nothing.”
Gu Xiaonuan replied quietly, still in shock. Fang Li, a 110-year-old Vampire, had been killed.
Lu Yichen pressed his lips together and didn’t ask further. The car moved through the night, stopping and starting, just like the fear accumulating in Gu Xiaonuan’s heart, bit by bit.
Lu Yichen carried her out of the car, all the way to her doorstep. Ji Xiangnan heard the commotion and opened the door. “Bring her in. You go back next door.”
Lu Yichen lowered his head slightly. Hearing Ji Xiangnan’s words, his body trembled. Gu Xiaonuan reached out to his shoulder, soothing him. “Go on back.”
“Okay.”
Lu Yichen gently placed her on the sofa. Gu Xiaonuan, struggling, leaned her head against the edge. The man’s clean, handsome face lowered, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Ji Xiangnan stood by the door, raising his eyebrows at the scene. The kid was growing up.
“I’ll wait for you.”
His eyes grew misty again. Gu Xiaonuan’s breath caught for no reason, and she hummed in response.
Lu Yichen turned and walked past Ji Xiangnan, leaving.
When the door closed, a faint light flashed in Lu Yichen’s eyes.
