Feed Me, Husband - chapter 3
Chapter 3
Gu Xiaonuan did not expect that the next day, the young Mr. Lu would come to the editorial department.
With a beaming smile, Sister Liu introduced him to everyone, “Everyone, this is Lu Yichen, who recently won a literary award-the most promising author of the year!”
Everyone couldn’t help but stand up and applaud. Gu Xiaonuan also stood up, looking at that handsome face with a shy smile, as if there was a clear spring in those eyes.
His good looks prompted many people to ask, “Mr. Lu, do you have a girlfriend?”
“If not, would you consider someone in the industry?”
Lu Yichen smiled even more bashfully, a faint blush spreading across his cheeks, his gaze darting about nervously like a startled deer. In that instant, his eyes met Gu Xiaonuan’s.
“Miss Gu!”
Hearing this call, Gu Xiaonuan was taken aback. The other colleagues all turned their heads, “Xiaonuan won’t do, she already has a boyfriend!”
Lu Yichen, standing there, was stunned, his cheeks seeming to flush even redder. “No, that’s not what I meant…”
His shy, deer-like eyes turned toward her. “Thank you for picking me up at the airport that day.”
Gu Xiaonuan smiled, “You’re welcome.”
“Alright, you all get back to work. Come, let’s talk over here.”
Lu Yichen nodded to everyone and followed Sister Liu into the office. The colleagues couldn’t help but gossip, “Wow, he looks so well-behaved!”
“You can tell at a glance he comes from a good family. With looks like that, he could go straight into showbiz.”
“I think Sister Liu has the same idea. Meeting him in person this time, I bet it’s not just about signing a book.”
Gu Xiaonuan glanced around the editing room. The scent of blood still lingered faintly in the air; it seemed the small wound from that day hadn’t fully healed. Fortunately… she had already fed yesterday, so she didn’t react much.
Gu Xiaonuan stood up and walked into the pantry. The kettle was boiling water. She opened the cupboard high up where the drinks were stored.
The coffee was inside, but even after tiptoeing several times, she couldn’t reach it.
“Is this what you want?”
A figure appeared directly behind her, so close she could hear the blood rushing through his veins.
“Here.”
A packet of coffee was handed to her. The person behind her looked down and smiled at her. Gu Xiaonuan was momentarily stunned. “Th-thank you.”
Lu Yichen chuckled softly, closed the cupboard above, and stepped back half a pace. “Could you make a cup for me too?”
The pantry wasn’t big, and with two people inside, it felt a bit cramped.
“Go sit over there, I’ll make it for you.”
“Okay.”
Lu Yichen sat down at the small bar nearby. Gu Xiaonuan waited absentmindedly for the water to boil. The faint scent of blood drifted in the air. The water boiled.
“Here, your coffee.”
She handed over the coffee as quickly as possible. Holding her own cup, Gu Xiaonuan hurried out, when suddenly-crash!
“I’m so sorry!”
Coffee spilled all over the floor from the shattered cup, with wisps of steam still rising. Gu Xiaonuan turned around and saw slender fingers picking up the broken pieces.
In the blink of an eye, the sharp edge of a shard cut his finger.
The scent burst forth like a blooming flower, so sweet that Gu Xiaonuan stood there dazed, unable to look away.
So fragrant, so sweet, she wanted to taste it so badly…
It was like Medusa’s temptation-even knowing she’d turn to stone, she still wanted to look into those eyes.
“Miss-Miss Gu…”
The shy call snapped Gu Xiaonuan back to her senses. In front of her was a devastatingly handsome face, flushed red, his eyelashes trembling, as if tears were about to fall from his eyes.
That injured finger was right by her lips.
What was she doing!
Gu Xiaonuan instinctively touched her lips-no blood, thank goodness, thank goodness…
“You’re hurt, don’t move. I’ll get someone to come in and bandage you.” Gu Xiaonuan stood up at once and hurriedly pushed the door open to leave.
She had just fed yesterday, so why had she almost revealed her fangs just now!
Fangs… she had actually wanted to bite him!
“Xiaonuan, why do you look so pale? What’s wrong?”
“The pantry-Mr. Lu cut his finger. Could you…”
“Oh my god, got it! If you faint at the sight of blood, just leave it to me.”
Gu Xiaonuan nodded. The door to the pantry was opened, and that sweet scent-so intoxicating it drove her mad all over again-rushed out.
Gu Xiaonuan immediately asked for leave and fled back to her own home as if escaping.
Was it because she hadn’t eaten enough? Or was it that this time the interval had truly been too long, so that even after a meal, she still felt such an intense craving…
What on earth was happening to her?
Buzz-buzz-
Gu Xiaonuan looked at the screen. It was a completely unfamiliar number. She answered, and a flustered, apologetic voice came through.
“Miss Gu, I got your number from your colleague. I just found out you faint at the sight of blood. I’m so sorry for scaring you earlier.”
A flush of blood-red surged into Gu Xiaonuan’s eyes. Her throat felt unusually parched because of his voice. “It’s fine. I’ve taken leave and gone home to rest.”
“It’s that serious? It’s all my fault. Do you need to go to the hospital for a checkup? What’s your address? I can take you right now…”
“No need, someone’s taking care of me.”
“…I forgot, your boyfriend is there. Alright then, I’m really sorry.”
“Thank you for your concern. I’m really fine, so I’ll hang up now.”
Gu Xiaonuan tossed aside her phone and buried herself in the covers, breathing with difficulty. Her throat grew drier and drier. Should she go find Ji Xiangnan? Should she drink another bag of blood…
She lay there in a daze, not knowing how much time had passed before that maddening craving finally subsided a little.
Only then did Gu Xiaonuan poke her head out from under the covers. It was already growing dark outside.
She should go find Ji Xiangnan. She probably hadn’t eaten enough-maybe another bag would completely ease the craving.
Gu Xiaonuan opened the door. A shadow crouched by the doorway suddenly stirred, and a pair of bright, clear eyes appeared. “Miss Gu, are you feeling better?”
The figure in the shadows stood up. She couldn’t quite make out his expression in the darkness, only those always-moist eyes and the faint shadow his lashes cast on his cheeks.
“Lu… How are you here? You know my home address?”
“I didn’t know your reaction to blood was so severe. I was worried about you, so Sister Liu gave me your address.” Lu Yichen glanced into the dark interior. “Didn’t you say someone was taking care of you?”
“…He left earlier.” Gu Xiaonuan looked at him. “I’m really fine, as you can see.” She smiled slightly. “It was just a sudden incident earlier.”
“A sudden incident…” Lu Yichen gave a shy smile. “As long as you’re alright, I’m relieved. Are you heading out to eat now?”
Gu Xiaonuan took a deep breath. The scent of blood lingering around him was still there, but not strong-his wound must have been properly bandaged.
“No, I’m planning to go out and buy some things, then cook for myself.”
“That’s perfect. I bought some things-let me carry them in for you!”
……
Gu Xiaonuan really hadn’t expected him to pick up on that so smoothly. She could only reply stiffly, “Just leave them at the door. I still need to go out and buy a few things.”
“Alright.”
Lu Yichen carried his things into the entryway. His dark eyes caught sight of a pair of men’s slippers placed below.
A faint blush crept up his cheeks. The bandage on his injured finger had somehow disappeared.
The wound was squeezed hard, and fresh blood began to flow from the split skin again.
Lu Yichen heard the distinct sound of someone sharply inhaling behind him.
He turned around slowly, still wearing that shy expression. “Miss Gu, I’ve put the things away.”
His blood-stained fingers, whether intentionally or not, waved in front of Gu Xiaonuan.
“Miss Gu?”
Snap!
His hand was suddenly grabbed by Gu Xiaonuan. Her hand was cold as ice, her gaze fixed on his wound, unable to look away.
The corners of the man’s lips slowly curled upward. He let her hold his palm, while his other arm reached out to close the door again.
Her red lips were about to press against the split wound, but her slender neck was suddenly gripped by him, tilting her already dazed face up.
The once harmlessly handsome face now showed an inexplicable excitement.
He moved his fingers away and smeared the blood onto his own lips.
Slowly, he leaned down, bringing his thin lips to hers.
“Not the finger-here.”
