Chapter 2

“Sister, I assume you won’t try to snatch a Beastkin from me, will you?”

Gu Lingshuang stepped back, ceasing her defiance against our father.

However, her gaze remained fixed on me, as if she were terrified I might choose Jiang Yang again.

By doing this, she wanted to stake her claim on Jiang Yang early. If I fought her for him, she would simply use it as a pretext to play the victim.

I smiled faintly. “He’s a dying Beastkin. Why would I fight you for him?”

From the corner of my eye, I saw Jiang Yang’s face instantly turn pale. He looked at me with utter disbelief.

I found it somewhat amusing; apparently, rebirth could happen in groups these days.

Gu Lingshuang breathed a sigh of relief. She knew that if I truly wanted to compete with her, she stood no chance-at most, she could only make people gossip about me.

But I had never cared for such things.

“Then which Beastkin will you choose, Sister?”

Gu Lingshuang was genuinely curious. In this life, she had taken Jiang Yang, the most powerful of the lot. Who could Gu Xizhi possibly choose instead?

And what could she possibly train them to become?

Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, I raised my hand and pointed toward a corner where a dying female beastkin lay curled up.

“I want her.”

The room fell silent for a moment before erupting into an uproar. The people around me began whispering, urging me to reconsider.

After all, these were meant to be our future right-hand subordinates. Choosing such a frail Beastkin was simply impractical.

It was one thing to pick someone so weak, but she was also a female beastkin.

She looked like someone who had barely survived the Colosseum by sheer luck. It was uncertain if she could even be nursed back to health, and even if she survived, her body was likely permanently damaged.

Besides, could a female compare to a male? There was a massive gap in physical strength, combat prowess, and intelligence.

In the market, female beastkin were usually only valued for breeding. The lucky ones might live like humans, marrying and bearing children; the less fortunate were locked away in dark corners as mere birthing tools.

From birth to death, their sole purpose was to produce more powerful males.

In previous years, there hadn’t even been females at the selection. Why was there suddenly one this year?

Jiang Yang followed the direction of my finger. When he saw the female who posed no threat whatsoever, he frowned.

He seemed equally unable to comprehend why I had chosen her.

Father remained silent for a moment before asking, “Have you thought this through?”

I nodded.

In the corner, the female beastkin raised her head slowly, seemingly confused by the current situation.

She was covered in blood and filth, her original appearance obscured.

I rubbed the ring on my ring finger, recalling a piece of information I had overheard in my past life.

A female Snake Beastkin had once carved a bloody path out of the hellish Beast Arena to escape, only to return shortly after and slaughter every member of the arena’s upper management.

She eventually died under a heavy siege.

It was rare for a female beastkin to be so formidable. Out of pity and curiosity, I had looked into the matter.

Only then did I discover that she had actually appeared at our family’s selection event. The Beastkin here were all survivors of the Colosseum who possessed a certain level of ability.

After she left this place back then, she was captured and sent back to the Beast Arena to protect her mother’s clan. Originally intended as a breeding tool, she was thrown into the pit after killing a combat Beastkin trained by the arena.

Against all odds, she survived. Due to her status as a female, she gained immense popularity.

She fought her way through every obstacle and walked out of the Beast Arena alive, only to find that the arena’s people had captured her kin from her mother’s clan again.

One could guess with their toes that those people had no intention of letting her go.

I had been searching the crowd for that figure from my memory since the beginning, and I had finally found her in that corner.

There was a significant difference in build between males and females, and because of her severe injuries, her snake tail had already manifested.

Being so small, it was no wonder I hadn’t noticed her in my previous life.

Compared to the tall, burly male Beastkin surrounding her, she truly looked like a child who hadn’t yet grown up.
