Love-Struck Fox Spirit - Chapter 4
Unexpectedly, the biggest obstacle turned out to be Jin Jiaxue himself.
No matter how much I tried to persuade him, he refused to go out with me, burying himself under the blanket.
I had planned to take things step by step-let him meet a few good people, and then, when the time was right, have a meal together.
But I ran into trouble at the very first step; he simply didn’t want to leave the house.
“What’s wrong with you? Weren’t you complaining about being hungry just a few days ago?” I asked him.
He protested quietly from under the blanket:
“The Fox Spirit business… doesn’t need you to interfere.”
Not understanding what he was sulking about, I leaned over and rubbed his head.
Logically, it shouldn’t be like this.
When a Fox Spirit is starving, he’ll instinctively go out to look for a ‘mate,’ but this natural urge seemed to have no effect on Jin Jiaxue at all.
Where did things go wrong?
I glanced at the clock. If I didn’t leave soon, my pay would be docked. Keeping a Fox Spirit at home meant running the heater all day, and I was already pinching pennies. If my wages got cut, I’d end up sleeping on the street.
I let go of the blanket he was clutching, and his tail-which had been resisting outside-finally drooped to the floor with a soft thud.
“I’m heading to work. If you get really hungry, just go out on your own, okay?” I said.
Jin Jiaxue, who had been struggling just moments before, suddenly quieted down, burying his head in the pillow without a word.
I opened the door and left quietly.
When a child refuses to eat, it’s usually because they’re spoiled. Let him go hungry for a meal, and he’ll be fine.
