Chapter 8

“Why aren’t you watching your own food? What are you doing here?”

In Ji Xiangnan’s home, Gu Xiaonuan curled up on the sofa, her small body huddled into a ball, face buried in the cushions like a frightened little animal.

Ji Xiangnan, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, irritably yanked off his tie. “Xiaonuan, did you hear what I said?”

His long, narrow, almond-shaped eyes stared at the unmoving figure on the sofa. He sighed.

“Is he still in the hospital?”

Gu Xiaonuan murmured a response, “But he should be almost recovered by now.”

It had been five days since she fled in panic that day. Gu Xiaonuan hadn’t gone to see him again. No matter how parched her throat was, no matter how hungry she became, she never went to find him.

“He is your food now, and he means more than that. I don’t need to teach you any further, do I?”

Ji Xiangnan walked over, his cold, temperatureless hand lifting her from the sofa without allowing any resistance. “If you don’t want to be trapped forever, keep a close watch on him.”

Gu Xiaonuan was weakly hoisted up, her fangs exposed, her throat so dry it felt as if it were burning. The blood-red color in her eyes was so intense it seemed blood might flow from them.

The moment Ji Xiangnan saw her, his brows furrowed tightly. He pulled her right in front of him. “How many days has it been since you last drank blood?”

“…Five days.”

Gu Xiaonuan replied feebly, “I don’t want to become too dependent on my food.”

Ji Xiangnan narrowed his eyes. “So you’ve been holding out until now? And you still want to keep holding out?”

Gu Xiaonuan nodded. Ji Xiangnan looked at her in this state, let out a cold laugh, and tossed her back onto the sofa.

He opened the fridge and threw a blood bag directly into Gu Xiaonuan’s hands.

As if she couldn’t control herself, Gu Xiaonuan tore into the blood bag with her mouth, gulping it down in big swallows. She no longer sipped delicately as before; now she was like a ravenous, irritable beast that hadn’t eaten in days.

Blood gushed from the bag, spilling onto her hands and body.

Gulp, gulp.

Blood flowed into her mouth, into her body, but the hunger was not eased in the slightest.

Gu Xiaonuan suddenly looked up, her face confused as she stared at Ji Xiangnan.

The 300-year-old Vampire looked at her coldly, walked over, and took the torn blood bag from her hands. “Have I not told you? Besides him, you can’t drink any other blood.”

Gu Xiaonuan, her face smeared with blood, stared at the blood bag. Yes, she had drunk the blood, swallowed it, but it was as if she had never eaten at all. Her throat, though rinsed with fresh blood, was still parched!

“Your hunger-only he can satisfy it.”

Ji Xiangnan looked at Gu Xiaonuan, her face and body covered in blood, his gaze icy. “Do you want your foolish persistence to make you bite him to death next time?”

“Just like twenty years ago.”

These words snapped Gu Xiaonuan back to her senses. She stared blankly at the blood in her hands. This used to be enough to fill her stomach, but now… she didn’t want it at all.

“Do I need to teach you how terrifying a Vampire Clan member is after days without feeding?” Ji Xiangnan said, pulling Gu Xiaonuan up. “Change your clothes before you go. You’re filthy.”

Once again appearing at the hospital, Gu Xiaonuan, unable to control herself, pushed open the door to Lu Yichen’s ward. He had already changed out of his hospital gown, the cast on his arm removed, now simply bandaged and hanging across his chest.

Seeing her appear, Lu Yichen smiled. “Are you here to pick me up?”

In Gu Xiaonuan’s ears, his voice was soft and faint, as if drifting from far away. Five days of relentless hunger left her able to hear only the sound of his heartbeat.

Thump, thump, as if saying, come on, bite me.

“You haven’t replied to my messages these past few days. Have you been busy?” Lu Yichen walked over with a smile. “Did you come because you saw my message?”

As he approached, Gu Xiaonuan could barely make out his features. In her red-tinged vision, only the blood vessels beneath his skin stood out, each one pulsing vividly.

Biting into the spot where the blood surged fastest-surely, that would be delicious.
“Miss Gu?”

Lu Yichen called softly. Gu Xiaonuan lifted her head slightly, and the man saw those blood-red eyes, instantly understanding something.

Especially her unconscious swallowing motion-Lu Yichen’s body trembled lightly.

“Not yet, hold on…!”

Her cold hand touched his neck, carrying the same chill. Gu Xiaonuan pressed herself against him.

Outside the hospital room, a shadow passed by. The man reached out and pushed open the bathroom door, carrying Gu Xiaonuan inside.

In the cramped bathroom, the man’s lean waist pressed against the cold sink. In the mirror, Gu Xiaonuan’s blood-red eyes glimmered with wicked charm, her fangs exposed as she bit down on his neck.

“Mmm!”

Her fangs pierced much deeper this time. Lu Yichen couldn’t help but hold her tighter, a blush quickly spreading across his cheeks.

He could feel his warm blood flowing from the wound, caught by her lips and tongue, sent into her mouth.

The woman in his arms was soft, yet utterly without warmth.

Lu Yichen’s arms encircled her slender waist, pulling her closer. His warmth couldn’t reach her body-only the heated blood could.

“Mr. Lu, are you ready? All the discharge procedures are done.”

The nurse’s voice sounded outside, her figure passing by the frosted glass of the bathroom. Lu Yichen listened to the sound of blood being swallowed beside his ear-Gu Xiaonuan was still feeding, unwilling to leave.

Face flushed, the man spoke softly, “Thank you, I just have a bit… mm.”

Perhaps displeased at being interrupted, Gu Xiaonuan’s fangs dug in sharply. Lu Yichen let out a muffled groan.

“Mr. Lu, is your wrist still uncomfortable?”

The nurse stood outside the door. Lu Yichen reached out, gently stroking Gu Xiaonuan’s black hair, breathing lightly, “It’s fine, I can handle it myself. Thank you.”

“Alright, I’ll leave you to it.”

The nurse walked away. Gu Xiaonuan slowly lifted her head, her hunger finally sated, the blood she drank in her thirst tasting like long-awaited sweet rain.

Gu Xiaonuan was a little dazed, lying in the man’s warm embrace, breathing softly, unable to recover her senses.

The craving for food, the intense desire for the only sustenance.

The Old Man was right-if she kept insisting like this, would she completely lose control next time and bite him to death?

Did she drink too much just now?

Coming back to herself, Gu Xiaonuan tried to pull away. “Are you alright? I might’ve…!”

The man’s hand pressed her waist, his arms holding her, his head resting gently on her shoulder.

“Don’t move. Let me hold you like this for a while.”

“Are you feeling faint?”

Lu Yichen chuckled softly, his forehead against her shoulder. Seeing she didn’t refuse, he simply leaned his whole body against her. “…Mm.”

Gu Xiaonuan thought he really was faint, and quickly supported his full weight. “What did you say to me just now? You’re being discharged today, right?”

Lu Yichen replied weakly, “Weren’t you here to pick me up?”

Gu Xiaonuan’s voice caught, after a moment, “…Yes.”

The Old Man had investigated Lu Yichen-he had no relation to any Fellow Kin. As a human, he couldn’t possibly know about the Blood Contract.

It was all truly accidental, for her and for him.

Gu Xiaonuan wrapped her arms around Lu Yichen. “Still can’t stand?” Only his blood could satisfy her; she ought to do something for her food.

Gu Xiaonuan frowned slightly. Getting along well was nice.

He never resisted her feeding, which, for the Blood Clan, made him a rare source of sustenance.

“Not yet. Let me rest a bit longer.”

Lu Yichen leaned his whole body against her, still speaking weakly.

“Should I carry you out?”

The man laughed. He didn’t mind being carried like a princess again, but… he didn’t want to always be the one underneath.”
