His thin lips brushed against her fingertips, and those eyes seemed to see right through her.

Gu Xiaonuan looked at him, her hand, as if bewitched, reached up to gently trace the shape of his eyes.

She softly stroked his trembling eyelashes, his high nose bridge, and his lips, still bearing wounds.

The man’s hand closed around hers, his eyes full of laughter and anticipation.

Gu Xiaonuan’s throat tightened. Responsibility-was this the kind of human relationship the Old Man had talked about?

The Old Man had also said that binding one’s food with a human relationship was a good choice.

“Boyfriend and girlfriend?”

Gu Xiaonuan spoke. Lu Yichen looked at her eyes, still cold and unruffled, and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

“Alright, it’s up to you.” He kissed her palm lightly. “Whatever you say we are, that’s what we are.”

Lu Yichen let go of her and returned to the bar to continue eating, clearly much happier than before.

Gu Xiaonuan sat on the sofa, frowning slightly as she watched his barely concealed joy. Was he really this happy?

In the following days, Sherry still stayed in Ji Xiangnan’s lair, still brought her own food, and Gu Xiaonuan still went every day to do her ‘hourly work’.

But since the day of the clan gathering, she hadn’t seen Su Qingqing again.

“You can go back now.”

Sherry sat on the sofa and spoke softly to Gu Xiaonuan. Gu Xiaonuan responded with a simple “Mm” and opened the door to leave without another word.

This elder Vampire seemed to have changed toward her; the once aggressive attitude had softened, and she no longer made things difficult for her.

“You’re back.”

As soon as she opened the door, the man’s warm body heat enveloped her, and Gu Xiaonuan was pulled into a tight embrace.

No longer just a simple kiss on the forehead-ever since Gu Xiaonuan had said they were boyfriend and girlfriend, Lu Yichen had become much bolder, like now.

With a slight effort, he lifted Gu Xiaonuan up and carried her inside, his handsome face nuzzling against hers in a spoiled manner.

From her initial discomfort, Gu Xiaonuan now accepted it calmly. She realized that Lu Yichen was completely immersed in a joyful atmosphere.

Especially after she satisfied his desire for interaction, his mood changed even more noticeably.

More importantly, the taste of his blood really did subtly change with his emotions.

Just like now, Gu Xiaonuan leaned forward slightly, wrapping her arms around his neck. The smile on his lips grew even brighter, and his arms tightened around her.

Gu Xiaonuan inhaled gently; his scent had changed.

The Old Man had once told her, though only in passing, since back then she hadn’t needed to use her fangs.

Keeping your food in a good mood also makes things more pleasant for yourself.

Words Ji Xiangnan had once said flashed through her mind. Of course, the premise was that the Vampire herself also enjoyed this kind of fun.

Gu Xiaonuan looked at his handsome, clean face. He was her only food source-making him happy made her happy too. There was nothing wrong with that.

Gu Xiaonuan’s red lips moved closer, gently pressing a kiss to the corner of his upturned mouth.

Lu Yichen was momentarily stunned, his handsome face rubbing against hers as he spoke in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”

Gu Xiaonuan stared into his eyes. The taste hadn’t changed. Was he not happy?

Lu Yichen chuckled softly, kissed her cheek, and set her down. “I’ll get back to writing. I’ll be busy for a bit.”

Watching his back as he walked into his room, Gu Xiaonuan responded with a soft “Mm” and returned to her own room. After changing into her pajamas, she turned on her computer.

She hadn’t gone to work for half a month, but fortunately, most of the tasks Sister Liu had given her could be done online. Otherwise, she would have been fired in no time.

The writer Gu Xiaonuan had been responsible for urging to submit drafts had been assigned to someone else, which was a relief-honestly, that writer was a bit clingy.

Gu Xiaonuan focused on her work when her phone rang-it was a message from Ji Xiangnan.

The alert here had been lifted, but Ji Xiangnan still wouldn’t be able to return for a while.

Soon after, Gu Xiaonuan heard the sound of a door opening next door. Sherry seemed eager to leave; the moment the Old Man finished informing her, she left immediately.

Gu Xiaonuan set her phone aside, thinking of Su Qingqing, who had disappeared during this time, and shook her head slightly.

She was probably abandoned.

“Still busy?” Lu Yichen pushed the door open, yawned, and lay down on the bed.

Gu Xiaonuan glanced at the time and realized it was already past eleven.

“I need to work a bit longer. You go ahead and sleep.”

Gu Xiaonuan looked at her computer screen. “The Old Man just messaged me-the alert here is over, and Sherry has already left.”

A sharp glint flashed in Lu Yichen’s eyes as he lay on the bed. He responded, “So Ji Xiangnan will be back soon?”

“He’s not coming back for now, and he didn’t say when he would.”
Lu Yichen responded with another hum, lying on his side and hugging the entire quilt to his chest. “So, our movement restrictions are lifted too. We can go out now.”

Gu Xiaonuan answered with a soft hum. “But you still can’t go out alone. Whatever you do, I’ll go with you.”

“Xiao Nuan.”

Gu Xiaonuan, sitting there, trembled slightly. “What is it?”

“Have you ever considered becoming my editor?”

Gu Xiaonuan was taken aback for a moment. Lu Yichen got out of bed and walked behind her computer. “My new book is already online. I’ve actually turned down a lot of events recently, and there will only be more in the future. Do you really have time to accompany me to every single one?”

Lu Yichen leaned in slightly, like a seductive imperial consort tempting the emperor.

“Since it’s hard to be in two places at once, why not just stay by my side? Wouldn’t that be better?”

Gu Xiaonuan frowned slightly. He was right, after all. As the only food for the blood contract, every decision she made now should revolve around him.

This job was just her disguise for blending into the human world, and didn’t hold any other meaning.

“Alright, I’ll talk to Sister Liu tomorrow and hand over my work.”

Lu Yichen smiled softly and returned to the bed to lie down.

Buzz buzz buzz-!

Lu Yichen’s phone rang, piercing the silence of the night.

Gu Xiaonuan raised her eyebrows slightly. A call at this hour?

Lu Yichen answered, and a voice came from the other end. “Yichen, calling you at this time-you’re not asleep yet, are you?”

“No, please go ahead.”

Lu Yichen sat up, leaning against the soft headboard, put the call on speaker, and placed the phone on the bedside table.

The voice from the other end came through clearly. Gu Xiaonuan’s fingers paused above her keyboard.

“Here’s the thing. Since your new book has been signed, how about I assign you an editor? They’ll help you proofread and review, so you can focus on writing. All the trivial matters can go directly through the editor, and you won’t have to handle them yourself.”

Gu Xiaonuan raised an eyebrow. It was the publishing bigwig who had personally seen Lu Yichen off the other day.

“This editor is my niece. She studied publishing, and although she’s young, she has experience as an editor. She just returned from abroad, so you two should have plenty in common.”

Lu Yichen chuckled, his dark eyes sweeping over Gu Xiaonuan behind the computer. She seemed unconcerned, focused on her screen.

“You’re a bit late. I’ve just found a good editor, and we’ve already agreed.”

“You’re a rising star. Your editor needs to have solid experience and social skills, otherwise how can they help you?”

“The person I’ve chosen is very capable and meets all my requirements. Thank you for your concern.”

Lu Yichen replied calmly, his dark eyes fixed on Gu Xiaonuan, who didn’t even look up.

“I see… Well, when do you have time to bring your editor over?”

“Whenever you’re free.”

“Then tomorrow night. Let’s meet.”

“Alright.”

The call ended, and Gu Xiaonuan shut down her computer. Lu Yichen’s fingers turned off the power, and in the darkness, Gu Xiaonuan walked to the bedside.

With a gentle tug, she was pulled into his arms.

“You really don’t care?”

Lu Yichen held her, his hand slowly caressing her back. “Someone just tried to push his niece into my arms.”

Gu Xiaonuan said nothing. Lu Yichen couldn’t help but lift her face, but her eyes remained cold as ever.

“Xiao Nuan, is it that as long as it’s not someone of your kind approaching me, you don’t really care?” His slender fingers tightened slightly, pinching her chin. “Even if I’m holding another woman in my arms, it wouldn’t matter to you?”

Gu Xiaonuan pressed her lips together. “What do you want? For me to act like a human?” She looked into Lu Yichen’s eyes in the darkness.

“I’m a Vampire, Lu Yichen. My heart doesn’t beat. The human emotions you want-I can’t…”

“…Go to sleep.”

With a soft sigh, she was pressed into his embrace.

In the dark night, Gu Xiaonuan curled up in Lu Yichen’s arms, her cold body pressed against his warm one. Once she got used to this temperature, it seemed she never wanted to leave.

Lu Yichen slowly opened his eyes and hugged the little Vampire in his arms tightly.

He wanted her.

He wanted to make her cry for him, to shed the sweetest tears.

He wanted her to rejoice for him, to let out the most uncontrollable, passionate moans.

He wanted this dead seed to take root and sprout again because of him, to grow and bear sweet fruit.

Human emotions.

Lu Yichen chuckled softly. Xiao Nuan, how could what I want ever be just these things.
