Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 53
Chapter 53
“Mr. Li, she isn’t even fifty years old yet.” Ji Xiangnan’s voice drifted over. He looked at Gu Xiaonuan, who stood there plainly stunned, and sighed. “Don’t tease the kid.”
“Not even fifty? So young.” The fangs slid back, and those eyes returned to a deep, clear blue. “Of course we can bite our Fellow Kin. It’s just that there’s no flavor in it.”
After speaking, he winked at Gu Xiaonuan and reached over to ruffle her hair.
When he pulled his hand back, the owner of those blue eyes seemed to catch a scent. He lifted his fingers to his nose, then stuck out the tip of his tongue and licked them.
“Looks like the little one’s had some pretty good food.”
That single line made Gu Xiaonuan clamp her hand around her own wrist. She was shaking.
“If you need it, Mr. Li, I can provide food far beyond a child’s taste,” Ji Xiangnan said. “I’ve tried it too. The flavor… is average.”
The Blond Man’s lips curled. “Oh?”
“Yes. If you want, I can bring you the food she’s eaten.” Ji Xiangnan’s words made Gu Xiaonuan lower her head even more.
“Competing with a child for food-oh, no.” The Blond Man chuckled as he walked off with Ji Xiangnan. Gu Xiaonuan shivered, only then realizing she was drenched in sweat.
An eight-hundred-year-old vampire-honed and tempered by time-was terrifying.
“Scared?” Sherry came over. Gu Xiaonuan jolted back to herself at her voice, only to realize that Ji Xiangnan and the elder Vampire had already gone far away.
“That’s the power of time. For the Blood Clan, the longer you live, the more you become like a black hole.” Sherry studied Gu Xiaonuan’s dazed expression. “Kid, getting attached to your food is the stupidest thing you can do.”
Gu Xiaonuan stared at her in shock. “I didn’t…”
Sherry walked off with the corner of her mouth tilted up, leaving Gu Xiaonuan standing there alone.
A black hole… having lost every last emotion, living on in cold loneliness. Even if they relied on their Fellow Kin, they still couldn’t feel any warmth.
Gu Xiaonuan pressed a hand to her chest. But… because of Lu Yichen, she’d felt her heart ache. Was that… fake too?
That night, Ji Xiangnan brought Mr. Li back to his own nest, while Gu Xiaonuan went straight back to her old place.
When she pushed the door open, she didn’t see Lu Yichen.
Had he not returned yet, or… had he been intercepted on the way?
Gu Xiaonuan spun around to dash outside, but Lu Yichen came out of the bathroom and reached out to catch her by the wrist. “Where are you going?”
Gu Xiaonuan turned back, staring at him blankly.
Lu Yichen smiled as he stepped closer and lifted her into his arms. “What’s wrong? You look like you’re terrified I’ll vanish.”
He laughed softly as he held her, his hand sliding to her waist-perfectly outlined by the dress. He didn’t catch even the faintest trace of blood, and that surprised him.
“A gathering of the Vampire Clan, and nobody drank blood?”
“You know my fangs can’t bite anyone.”
“No, I mean the other vampires. There isn’t even a hint of blood on you.” Lu Yichen set her down, then noticed how absent her gaze was. “Xiaonuan?”
Gu Xiaonuan reached back for the zipper of her formal dress. Lu Yichen reached out and gently pulled the tiny zipper down, and the smooth, luminous white of her skin was fully exposed.
Right in front of him, Gu Xiaonuan slipped out of the dress.
At first she really had been a little uncomfortable, but their long, intimate closeness had already made her start to get used to it.
In the darkness of the night, the man squinted at her body, watching her fingers gently undo the next button.
Lu Yichen averted his gaze, seeing her discarded underwear on the floor and her small feet as she stepped into the bedroom. A moment later, she emerged wearing pajamas.
All her things were still in this house; she had only been gone for a few months.
She picked up the clothes from the floor and tossed them onto the sofa before curling herself into the cushions, still appearing somewhat dazed.
Lu Yichen sat down beside her and let out a yawn. “If you want to sit here, can I hold you like this while I sleep?”
He leaned his weight against her, and Gu Xiaonuan gave a soft hum of affirmation, habitually leaning into his embrace. “Today, an 800-year-old elder Vampire arrived.”
Lu Yichen’s dark eyes, which had just closed, slowly drifted open. “800 years old? That’s a real antique. Let me think… over 800 years ago, that would be the Song Dynasty.”
“He’s from Europe, with blonde hair and blue eyes. The Old Man said he’s the master of a castle.”
Lu Yichen’s brows quirked up slightly. “An aristocrat. But in Europe 800 years ago, life wasn’t exactly easy for the nobility.”
“Is that so…” Gu Xiaonuan murmured. She was still shaken by the elder Vampire’s oppressive presence-his fangs, those eyes.
“Compared to him, 300-year-old Ji Xiangnan is still a youngster,” Lu Yichen chuckled. “An 800-year-old elder Vampire… you probably don’t see them very often.”
“No. Compared to the birthplace of the Vampire Clan, they are even rarer in this country.” Gu Xiaonuan turned her head slightly. “Lu Yichen, you lived abroad, right?”
Holding her tight, Lu Yichen closed his eyes again. “Mm. I was born in this country, but I was taken abroad to live when I was a child.”
“Abroad… there are churches, right?” Gu Xiaonuan whispered. Lu Yichen hummed in response. “Of course. God’s followers are everywhere.”
“What about you? Are you one too?”
Lu Yichen shifted his head slightly. “Me? I suppose so, but I’m not devout.”
Gu Xiaonuan lowered her dark eyes. “Is that why you carry a crucifix?”
Lu Yichen opened his eyes and pulled her closer into his arms. “So you saw it.”
The small figure in his arms nodded, and Lu Yichen yawned again. “When I lived abroad, I had to go to church every week for prayer. My mother was a very devout believer.”
“That crucifix you saw is something I’ve always kept with me.” Lu Yichen rubbed his head against her shoulder. “I only kept it because I knew it wouldn’t hurt you.”
Recalling the elder Vampire’s reaction when he caught Lu Yichen’s scent, Gu Xiaonuan pressed her cold hand against the arm he had wrapped around her waist. “Keep it on you at all times.”
“Alright, whatever you say.”
Lu Yichen’s voice was thick with exhaustion. “Xiaonuan, I still prefer sleeping in a bed. How about I carry you to the room?”
He acted like a large animal, nuzzling and wheedling behind her. Gu Xiaonuan turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck, letting Lu Yichen lift her up.
On the soft bed, he buried his head against her chest, his arms encircling her waist.
Soon, the sound of steady, shallow breathing filled the air.
Gu Xiaonuan sighed softly. As long as he wasn’t discovered, everything would be fine.
