Hua Suihe’s hand tightened around her phone instinctively. She slowly raised her phone and shone the flashlight upwards.

At the very top of the stairs, there was a vague human silhouette.

Su Sheng grabbed Hua Suihe’s arm, her eyes fixed on the dying ant above. She lowered her voice and feigned fear, “Hua Hua, don’t go…”

If they had hesitated three more seconds, the person above would have been torn into human shreds by the Anomaly.

But Hua Hua turned on her flashlight, so Su Sheng quickly drove the Anomaly away. That stupid, ugly creature didn’t even think to take the dead body along.

Hua Suihe turned her hand and took Su Sheng’s, leading her steadily up the stairs. As they got closer, the flashlight illuminated the injured man completely.

His abdomen had been gouged open by something unknown. His organs were exposed and twitching, covered in dirt, and fresh blood flowed down the steps. It turned out the smell in the stairwell wasn’t rust-it was the scent of his blood.

“Help me…” Driven by the instinct to survive, the player murmured unconsciously. In reality, his gaze was already vacant; he was beyond saving.

As Hua Suihe stood stunned, the phone’s flashlight was switched off, and darkness swallowed them once again.

“Hua Hua, don’t look.” Even though Su Sheng was pretending to be frightened, her tone still couldn’t conceal a trace of chill.

Black mist swirled out from all directions, like entangling threads, pouncing on the dying human like wolves and tigers, determined to wrap him up and devour him.

But in the next moment, a slender, fair hand pierced through the raging black fog, carrying the warmth and familiar scent that Su Sheng knew best, forcing her to halt her attempt to destroy the corpse. Delicate fingertips landed on the stranger’s shoulder.

The wisps of black mist paused for a moment, then suddenly had their deepest desires awakened and surged forward in an even more violent attack-only this time, their target became Hua Suihe.

They frantically coiled around her fingertips, cutting off her touch to the stranger, then slipped through her fingers, crawling up her arm, gradually enveloping her entire body, displaying an overwhelming and possessive intent.

And the master who controlled the black mist, those crimson eyes filled with wild and intense emotion, silently watched Hua Suihe’s every move.

With just a gentle tug, the countless strands of black mist could have lifted Hua Suihe’s crouched body, forcing her away from this place full of filthy human blood.

At this moment, Hua Suihe, enshrouded in black mist, was oblivious. In the darkness, she stared wide-eyed, but couldn’t see anything. Having just witnessed a real-life version of someone’s ‘guts hanging out,’ she didn’t dare turn the flashlight on again.

So she simply touched the man’s shoulder lightly and asked, her voice trembling, “Are you a player?”

“Help me…”

The man was barely alive, only able to keep calling for help with his last breath, unable to answer Hua Suihe’s question at all.

The flowing black mist paused for a second, then burrowed into the wounded man’s brow. His eyes instantly turned pitch black as he slowly spoke: “I am a player.”

Seeing that he could still speak, Hua Suihe’s heart leapt to her throat. She said nervously, “I’ll go find someone to help you. I’ll look for the vet here and get you stitched up.”

“Security… need glass beads… Security… need glass beads…”

“I’m fine, I’m fine…” The man suddenly sat up and stuffed his fallen organs back into his belly with both hands. “I’m fine, these are props, they’re fake, they’re fake…”

Hua Suihe didn’t understand his rambling, but the bloody stench was truly overwhelming.

What she saw just now under the flashlight had been far too real. Now she couldn’t see what he was doing, and she didn’t want to turn the light on to check again.

So she simply stood up. “Wait here, I’ll find someone to help you.”

She didn’t know why he suddenly started talking and seemed so energetic, but the smell of blood couldn’t lie-he must be injured, most likely by those crazed animals on the third floor.
But the player was really too invested-even with such serious injuries, they still didn’t forget to give her a clue.

Hua Suihe pushed her thoughts aside, grabbed Ye Susheng, and raced up the stairs. She shoved open the fourth-floor corridor door, calling, “Doctor! Is anyone there? Someone is hurt! Anyone?”

It was an emergency; even a veterinarian could probably handle first aid, right?

As Ye Susheng followed Hua Suihe upstairs, she drew the person’s last breath away.

There was no time to fake anything-Hua Hua had already seen the person’s terrible state. She couldn’t be fooled anymore.

So Hua Hua really wanted to get a doctor to save that person, even if he seemed dead.

Ye Susheng pressed her lips tightly together, her face partly hidden in the shadows, looking a little gloomy.

Hua Suihe dragged her to a brightly lit office and knocked hard on the door. “Is anyone there?”

She tried several doors before finally one opened.

It was the female doctor who had been with the child with cataracts. She opened the door, ruffled her messy hair as if she had just woken up, and looked at Hua Suihe with a blank expression. “What’s wrong?”

“There’s someone seriously injured in the corridor. Can you give first aid? Can you contact an ambulance to take him away? Do you have a phone?”

The doctor turned back into the room, grabbed her medical kit, and put on her glasses. “Leave it to me. Is it in the stairwell?”

“Yes, I’ll take you there. By the way, there’s no light in the stairwell. Is anyone else around?” Hua Suihe asked urgently, genuinely worried about whether the person could survive.

The female doctor hurried to knock on other office doors, and soon five doctors had gathered, bringing a stretcher as well.

When Hua Suihe tried to follow them into the corridor, Ye Susheng grabbed her wrist and stopped her.

Hua Suihe turned back in confusion.

Ye Susheng’s eyes flickered. She gently held Hua Suihe’s hand and asked, “Hua Hua, I’m scared. Can we not go see?”

Thinking back to what she’d just seen, Hua Suihe had to admit…

She nodded. “Okay, let’s not go.”

After all, she wasn’t a professional. The experts were already there, and whether the injured person could be saved was out of her hands. She could only wish him good luck.

The mad animals in this hospital were terrifying-so violent. Who knew how many big animals had escaped?

“So actually, the director we players have to expose is the real director of this hospital, to completely reveal this corrupt place? It’s not just acting out a script?”

Ye Susheng nodded. She raised her hand, and lying in her palm was a single clean, transparent glass marble.

“You picked this up?” Hua Suihe asked in surprise, taking the marble from her hand.

She hadn’t even noticed when Ye Susheng picked it up.

But what did this marble have to do with the security guard?

The security guard worked for the director. They had to get him out of the way to reach the eighth floor. Surely the security guard wasn’t just fond of playing marbles?

Ye Susheng pulled Hua Suihe toward the elevator. Hua Suihe glanced back at the tightly closed corridor door-the doctors still hadn’t carried the person out.

She collected her thoughts and followed Ye Susheng into the elevator.

The elevator ascended and stopped at the seventh floor; it couldn’t go directly to the eighth floor.

Ye Susheng walked over to the water dispenser, took a disposable cup, filled it with warm water, and dropped the glass marble in. Instantly, it became invisible.

“Just have him drink this, and it’ll work.”

Hua Suihe stared at the cup in confusion. Huh?

That’s it? Will this really work?

With a calm, impassive expression, Ye Susheng started making things up: “This marble has actually been treated with a ‘SpongeBob hardening’-it’s a prop given to players, with a strong sedative effect. It’ll put the security guard to sleep.” (Note: “SpongeBob hardening” appears to be an in-game term or a joke and is left as-is.)

Half-believing, Hua Suihe took the cup from her. “Really?”

“Mm.” Ye Susheng nodded sincerely.

Whether you trick him into drinking it or force him, the result is the same.
