The voice coming from the Snake Egg was milky and soft.

Yet, I felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over me, leaving me chilled to the bone.

My mother stood by the bed.

“Yu’er, give the egg to me. Before the Dragon Lord finds out, I’ll take him to the manor and have the servants raise him properly.”

“If you miss him in the future, you can go and see him in secret.”

As she spoke, she tried to snatch the Snake Egg from my hands.

“Who does Mother intend to give him to?”
