Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 46
Gu Xiaonuan was awakened by a ray of light filtering through the curtains.
The light wasn’t intense, but it made Gu Xiaonuan feel as if a small flame was burning on her body. She shifted slightly, only then realizing she was still in Lu Yichen’s arms.
He was half-reclining against the headboard, his back propped up by a raised pillow. She lay face-down in his embrace, his arm draped across her waist.
A thin blanket covered them both. Gu Xiaonuan caught sight of the bite marks on his bare upper body.
Instinctively, she propped herself up with her arms. When she discovered that he was still wearing pants below the waist, she let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, she thought, at least I only bit the top half.
Lu Yichen was awakened by her movements, his eyes still hazy from sleep. He pressed Gu Xiaonuan back into his arms, holding her close again.
“Morning,” he murmured, his voice slightly hoarse. His face lingered with affection as he gently nuzzled her hair, slipping his hand beneath the thin blanket to softly stroke her chilly skin.
“I’m going to check on Xiang Kaixi.” Gu Xiaonuan wriggled out of his embrace, bending to pick up her discarded pajamas from the floor.
Her graceful figure formed a semi-circle in Lu Yichen’s eyes. He reached out and draped his own pajama top over her shoulders.
Wrapped entirely in his pajamas, Gu Xiaonuan was enveloped in his scent, which made her feel as if she was still being held by him.
“There’s blood on your pajamas. It wouldn’t be good if someone saw.”
Lu Yichen spoke softly, getting out of bed to stand beside her. Seeing her petite figure swallowed up in his pajamas, he chuckled, “This is good. Go ahead.”
“What about you? Are you going out bare-chested?” Gu Xiaonuan glanced at the bite marks she’d left on his body. They were small and shallow-hard to notice unless you looked closely.
But there were just so many.
“I brought my luggage over already.”
Gu Xiaonuan turned and saw his backpack in the corner, nodded, and slipped out the door. She walked on the soft carpet in the corridor and opened the door to the room she shared with Xiang Kaixi.
There were a few small, dried bloodstains on the carpet-nothing a human would notice.
Gu Xiaonuan sniffed the lingering scent of blood in the air and saw Xiang Kaixi lying on the bed, still wearing the bloodstained pajamas from last night.
The pajamas were translucent here and there. Only then did Gu Xiaonuan realize Xiang Kaixi had dressed seductively. Considering how she’d gone to see Lu Yichen dressed like that last night, her intentions were all too clear.
Gu Xiaonuan watched her for a while, then quickly tore off her pajamas, noticed Xiang Kaixi’s suitcase was open, and randomly found some clothes to put on her.
Xiang Kaixi woke up while Gu Xiaonuan was changing her clothes. She rubbed her eyes, “Miss Gu?”
“You’re awake. Go have some breakfast.”
Gu Xiaonuan balled up the torn, bloodstained pajamas and inconspicuously stuffed them into her own backpack.
Xiang Kaixi yawned. “There’s a seminar this morning. We’ll be leaving after that. Brother Yichen…”
Her voice caught abruptly. She sat dumbfounded on the bed, as if startled by something, shook her head, and walked into the bathroom.
“Ah! What happened to my neck!” Xiang Kaixi came out holding her neck, where a wound ran between two bite marks, connecting them in a line.
Gu Xiaonuan raised her eyebrows. Did Lu Yichen make that scratch? That way, the bite marks were completely covered.
“You fell and scraped yourself when you got back last night,” Gu Xiaonuan said, taking off Lu Yichen’s pajama top and quickly changing into her own clothes. “It’s best to keep that covered today.”
“I think I remember now. Of course I’ll cover it-this is so ugly! Will it leave a scar…” Xiang Kaixi walked back into the bathroom, completely accepting Gu Xiaonuan’s explanation.
The morning seminar lasted for three hours, and this field trip ended successfully. On the bus ride back, Lu Yichen went straight to the last row.
He seemed a bit tired, just as he had been on the way there, his baseball cap pulled low over his face as he leaned back in his seat.
The others all took seats toward the front. When Xiang Kaixi boarded, she glanced at Lu Yichen in the back, shivered suddenly, and sat down in the very first row.
“Kaixi, Lu Yichen is in the back, and there’s no one else there. Aren’t you going to sit with him?” The person who had given her the room number whispered, “Isn’t this a good opportunity?”
Xiang Kaixi shook her head, not even daring to look back. Just thinking of Lu Yichen made her inexplicably afraid, a fear she couldn’t shake off.
She didn’t understand why she was so scared of such a handsome man, but she… was just afraid.
Gu Xiaonuan came up, surprised to see Xiang Kaixi sitting at the front, but said nothing and walked straight to the back, sitting down next to Lu Yichen.
The man leaned gently toward her, resting his head on her shoulder.
On the way back, Lu Yichen seemed to fall asleep.
His head, resting on Gu Xiaonuan’s shoulder, slowly slid downward with the swaying of the bus.
It was afternoon, the drowsiest time of day.
The air conditioning was set to a comfortable temperature, and everyone was feeling sleepy.
Gu Xiaonuan shifted slightly, letting Lu Yichen lie sideways across her lap. She gazed out the window at the passing scenery, her hand resting lightly on Lu Yichen’s body.
Lying on her lap, Lu Yichen found her other hand and placed it beside his cheek, gently rubbing against it.
Gu Xiaonuan looked down at him, letting him do as he pleased, then turned her gaze back to the window.
Sitting in the front, Xiang Kaixi peeked her head out and glanced back.
Gu Xiaonuan was seated in the very middle of the back row, and at that moment, Lu Yichen was lying across her lap.
Lu Yichen’s baseball cap hid his entire face, and Xiang Kaixi could only see his handsome jawline.
The man lying there seemed to notice something, and the corners of his mouth lifted in a smile.
Xiang Kaixi’s eyes widened slowly.
He seemed to have seen her.
Xiang Kaixi felt as if something had struck her, something exploded in her mind, and the fear that surged up was uncontrollable. She took out her phone and quickly sent several messages.
Gu Xiaonuan hadn’t expected Xiang Kaixi to leave.
She left swiftly and decisively, even fleeing abroad.
“Miss Gu, I’m truly sorry. I have some personal matters to attend to and have caused you trouble during this time.”
Gu Xiaonuan sat at her computer, reading the message from Xiang Kaixi, and replied.
“It’s fine. We can get in touch again when you have time.”
Gu Xiaonuan put her phone aside. Xiang Kaixi had left so quickly, like a frightened rabbit bolting away.
“What are you thinking about, not even reading my manuscript?” Lu Yichen pushed the door open and walked in. He wore light-colored loungewear, rimless glasses perched on his nose, his smile warm and harmless.
Gu Xiaonuan looked at him. Lu Yichen actually looked more like a rabbit.
“Xiang Kaixi resigned.”
Gu Xiaonuan rubbed her temples. “Did she tell you about it?”
“No. When did she leave?”
Lu Yichen leaned against the doorframe, took out his phone, and smiled meaningfully.
“She deleted me.”
