Chapter 6

Bang!

With a muffled groan, Lu Yichen was pinned to the bed, his neck caught in a tight grip.

Gu Xiaonuan’s fingers pressed down hard, watching his features flush rapidly from lack of oxygen, listening to the sound of blood rushing through his body. Suddenly, she released her grip.

“Cough, cough!”

Lu Yichen coughed violently. Gu Xiaonuan retreated to the edge of the bed, the cross-shaped scar on her neck still tingling with the heat of a recent kiss.

Seeing how easily she could hurt him, Gu Xiaonuan’s pupils contracted. Annoyed, she kicked over the nearby chair.

If she lost control and he died, the Blood Contract would never be broken.

The phone rang. Gu Xiaonuan glanced at Lu Yichen, whose face was flushed from coughing, and, feeling irritated, pushed open the door and walked out.

Humans are truly fragile. If she hadn’t let go in time, would he have ended up like last time…!

The phone rang again, snapping Gu Xiaonuan out of her thoughts.

“Are you at the hospital? You haven’t left, have you?”

Ji Xiangnan’s cold, flat voice came from the other end. Gu Xiaonuan leaned against the wall and sighed softly, “Of course I wouldn’t leave. I’m not stupid enough to leave him on Fellow Kin territory.”

Gu Xiaonuan lifted her gaze slightly. Two Fellow Kin-a man and a woman-were lurking in the dark corner, seemingly waiting for an opportunity.

“Not too foolish, little one,” Ji Xiangnan teased. “You must have noticed, too, how Fellow Kin covet unclaimed food.”

Gu Xiaonuan hummed in response, blood-red hues swirling in her eyes. If the Old Man hadn’t been around earlier, with her not even fifty years old, she would have been robbed long ago.

“He’s not ordinary food. If other Fellow Kin make a move on him and he dies by accident, Xiaonuan, you know what that means for you.”

Her grip on the phone tightened unconsciously. Gu Xiaonuan took a deep breath. Ji Xiangnan’s voice gradually cooled her earlier irritation. Listening to the faint hisses of bloodlust around her, she whispered, “Understood. I’ll do it right away.”

She hung up and pushed the door open.

Lu Yichen was leaning against the hospital bed, the flush on his cheeks not yet faded. Seeing her changed demeanor, he spoke, “Miss Gu, I…”

Gu Xiaonuan just looked at him, then let out a heavy sigh.

Her pale fingers were pierced by her sharp fangs, dark red blood flowing from her fingertip, which she held out to Lu Yichen.

Lu Yichen’s face instantly reddened. “What are you doing?”

“Drink my blood. With my blood’s scent in you, the other Fellow Kin will know who you belong to.”

Gu Xiaonuan moved her finger closer, noticing he still didn’t react, and frowned slightly.

Not allowing Lu Yichen to refuse, she leaned forward, grabbed his chin, and forced his mouth open.

Red spread across the man’s pale face. He seemed to resist, but her slender, cold fingers pressed in directly.

The pungent scent of blood exploded in Lu Yichen’s mouth. Gu Xiaonuan’s pretty face remained cold, her movements forceful, pressing his tongue to make sure he swallowed.

“If you don’t want to die, drink it obediently.”

The girl’s blood-red eyes stared at him. Lu Yichen’s long lashes trembled, his eyes growing misty with moisture.

Gulp.

Hearing him swallow, Gu Xiaonuan finally withdrew her finger, wiped the clear liquid off on Lu Yichen’s clothes.

Lu Yichen sat there, blushing, looking like a bride forced into submission.

Gu Xiaonuan saw his expression and sighed inwardly. Now was not the time for such sentimentality.

“Can you walk?”

Listening to the noises around her, Gu Xiaonuan glanced at the slow-moving man on the bed, clicked her tongue, and reached out her cold arm.
One arm wrapped around his knee, the other around his back.

With a burst of strength, the petite Gu Xiaonuan lifted the tall Lu Yichen into her arms.

“Miss Gu, what are you-!”

“Hold on tight,” Gu Xiaonuan said coldly, her eyes landing on the man whose blush now colored even his neck. Her brows twitched sharply.

Bang!

With a powerful kick, Gu Xiaonuan forced the door open. Though she was carrying the six-foot-tall Lu Yichen in a princess carry, her speed didn’t drop at all, as if she were holding nothing heavier than a kitten or puppy.

Swish swish!

Two shadows shot up in the darkness-far too fast for human eyes to see what they were.

“Hold on tight. Don’t fall.”

Gu Xiaonuan spoke in a low voice, darting nimbly with Lu Yichen in her arms. The man she was carrying, his dark eyes flashing, instinctively tightened his hold around her neck.

So tight that his throbbing artery pressed right against Gu Xiaonuan’s lips.

“Move your neck away!”

Gu Xiaonuan roared, lifting her leg and fiercely kicking at the air!

Bang!

One of the shadows crashed straight to the ground, knocking over an entire row of chairs.

“Are those… your Fellow Kin?”

The man’s handsome face lifted a little, shifting as he glanced at Gu Xiaonuan’s icy profile. Her gaze was like a torch, and her arms around him were strong and steady-as if… she was protecting him.

Holding Lu Yichen, Gu Xiaonuan charged for the door at the end of the corridor, the other shadow chasing close behind.

Click!

The sound of fangs baring.

A hand shot out forcefully from behind, lunging straight for Lu Yichen’s head.

Even longer fangs leapt out of the darkness!

Bang!

A seemingly delicate fist struck that face squarely!

The shadow crashed to the ground in disarray, letting out a tremendous noise.

Gu Xiaonuan bent down to pick Lu Yichen up again, then dashed like the wind to the door at the corridor’s end.

The two shadows struggled up from the ground, their blood-red eyes fixed on Gu Xiaonuan’s retreating figure as she walked through the door, but could only give up.

“…It’s over.”

Gu Xiaonuan watched the shadows vanish on the other side of the door, then finally let out a long sigh of relief. Lu Yichen, still in her arms, gave a muffled grunt, his arm still tightly wrapped around her neck, with no intention of getting down.

Feeling his trembling, Gu Xiaonuan sighed inwardly and continued carrying him all the way down the stairs.

“Were they… fighting over food just now?”

Lu Yichen’s head was buried in the crook of her neck as he asked in a low voice. Gu Xiaonuan hummed in response. Noticing how hard he was struggling to keep one arm wrapped around her, she explained gently, “It’s basically a rule. Vampires who can’t leave that floor with their own food aren’t qualified to eat alone.”

“Is this your first time doing this? Protecting your own food?”

Gu Xiaonuan didn’t answer, already carrying him down to the first floor. She glanced down at him. “Still not getting down? You can walk by yourself now, can’t you?”

The man’s fair skin flushed red again. He lifted his handsome face, his gentle dark eyes tinged with a hint of shyness. “Miss Gu, my legs are weak. I’m really sorry.”

Gu Xiaonuan paused, then sighed softly and simply carried him straight out of the stairwell.

Though this was a private hospital associated with the Blood Clan, it also served humans.

A beautiful, cold-faced woman walking out in a princess carry with a tall, slender man was definitely eye-catching.

In the lobby, everyone’s eyes couldn’t help but follow them.

Gu Xiaonuan kept her gaze straight ahead, her temples throbbing again and again.

What are you staring at? Haven’t you ever seen a princess carry before!
