Chapter 59

The heat from Lu Yichen’s palm radiated clearly through her skin. It felt as though a small fire was burning in his hand, and Gu Xiaonuan had the illusion that the heart he was pressing against had taken on his temperature.

“You…” Gu Xiaonuan was about to move when his arm wound around her. He was like a net, enveloping her tightly from behind, leaving her unable to move.

“Did it hurt here when you saw me leaning on someone else just now?”

Lu Yichen pressed his hand down firmly, his lips grazing her earlobe. His breath swept across the back of her ear, and Gu Xiaonuan squirmed in his arms, trying to escape.

“Don’t move.”

His warm palm exerted pressure against her chest, pressing her entire body back into his embrace.

The wound on his arm was right in front of her. As Gu Xiaonuan watched him strain his arm, she saw the flesh beneath the wound threaten to tear further.

“Xiaonuan, answer me.”

He spoke, his warm breath puffing against her neck as he rested his head on her shoulder. “Tell me, did it make you feel uncomfortable?”

“…I don’t know.”

Sitting in his lap, Gu Xiaonuan spoke softly. “I can’t clearly explain the feeling. By the time I snapped out of it, I was already here.”

Resting behind her shoulder, Lu Yichen’s dark eyes looked down, staring at her waist where her clothes had been pulled aside, revealing pale, cold skin and the downward curve of her waist.

“Is that so?” Lu Yichen murmured, his voice sounding like it was caught in his throat. “Were you drawn here by my blood?”

Gu Xiaonuan frowned slightly. “That might be it.”

“But you didn’t bite me.” The hand pressed against her chest snaked upward beneath her clothes, emerging from her collar to gently cup her chin.

“Lu Yichen!”

Gu Xiaonuan grabbed his fingers as they poked toward her mouth. “Li is here. If he really takes an interest in you, I won’t even have a chance to help you escape!”

“What are you talking about? I only want to…” With a slight exertion of force, his fingers turned her face toward him, and his thin lips leaned in, pressing against hers.

After a soft kiss, he continued with a smile, “…kiss you.”

Gu Xiaonuan saw the smile playing on his lips and sighed. “If you’re fine, let’s go out. The scent of your blood is too strong in here.”

With a light chuckle, he withdrew his arm from inside her clothes. Whether it was intentional or not, the front clasp of Gu Xiaonuan’s bra popped open.

The sudden release of the clasp caught Gu Xiaonuan off guard. The man behind her wore a lingering smile as his fingers reached in once more.

Finding the loose clasp, he gently clicked it back together.

“Is that better?” He pulled her clothes back down and released her at the same time.

Gu Xiaonuan watched him sit on the bed, her ears flushing completely red. He pulled his white T-shirt straight off, exposing his lean, muscular chest.

There, several faint bite marks belonging to her were visible.

“Why are you taking your clothes off?” Gu Xiaonuan watched him toss the white T-shirt into the trash can with unerring accuracy. “Did it get blood on it?”

Thinking of the hand Taohua had used to grab his hem, Lu Yichen said softly, “Yeah. It’s dirty, so I have to throw it away.”

Looking up again, his cheeks were slightly flushed. “Could you help me buy a new shirt?”

Seeing his bare torso, Gu Xiaonuan’s breath hitched. She reached out, grabbed the bedsheet, and wrapped him up tightly.
“I’ll be right back.”

Gu Xiaonuan leaped out of the window and vanished from sight in an instant.

The man sitting on the bed, wrapped in several layers of sheets, let out a low chuckle. He looked at the discarded gauze on the floor, which was stained with small flecks of red.

Lu Yichen stared at the gauze, the corners of his mouth slowly curling upward.

Gu Xiaonuan returned quickly with a new shirt. She had leaped back out the window and was waiting for him directly outside the treatment center’s door.

When Lu Yichen pushed open the door and stepped out, the girl who had helped him inside earlier spoke up hurriedly. “Sir, are you alright now?”

“I’m fine, thank you.”

Lu Yichen walked out and, upon seeing Gu Xiaonuan, reached out to drape an arm over her shoulder, leaning into her.

The girl, who had intended to ask a few more questions, immediately understood the situation when she saw this. Her face flushed slightly as she backed away; how could a man like that not have a girlfriend?

She couldn’t help but look up and steal a few more glances.

Wait, why was the gauze on his arm gone? And… wasn’t he wearing different clothes?

Inside the infirmary where Lu Yichen had just been resting, the window creaked open, and a figure flashed inside.

Pale, slender fingers gently picked up the gauze that had been tossed aside with the other medical waste. The figure brought it to his nose and took a deep, lingering sniff.

A suppressed sigh escaped from deep within Li’s throat.

His dark red eyes stared at the gauze in his hand, and his tongue slowly licked across it.

Ah… the taste was truly exquisite.

The door opened, and the girl from before walked in. She froze when she saw the tall foreign man who had appeared out of nowhere.

“How did you…” She couldn’t help but look toward the open window. “Who are you…”

Those dark red eyes looked up, and the pupils within-clearly not human-constricted into thin black vertical slits.

At the sight of this, the girl opened her mouth to scream and tried to scramble away, but in the next second, she was pinned against the wall.

Thud!

The door was slammed shut by a gust of wind.

The fear in her eyes quickly faded. Leaning against the wall, the girl proactively tilted her head back, baring her neck.

Fangs sank deep, piercing her skin.

Li buried his face in her neck, gulping down mouthfuls of blood, yet the frenzy in his eyes only intensified.

The girl’s body slumped limply to the floor. Li extended his tongue to lick the blood from his lips. He had lived for eight hundred years, and the number of times he had encountered a high-quality human like Lu Yichen could be counted on one hand.

Food like that usually only had one fate.

They would be coveted by numerous vampires; even if the bite marks on their bodies disappeared, fresh ones would soon take their place.

“Xiang Nan, to think you’d share food like this with a child. What a waste,” Li murmured under his breath. His cold gaze swept over the girl sitting on the floor before he pushed the door open and walked out.

In the past, whenever he encountered such food, he either lacked the power to claim it or was always a step behind other members of the Blood Clan.

But now, he could.

Li strode outside with a smile. If he were to be the one to feast on such food, he might only be able to enjoy a single meal before it was gone. It really was a bit of a pity.

Thinking of Ji Xiangnan’s words, Li gave a soft laugh.

Even if it meant becoming a fugitive again, he was going to take a bite out of this human named Lu Yichen.
