Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 24
When Gu Xiaonuan finished washing up and stepped out of the bathroom, there was already an uninvited guest on her bed.
Lu Yichen seemed to be asleep, lying on his side with his bare upper body on the bed, half the quilt hugged tightly in his arms, as if he were holding someone.
He was still wearing jeans on his lower half, and since his back was to her, the slightly raised muscles of his back looked as if an invisible line ran down the center, tracing his spine and disappearing into his jeans.
“Wake up.”
Gu Xiaonuan walked over and gently patted his cheek. The man lying there responded sleepily, slowly opened his eyes, and when he saw it was Gu Xiaonuan, he smiled, still half-hugging the quilt.
“You’re here.”
“What do you mean, I’m here? This is my room. If you want to sleep, go change your clothes and come over…”
Lu Yichen laughed, hooked her from the edge of the bed into his arms, and tossed the quilt aside.
He buried his head against her back, his soft hair brushing the nape of her neck, his arms circling her waist, looking like he was about to fall asleep again.
“Lu Yichen, go change your clothes!”
Gu Xiaonuan shifted uncomfortably. He was pressed tightly against her, and the jeans made her feel uneasy, especially the belt at his waist.
“Hmm?”
Lu Yichen, still pressed against her back, responded sleepily again, even tightening his arms around her.
“Go put on pajamas, or I’ll kick you out.”
Gu Xiaonuan moved away again, lying on her side in his arms and whispering. The man behind her withdrew his arm and got off the bed.
Gu Xiaonuan thought he was going back to his own room to change, but then she heard the sound of a belt being undone.
She quickly turned around. He was standing at the edge of the bed with his back to her, only the outline of his body visible in the darkness.
With a few movements, he slid the jeans down his legs.
He turned and climbed back onto the bed.
“Is this okay?” His voice was thick with sleepiness as he snuggled closer, his warm body like a little heater, wrapping her up tightly.
Gu Xiaonuan lay there, momentarily unsure how to react.
Was he wearing underwear? He was, he should be.
His legs pressed against her from behind. Gu Xiaonuan glanced back; his fair skin was clearly visible in the darkness.
His even breathing soon sounded behind her again. Gu Xiaonuan sighed softly, pulled the quilt over both of them, and thought she might as well prepare a set of his clothes in her room.
Click.
The sound of the door opening next door made Gu Xiaonuan instantly open her eyes. She glanced at her phone screen beside her-3 a.m.
The Old Man had just left yesterday; there was no way he’d be back at this hour.
Who would dare enter Ji Xiangnan’s lair, besides her… who else could it be?
Lu Yichen was still holding her, his breathing steady, clearly in a deep sleep.
Gu Xiaonuan slipped his arm away, and before he could pull her back, she quickly got out of bed.
Like a black cat, she concealed her presence completely in the night, landing soundlessly. Gu Xiaonuan pushed open the door and slipped out quietly.
Meanwhile, the man who had been sound asleep on the bed slowly opened his dark eyes.
Gu Xiaonuan opened her chat with Ji Xiangnan; their conversation hadn’t moved in days.
Standing at the doorway, Gu Xiaonuan typed quickly, “Old Man, someone’s entered your lair.”
She waited for a while, but received no reply from Ji Xiangnan.
From next door, a clearer sound drifted over-it was Ji Xiangnan’s old-fashioned record player, someone was playing music on it.
Gu Xiaonuan frowned slightly, her hand resting on the doorknob, unmoving.
If the Old Man really was in trouble, all that had been taken was his lair. She, even more so, shouldn’t walk right into a trap.
With her current abilities, she could barely protect Lu Yichen as a human. If she had to fight her own kind, she didn’t stand much of a chance.
Gu Xiaonuan let her hand fall from the doorknob and took a few steps back. But now, she didn’t dare to take Lu Yichen and leave rashly-outside was even more dangerous.
A 110-year-old Vampire had been killed, and the Old Man’s repeated warnings made Gu Xiaonuan realize things were far from simple.
“Xiao Nuan?”
Lu Yichen stumbled out of the bedroom, still groggy. “Why are you standing by the door?”
Hearing his voice, Gu Xiaonuan’s body instinctively moved closer to him at the sound of her name. She perked up her ears and heard the music next door stop.
Her steps quickened, almost to the point of teleportation. One hand covered Lu Yichen’s mouth, the other wrapped around his waist.
Footsteps had already stopped outside the door.
It was too late to return to the bedroom. Where could they hide… Gu Xiaonuan glanced at the bar counter in the dining area, and in just a second, she moved there with Lu Yichen in her arms.
The sound of a keypad being pressed rang out. Gu Xiaonuan’s eyes filled with a blood-red haze. The code on her side had already been changed, but the other party knew it-they must have gotten it from the Old Man.
The man, wearing only a pair of boxer briefs, was stuffed under the bar counter by Gu Xiaonuan. Before he could react, Gu Xiaonuan stood in front of him, using her body to shield him as best she could.
“Hm? The code’s wrong?”
Someone outside muttered softly. The blood-red in Gu Xiaonuan’s eyes deepened. If it came to a fight, what were her chances of survival?
Gu Xiaonuan tugged at the corner of her mouth. The answer was: none at all.
The man’s warm hand crept up her leg. Annoyed, Gu Xiaonuan looked down and saw Lu Yichen’s eyes, misty with confusion.
He seemed to know he shouldn’t make a sound, and only mouthed silently, “What’s wrong?”
His hand trembled slightly. Gu Xiaonuan stared at the door, then crouched down and squeezed in with him.
The space beneath the bar was cramped. Gu Xiaonuan could only sit on Lu Yichen’s lap. His cheeks flushed instantly, turning a deep red.
Gu Xiaonuan had no time to wonder why his face was so red, or why his body temperature was suddenly rising.
Without the scent of blood to guide them, even if their own kind came looking, they might not find them easily.
Beneath her, Lu Yichen’s body seemed to want to move. Gu Xiaonuan heard the keypad being pressed again and leaned in to hold him tightly.
Lu Yichen, his face burning, was held in her arms. Her icy body temperature did nothing to quench the fire blazing ever hotter inside him.
Unable to resist, he wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly in the cramped space.
The flush spread rapidly from his pale cheeks to his ears, and he buried his handsome face in Gu Xiaonuan’s hair.
At that moment, the door was opened from outside.
And his body, honest as ever, responded.
