Seeing the people rushing in from outside, Wen Song looked at her cheap father with a calm and indifferent expression.

As expected, the role of a father is terrible, whether in the apocalypse or in this world.

“What do you mean by this?”

Wen Father’s voice was cold and heavy. “Before you go to the Northern Frontier, you are not allowed to leave this house, not even a step!”

Wen Song raised a faint smile. “How do you know I’m not going to the Northern Frontier?”

After speaking, Wen Song tapped open her Light Brain, and a ticket purchase confirmation appeared before everyone’s eyes.

A Flying Car ticket from the Empire Central District to the Northern Frontier.

Seeing the Flying Car ticket in front of them, everyone was stunned.

They hadn’t expected Wen Song to take the initiative to go to the Northern Frontier. They thought she would run away and had even considered using force to tie her up and take her there-anything to avoid disgracing the Wen Family.

Now, looking at this ticket, the sense of unreality lingered among them.

“You… are you really going to the Northern Frontier?” Wen Father looked at her with a doubtful gaze.

“Believe it or not.” Wen Song didn’t want to say more to them, so she bypassed the people in front of her and walked straight out.

It wasn’t until Wen Song left that the others finally snapped out of it.

“We’re just letting her go to the Northern Frontier alone? What if something happens on the way…” Wen Mother spoke slowly, worry flickering in her eyes. “And the Qin Family-”

“I’ve already sent her off. Whether she arrives safely or not has nothing to do with the Wen Family. After all, she’s just a C-class Guide. Even if she dies, the Qin Family can’t say a word!” Wen Father made the final decision, cruel and terrifying.

It was as if the person leaving was not the daughter they had raised for more than ten years, but someone who had nothing to do with them.

–

Wen Song didn’t board the Flying Car but chose to take the bus instead.

Flying Cars have strict security checks; any equipment she carried would be detected immediately.

She didn’t want her weapons and gear confiscated just as she stepped out the door.

“Northern Frontier! Northern Frontier! Get on and we go! Get on and we go!”

Skirting the main city district, Wen Song had just arrived at the bus station when she heard the loud calls.

There were already quite a few people seated on the bus.

“How much?” Wen Song asked.

“One hundred Empire Coins! Get on and we go!” The bearded man replied with a smile.

Wen Song opened her Light Brain. “Beep.”

One hundred Empire Coins transferred.

“Alright! Please get on!”

Wen Song boarded the bus. Even with the windows open, there was a stifling, indescribable smell inside.

Sweat, stench, all kinds of food odors mixed together.

Wen Song chose a window seat in the middle and placed her bag at her feet.

Outside, the bearded man was still shouting, “Northern Frontier! Northern Frontier! Get on and we go! Get on and we go!”

It wasn’t until an hour later that the bus finally started moving slowly.

“Mama, I’m scared.”

In the seat ahead to Wen Song’s left sat a mother and son. The boy buried his head in his mother’s arms, anxious. “Will we really see Daddy this time?”

The mother gently stroked the boy’s head, again and again. “We definitely will.”

The boy immediately broke into a happy smile. “Then I’ll show Daddy the little lion, little tiger, and little dolphin I made!”

“Alright.”

Wen Song turned her head and looked outside.

The bus passed through the Slum District, where the Green Tower stood at the very center of the Empire, and beyond that, the orderly Nobility District.

The bus moved smoothly along the way; it was clear the driver was experienced.

Every five hours, the bus stopped at a nearby station so passengers could use the restroom.

As evening approached, the driver’s expression was no longer as relaxed as before. He stopped the bus at a station. “If you need to use the restroom, go now. I won’t be stopping again until dawn.”
Upon hearing the driver say this, many passengers who hadn’t planned to use the restroom hurriedly got off the bus.

Wen Song’s gaze fell on the driver’s face. His expression darkened, as if he was constantly observing his surroundings.

“Mom, why don’t we stop at night?”

The little boy from before lowered his voice and asked quietly.

The Boy’s Mother pursed her lips and answered softly, “Because we’re far from home, and there are many bad people outside.”

When he heard the words “bad people,” the little boy’s eyes widened instantly.

His small arms stretched out. “I’ll protect Mom!”

The Boy’s Mother smiled with her eyes. “Then thank you, our little hero.”

Once all the passengers returned, the driver stepped on the gas, speeding forward.

Outside, the highway grew more and more desolate, perhaps because they were nearing the Northern Frontier. Wen Song could feel the chill in the air.

On the long, dark road, only the headlights of the bus remained lit.

Everything changed in an instant.

At the moment she heard the commotion, Wen Song snapped open her closed eyes, her fingers already gripping the dagger at her waist.

The cars on both sides of the road were like hunters lurking in the darkness, waiting for their prey to fall into the trap.

As soon as the prey arrived, all the headlights turned on at once.

“Screech-”

The sound of the bus tires scraping against the ground was especially piercing.

“Brothers! Please, all of you! My bus is full of people from the slums, we have no money! Please, have mercy and let us go!”

The bus driver’s face was so grim he was nearly in tears, his hands raised above his head.

He hadn’t expected to be so unlucky-his first trip this month, and he ran into these people!

“Get out of the way! Open the door!”

The people outside had already surrounded the bus, forcing the driver to open the door.

Screams erupted inside the bus.

“Hand over everything valuable you have! If you don’t cooperate, you’ll regret it!”

The leader boarded the bus, dressed in drab clothes and pants, holding a gun and pointing it at everyone.

“Don’t take my things! This is all I have! Ah!”

A man in front who tried to resist was violently knocked to the ground.

Others tried to fight back, but in the next second-“Bang.”

The man who stubbornly tried to snatch back his bag was shot in the center of his forehead, his eyes wide open as he collapsed heavily to the floor.

All sounds inside the bus vanished.

The Boy’s Mother suddenly covered the boy’s eyes, not letting him see, trembling all over in fear.

“Take all the women and children off the bus!”

The leader issued another order.

Soon, someone reached the spot where the Boy’s Mother and the boy sat. Seeing her face and the boy in her arms, the man immediately laughed.

“Take these two off the bus!”

“No! No!! I’ll give you everything! Take it all!!!”

The Boy’s Mother clung tightly to the boy in her arms, shrinking into the corner.

“It’s not up to you!” the man shouted.

Someone immediately came to drag the two away.

Suddenly, a fair hand grabbed the attacker’s arm. “I think knowing when to stop is a virtue. Don’t you agree?”

“Who do you think you-”

The man whipped his head around, meeting Wen Song’s gaze. A hint of greed flashed across his face.

“Fine, as long as you come off the bus with us, I’ll let these two go. How about it?”
