The venue for the literary salon was inside an art museum located in a large central park. The museum was situated at the center of the park and frequently hosted various cultural exhibitions.

This central park was one of T City’s famous landmarks, and it was vast.

The distance from the east gate to the west gate was much farther than just a straight line on a map.

Gu Xiaonuan drove the car into the parking lot near the west gate. Coming from the east gate, even running at human speed would take half an hour.

She glanced at Lu Yichen, who was still leaning back in the passenger seat with his eyes closed, and decided to let him sleep a while longer.

Wearing a baseball cap, Gu Xiaonuan sat in the driver’s seat, leaning on the steering wheel as she scrolled through her phone.

Looking at the online stats about Lu Yichen’s new book, she raised her eyebrows slightly.

He was indeed a dark horse among newcomers, but wasn’t the momentum of this new book a bit too strong? Even some film companies were already showing interest in negotiating the rights to the book he was currently writing.

Gu Xiaonuan turned her head. With Lu Yichen’s looks, this popularity would surely reach even greater heights. No wonder that big shot thought so highly of him.

A true talent among men-he fit the phrase perfectly.

Time passed by minute by minute. Gu Xiaonuan did a quick calculation; that young lady should be arriving soon.

“Lu Yichen?” She patted the man in the passenger seat. “Wake up, don’t sleep yet.”

“Mm…”

The man lying there made a reluctant sound. Gu Xiaonuan gently shook his body. “Wake up, time to get out.”

His eyelashes trembled lightly as Lu Yichen opened his eyes. Gu Xiaonuan noticed the bloodshot veins in his eyes.

He’d been busy all night.

She frowned slightly, opened the car door, and got out.

The door on the other side opened as well. Gu Xiaonuan gently patted Lu Yichen’s cheek.

Lu Yichen opened his eyes, reached out his arm to wrap around her neck, and nuzzled closer.

Out of the corner of her eye, Gu Xiaonuan saw the marks hidden beneath his clothes. Her hand moved to the back of his head, gently stroking it as if soothing a large animal.

“I don’t want to go.”

Lu Yichen murmured, and as Gu Xiaonuan stroked his hair, she noticed that he actually seemed to be in a pretty good mood.

“Then I’ll go and turn them down.”

Lu Yichen nuzzled against her again, reached out to unbuckle his seatbelt, and as Gu Xiaonuan shifted to the side, he got out of the car.

He yawned, and as soon as he stepped out, he lazily leaned into her again. Gu Xiaonuan stretched out her arm and wrapped it around his slender waist.

“Yichen!”

Xiang Kaixi hurried over, sweating profusely. No matter how many times she touched up her delicate makeup, she couldn’t save it, while Gu Xiaonuan, who had only applied a layer of sunscreen, looked fresh-faced.

Her clothes clung uncomfortably to her from walking briskly for so long and sweating.

Xiang Kaixi kept a bright, confident smile on her face. She glanced at the intimate way Gu Xiaonuan was holding Lu Yichen, acting as if she hadn’t noticed at all.

“The venue is at the art museum in the center; we still need to walk a bit. Yichen, are you tired?” Xiang Kaixi walked to Lu Yichen’s side and reached out to support him.

Gu Xiaonuan hugged Lu Yichen and took a step back, dodging her outstretched hand.

“Let’s go, then.” Gu Xiaonuan gave Xiang Kaixi a smile. “It’s fine, I can help him.”

Lu Yichen directly put his arm around Gu Xiaonuan’s shoulders, casting a sidelong glance at Xiang Kaixi standing to the side. “We’ll follow you, let’s go.”

“All right.” Xiang Kaixi smiled, glanced at Gu Xiaonuan’s outfit, and turned to walk ahead. “I really didn’t expect Miss Gu to come along too. The spots for this salon are limited-we only have two spots.”
Gu Xiaonuan walked behind, letting Lu Yichen lean half his body against her. “You can go with him, I’ll wait outside.”

Xiang Kaixi turned around, suddenly at a loss for words.

How was she supposed to respond to that? She didn’t even get a chance to mock her outfit-this woman was on a whole other level!

The three of them walked for over ten minutes before a giant egg-shaped art museum appeared, with several exhibition introductions displayed at the entrance.

Lu Yichen gently yawned and gave Gu Xiaonuan a quick hug. “I’ll go in first.”

“I’ll just sit at the entrance and wait for you. If anything happens, just call me.” The small face under the baseball cap looked up at him. Lu Yichen smiled and nodded before letting go.

Xiang Kaixi hurried to catch up, and Lu Yichen smiled, “Thank you, I’m feeling much better now.”

Watching the two of them walk inside, Gu Xiaonuan chose a shaded spot and sat down, lowering her baseball cap slightly.

Gu Xiaonuan leaned back against the chair and closed her eyes.

The sound of wind, the rustling of trees, the noise of insects turning the soil-all of it entered her hearing with crystal clarity at that moment.

“Hahaha-!”

Suddenly, a child’s laughter rang out, followed by a thud as a little boy fell right in front of Gu Xiaonuan.

Gu Xiaonuan, sitting there, opened her eyes and stared at the boy who had fallen at her feet. She said nothing, nor did she make any move to help.

She just sat there, her eyes icy cold.

The little boy looked into her eyes and suddenly burst into loud sobs.

His mother rushed over in a panic, helping her child up and looking at Gu Xiaonuan with suspicion, as if asking what she had done to her child.

The boy was badly frightened, clinging to his mother and sobbing uncontrollably. The mother looked up, “What did you do to my child?”

Gu Xiaonuan raised an eyebrow, her eyes meeting the boy’s gaze once again.

“Mom! She’s scary! She scared me!”

The boy clung tightly to his mother, crying and shouting, and the commotion quickly drew a crowd.

Gu Xiaonuan sighed. Aside from necessary social interactions, she really didn’t want to deal with others. She put on her professional fake smile.

“I’ve been sitting here the whole time. If I did anything to your child, wouldn’t you be the first to see it?” Gu Xiaonuan pointed to a surveillance camera not far away. “If you don’t believe me, you can check the footage yourself.”

The mother glanced at her child, then looked up at the camera. Gu Xiaonuan smiled, “If that’s not enough, you can call the police. I’ll fully cooperate with any investigation.”

The mother glared fiercely at Gu Xiaonuan, picked up her child, and left.

Gu Xiaonuan pressed down her baseball cap and leaned back again. Ever since her heart stopped beating, so-called emotions had almost entirely faded away.

Anger, joy, sadness-she had forgotten them all.

Her cold body and this stopped heart were like a lake frozen forever. No matter how turbulent the undercurrents below, the surface would always be silent.

“With such poor survival camouflage, I’m really curious-without Xiang Nan, how long could you last?”

Gu Xiaonuan suddenly raised her face, a flush of blood quickly flooding her eyes, even revealing the fangs in her mouth.

Gong Lin stood before her, removing his sunglasses and gently lifting her chin.

“Can’t even hide your fangs. Xiang Nan didn’t teach you well, did he?”
