Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 33
Gu Xiaonuan submitted her resignation the very next day. This wasn’t the first time she had resigned on her own initiative; with her long life, she was destined never to stay in the same group for too long.
A face that would never be marked by the passage of time could be unsettling to behold.
If Lu Yichen hadn’t made such a request, she might have stayed for another decade before resigning. This time, it was indeed rather sudden.
Sister Liu’s repeated efforts to keep her were gently refused by Gu Xiaonuan; in the end, she had no choice but to let her go, but still insisted on holding a farewell party regardless.
Gu Xiaonuan thought it over and agreed.
Ji Xiangnan had taught her to blend into human society and to ensure every social relationship ended as well as it began.
Even for a Vampire, being constantly on the move was not a good thing.
“Come back early.”
At the door, the man’s arm was wrapped around Gu Xiaonuan’s waist. Although he said the words, he clearly had no intention of letting her go.
“I know.” Gu Xiaonuan patted Lu Yichen’s arm. “If you don’t let go, I’m going to be late.”
“Okay.”
He agreed, but his hands still refused to release her. Instead, he pulled her even tighter into his embrace.
Lu Yichen’s face moved closer, his glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, his eyes hidden behind the reflection of the lenses. His high nose brushed against her delicate one, and his lips pressed onto hers.
His slender fingers slowly caressed the back of her neck; with a gentle force on her petite chin, the kiss deepened.
“Xiao Nuan, put away your fangs. This is a kiss, not feeding.”
Lu Yichen’s voice sounded in Gu Xiaonuan’s ear. The crimson in her eyes started to spread. Just as her fangs retracted, the man seized the moment and deepened the kiss.
When the kiss ended, the tip of his tongue gently licked her thin lips before he retreated slightly.
“I’ll wait for you.”
He even thoughtfully opened the door for her.
Gu Xiaonuan stepped out, and the bloodlust he had stirred up could only be suppressed by herself. Her phone rang with countless messages, all asking where she was.
Everyone else had arrived; only she was missing.
Gu Xiaonuan checked the time. That man had made her late again.
It was a farewell party, but in reality, it was just another ordinary company dinner. A dozen people sat in a private room, chatting and laughing merrily.
Gu Xiaonuan sat quietly next to Sister Liu, listening to the others’ banter-friendly and polite, yet always a bit distant.
“Xiao Nuan, you never attend these gatherings, and now that you finally do, it’s for your farewell.”
“Yeah, why are you leaving? Weren’t you doing really well here?”
“Are you switching jobs? Or changing careers? What are your plans after resigning?”
“Oh come on, why are you interrogating her? Whatever she chooses to do is her own business. Just mind your own,” Sister Liu said with a laugh. “Come on, let’s drink to Xiao Nuan’s bright future!”
Gu Xiaonuan looked at the glass in front of her, full of liquid. Sister Liu whispered, “Don’t worry, it’s not alcohol, just a soft drink.”
Smiling, Gu Xiaonuan raised her glass and drank it all in one go.
No matter what the liquid was, it had no taste at all when she drank it.
The dinner continued, with constant toasting. Gu Xiaonuan couldn’t understand why humans enjoyed this so much-drinking endlessly.
Glass after glass of soft drinks went down. Gu Xiaonuan glanced at the time; it seemed she should be heading back.
Suddenly, a strange feeling washed over her. Gu Xiaonuan frowned slightly, sensing that something was off.
Outside the private room, two waiters hurried past. “That case of alcoholic drinks was sent to the wrong room. I can’t remember where I took it.”
“You’re done for. You’ll have to pay for that case yourself.”
At 11 p.m., Lu Yichen sat in front of his computer. He stopped typing, rubbed his eyes, and took off his glasses.
He picked up his phone. His little vampire still hadn’t come home?
The red dot on his phone was at a surprising location. Lu Yichen frowned slightly-where had Xiao Nuan gone?
The location where she’d had dinner and where she was now were very far apart.
With a narrowing of his dark eyes, Lu Yichen grabbed a light coat and went out immediately.
Meanwhile, the farewell party was finally winding down. Everyone had drunk their fill, and no one had noticed when the guest of honor had slipped away.
“Hey, where’s Xiao Nuan?” Sister Liu asked drowsily. The colleagues looked around. “Maybe… she left early.”
There were few clouds in the summer night sky. The air in T City had not been much polluted, and the stars above were clear and countless.
A solitary figure stood in the darkness, her black hair lifted by the wind.
High above on the streetlamp, Gu Xiaonuan stood balanced on a single point, in a way that defied human comprehension.
She was like a bird, steady on nothing but that one spot.
A reddish tinge had already crept into her eyes. She looked ahead into the dark night and let out a gentle breath.
Luckily, no one was passing by this street at this hour. Otherwise, anyone who saw Gu Xiaonuan like this would surely record a video and post it online.
“Xiao Nuan.”
Lu Yichen’s voice made her slowly lower her blood-tinted gaze. He stood below in his trench coat, looking up and calling her name.
That clean face, those clear eyes – just as beautiful as the stars above.
Gu Xiaonuan crouched down, like a little bat folding its wings, yet she did not fall from the streetlamp.
Lu Yichen saw the red glint in her eyes and opened his arms. “Xiao Nuan, come here.”
Her usually expressionless face broke into a smile at his call.
Her red lips curled up, even showing her tiny fangs.
The smile spread from the corners of her mouth to her cheeks, and finally to her eyes.
Lu Yichen watched her smile, feeling as if something had struck his heart. For the first time, he saw emotion in Gu Xiaonuan.
Emotion that changed because of him.
“Xiao Nuan,” he called again, his heart pounding.
He didn’t dare raise his voice or make any sudden move, afraid his little vampire would vanish into the crimson night in the next moment.
It was Lu Yichen. It was him.
Gu Xiaonuan, crouching and smiling at him, leapt down from the streetlamp.
Her petite body, as light as a feather, landed steadily in his arms.
She laughed softly, with a faint trace of intoxication swirling around her.
Lu Yichen froze again, staring in disbelief at the little vampire in his arms – she was actually drunk.
Her fair skin showed no sign of inebriation, except the deepening red in her eyes and a few out-of-character actions.
Gu Xiaonuan clung to him, her cold little face rubbing against his chest, nearly making Lu Yichen lose control.
He simply hugged her tighter, wrapped her up in his trench coat, and strode toward the car.
Gu Xiaonuan chuckled softly, her petite body moving upward. “Lu Yichen, your heart is beating faster.”
He pressed his thin lips together, never expecting her drunk self to be like this.
“You’re drunk.” His handsome face flushed as he reached the car, setting Gu Xiaonuan down.
He thought she would get in, but to his surprise, her small figure lunged at him again, this time with vampire speed and strength.
Lu Yichen was carried horizontally in her arms.
“Xiao Nuan!”
Gu Xiaonuan smiled, bringing her face closer. “Your heartbeat is even faster now. Are you scared?”
Her reddish eyes glanced at the distant buildings, her delicate face smiling at him.
“Lu Yichen, let me take you flying.”
Before he could reply, Gu Xiaonuan dashed away with him in her arms, her explosive vampire speed whipping the wind past their cheeks in the quiet summer night.
With her laughter in his ears, she carried Lu Yichen and leapt straight up along the outside of the building.
In a few leaps, they stood on a protruding platform high above.
“Don’t be afraid.”
Gu Xiaonuan held the man tightly in her arms, then leapt off the platform.
Lu Yichen wrapped his arms around her neck. As they fell, her face came close – her wine-scented red lips found his and kissed him.
A faint taste of alcohol passed from her mouth, her gaze locked on his. When her lips parted, Gu Xiaonuan bared her fangs.
“It’s a kiss, not feeding.”
Something flickered in Lu Yichen’s dark eyes, but Gu Xiaonuan suddenly grew dizzy and her arms loosened!
Lu Yichen, who had been in her embrace, plunged downward. Gu Xiaonuan’s vision blurred, but she still remembered to reach toward him.
Bang.
Just before hitting the ground, Lu Yichen twisted in the air and a silver cross shot from his hand toward the earth.
Snap!
A silver chain sprang from the cross and went taut in an instant!
He landed solidly; the chain slackened as it reached the ground, and at the same moment, Gu Xiaonuan’s body fell once again into his arms.
In the night, Lu Yichen’s dark eyes gazed at the already drunk Gu Xiaonuan in his arms, and he smiled softly.
“Xiao Nuan, you can’t go anywhere but my arms.”
