In just an instant, Wen Song shifted her gaze and walked calmly toward the prep area.

One yuan per skewer, regardless of meat or vegetable-almost all the customers ordered meat dishes.

Wen Song walked to the prep area, her steps pausing slightly.

After a long deliberation, Wen Song finally found the words to describe the nature of this place.

The refrigerator here was not a refrigerator in the traditional sense. Rather… it was a “refrigerator” constructed from human bones.

The stark white bones had been thoroughly cleaned, with almost no bits of flesh remaining, only some faint white grease and minuscule scraps of meat barely visible upon close inspection.

Whoever made this had used strips of white binding tape to tie them together, forming a rectangular box shape.

On top of the box, a sheet of white human skin was draped across.

A human head-one that had once appeared in a holographic projection-stood upright above the refrigerator. Its eyes were already gone, leaving only two hollow round sockets.

There was clearly nothing inside, yet Wen Song felt as though something was staring straight at her through the skeleton.

Hee-hee.

A little girl was laughing.

Wen Song looked closely, but there was nothing there.

Something was wrong.

Wen Song gradually expanded her mental perception.

“What are you looking at?” At some unknown point, the Rat-Headed Man, who was busy handling bones, had appeared behind her.

He still held a bone cleaver raised high in his hand.

His beady rat eyes glinted with a greenish light in the gloomy kitchen.

If Wen Song’s answer gave him the slightest displeasure, she would be the next one lying on the chopping board.

Wen Song calmly reached into the “refrigerator,” pointing at two labels above that had been rubbed almost illegible.

“I was wondering if these two labels were placed in the wrong position.”

The Rat-Headed Man followed Wen Song’s finger, looked at the meat arranged below, and hesitated for a moment.

“Hmm, they really are in the wrong place. You put them back where they belong.”

With that, the Rat-Headed Man simply stood to the side, quietly watching Wen Song operate.

Wen Song lowered her head, looking at the piles of meat squirming on the plates. All of it had turned black and emitted a strange stench, yet moved as if alive, constantly waving their limbs-some even trying to crawl out and into other plates.

Under the Rat-Headed Man’s gaze, Wen Song very calmly grabbed the rotten meat trying to escape and threw it back onto its own plate.

Then she switched it with the plate next to it.

As a courtesy, she gave the wriggling meat another jab with a knife.

Dead meat should stay dead. No crawling allowed.

Her movements were skillful and fluid, without the slightest hint of fear or panic.

“Boss, is this alright?” She even consulted the boss for his opinion.

The Rat-Headed Man watched Wen Song’s actions. Whether it was just her imagination or not, a trace of fury flickered in his eyes-a kind of anger that wished to kill her, but could not.

A look of understanding flashed in Wen Song’s eyes.

So, that rule was correct-as long as you don’t break the logic of daily life inside Pollution Zone Seven, nothing will happen.

“Go serve the dishes!”

“Yes, Boss.”

Wen Song picked up the plate nearby. The plate was greasy-if she weren’t wearing gloves, she would never have touched these things.

Wen Song carried the plate to the front, seeing all the customers calmly place the meat onto the grill. Then, the moment the blackened meat touched the grill, it transformed into glistening, impossibly fresh cuts of meat.

The customers couldn’t wait, swallowing mouthful after mouthful as if savoring a gourmet feast.
Wen Song was grateful she had turned off her olfactory system and couldn’t smell that bizarre odor.

Passing the counter, Wen Song spotted a pink Peppa Pig exercise book, with a pencil adorned with a bow placed on top.

She asked casually, “Rat-Head Boss Lady, is this your daughter’s?”

When the Rat-Head Boss Lady heard Wen Song mention her daughter, a blissful smile immediately appeared on her face.

“Yes.”

Wen Song didn’t ask anything more. The barbecue shop was busy, and while the Rat-Head Couple were occupied, she quickly slipped toward the back of the shop.

Beyond the kitchen was a corridor, with three rooms on either side.

Wen Song opened the first room and entered. Inside was a very simple iron bunk bed, like an employee dormitory.

It matched the recruitment notice posted at the entrance.

Wen Song was about to check for anything unusual when, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glint of cold steel.

She bent down sharply, folding her body at an impossible angle. In the next moment, she pressed a knife straight against the neck of the person behind her.

With just a slight bit of force, the person in her grasp would have their carotid artery cut open instantly.

“Don’t, don’t kill me, don’t kill me!!!”

The man in front of her cried out, his body already collapsing uncontrollably to the floor.

A normal person.

Wen Song immediately let go of the man. He landed hard on the ground, his hand holding the knife trembling violently, eyes shut tight as he cried and shouted, too afraid to open them.

“If you scream again, I’ll kill you right now!” Wen Song warned.

If the Rat-Head Couple were alerted, none of them would survive!

The man heard Wen Song’s voice and, trembling, opened his eyes. The moment he saw Wen Song, it was as if he’d seen a savior. He grabbed her pant leg. “Save me, save me! They’re going to kill me! They already killed Granny Wang and Brother Sun! Save me!”

“Shut up!” Wen Song kicked him aside. “Is there anyone else here?”

The man’s face was as white as paper, sweat streaming down. “No, no one else.”

“Hide well.”

Wen Song gave him a look, then turned to continue searching for any valuable clues.

There had to be a reason for Pollution Zone Seven’s sudden expansion.

The employee dorm had nothing of note. Wen Song planned to check the other two rooms, but the man immediately grabbed her, terrified. “Where are you going? Are you leaving me here? I’m from the Northern Frontier! You can’t just leave me!”

Wen Song said impatiently, “If you want to live, hide well. When the door opens, someone will come save you.”

Chastised, the man shrank back, raising his hand to point at the other two rooms.

“Left-left is the Rat-Head Couple’s room. Right, right is a little girl’s room.”

At the mention of “little girl,” the man’s face turned even paler. “She-she said she wanted to play hide-and-seek with me. It was terrifying!”

A little girl.

“Got it. Hide well!” Without a moment’s hesitation, Wen Song left the room.

The man wanted to follow, but remembering something, he quickly retreated to his previous hiding spot.

Wen Song stood in the corridor, hesitated for a second, then immediately headed for the little girl’s room.

The barbecue shop’s Hello Kitty clock, the pink exercise book on the table, the pencil with a bow, and the laughter of a little girl heard from the kitchen-everything was so eerie.

Pushing open the door to the little girl’s room, Wen Song’s steps halted.

This place didn’t quite match the style of the barbecue shop.
