Marry the NPC with Money, Wife Comes Knocking - Chapter 45
Chapter 45
[Holy shit, holy shit-I’m losing it!]
[I could tell ages ago Ye Susheng wasn’t human!]
[The Evil Black Mist wrapped up our Hua Hua again.]
[Hua Hua’s got some serious guts. How is she still sleeping?]
[Where we can’t see, they’re even sleeping in the same bed.]
[I wonder if Hua Hua can see the bullet comments. We’ve been talking in the livestream and she didn’t react to us at all.]
[Hua Hua’s on her period and has cramps-tipping a set of Body Health 18888. Just raise Hua Hua like a Digital Daughter and that’s it.]
Hua Suihe’s eyelids twitched. The black mist, as if startled, quickly drew itself in, shrinking to a tiny dot that hid inside Hua Suihe’s collar, resting against her chest.
Hua Suihe opened her eyes and lay flat for a full minute. She checked the time-only ten minutes had passed.
She sat up and looked around. Ye Susheng was already gone.
[Hua Hua’s awake. Will tipping Body Health affect Hua Hua’s sleep?]
[I saw that Furry Ball hide in Hua Hua’s collar.]
Hua Suihe shivered, then raised a hand and patted all over her clothes, but she didn’t feel anything strange.
That scared her to death. When she saw the comment, she’d thought it was a caterpillar.
The so-called Furry Ball had already turned into an inconspicuous little black mole, hiding in a soft, sweet-smelling place-absolutely no way to pluck it out.
Hua Suihe put on her shoes and walked out. Sure enough, the abdominal pain and fatigue had been swept away. She really hoped people would start tipping more of this kind of good stuff sooner.
Outside was a corridor. Roses and thorny vines twined around the railing, and black-and-red roses bloomed in vivid splendor.
There was no one outside.
Ye Susheng was the butler, and she had work to keep her busy, so Hua Suihe didn’t want to disturb her for now.
The Manor was so vast it was practically a forest park. There were no uphill stretches, but the roads wound around with countless forks-and not a single passerby.
Hua Suihe stopped beneath a signpost. It was a wooden sign that had already begun to rot; luckily, the words were carved into it. It read: “Rose Cultivation Base,” with an arrow.
Finally, somewhere she could report as her location. Hua Suihe lifted her electronic watch, intending to call Ye Susheng and tell her where she was.
The call wouldn’t go through. There was no signal here.
There wasn’t even a single broad tree for shade. Both sides of the road were rose gardens-red on one side, black on the other-and when she looked up, the sky was a blazing blue under the high sun.
And in a place like this, there was still no signal.
“Hua Suihe?”
A voice came from behind. Hua Suihe’s heart tightened; she spun around.
Yi Shuang and Fang Ge.
“Oh, it’s you.” Hua Suihe exhaled. “Are you two out for a walk too?”
Fang Ge’s expression was a little strange. “You mean… you walked here just to take a stroll?”
“Yeah.” Hua Suihe pointed back the way she’d come. “I came over from the lodging area. It wasn’t a long walk.”
“Mm… then why does it feel so far? You can’t even see the buildings behind us anymore.”
[Baby! You walked into the fog and got stuck in a loop!]
[I’m so anxious I’m pounding my bed. No matter how much we yelled, she didn’t listen-she just kept walking forward.]
[Those two look kind of professional. Can you take our Hua Hua with you? I’m scared Hua Hua’s going to die.]
[It has to be that old monster with the surname Zhuang trying to harm our Second Miss.]
[Where’s Ye Susheng? Why isn’t the Evil Black Mist anywhere to be seen?]
Before Fang Ge could speak again, Yi Shuang threw out a question first. “We’re going to the rose cultivation base up ahead. Want to come with us?”
Fang Ge shot Yi Shuang a questioning look, but the other woman didn’t take the hint.
There was something inside the rose cultivation base. She and Yi Shuang both had enough points as a safety net and were mentally prepared for a 99% chance of failure, but Hua Suihe was still on the newcomer leaderboard. Did she even have enough points to redeem a revival card?
Most importantly, Hua Suihe didn’t seem to know the rose cultivation base was a dangerous area-she’d just wandered in like she was out for a stroll.
Hua Suihe looked at the short two-story building ahead. “What are you two going there to do?”
Fang Ge said, “I heard the one researching the Four Seasons Ever-Blooming Rose is the Zhuang Family’s young master. We want to pay him a visit.”
“Young master… Mr. Zhuang’s son?” Hua Suihe lowered her eyes in thought. There was nothing about this “young master” in the information card she’d been given, so she knew absolutely nothing about him.
“You two go ahead. I’ll walk back. There’s no signal over here. If Ye Susheng can’t reach me, I’m afraid she’ll worry.”
“I don’t recommend going back,” Yi Shuang spoke up at the right moment to warn her. “You might get lost. Either come with us to the house up ahead-there might be signal there.”
Get lost?
Hua Suihe looked at the clear road stretching out in front of her. Aside from there being a lot of forks, she didn’t think it was enough to actually get someone lost.
Still, what Yi Shuang said made sense. Where there were houses, there might be signal.
Hua Suihe decided to go on ahead with them.
They walked another seven or eight minutes before finally reaching the small two-story house. It wasn’t big, maybe two hundred square meters, sitting in the middle of the rose fields. Taking it as the dividing line, the roses on its two sides were different colors: one side black, the other red.
Hua Suihe raised her wrist to check her watch. Sure enough, the signal indicator had lit up. She immediately called Ye Susheng.
Fang Ge and Yi Shuang knocked and went in together. The front door closed automatically behind them, leaving Hua Suihe outside.
“Ye Zi, I’ve walked to some unfamiliar place, the rose cultivation base. Can you come pick me up?”
The sound from the watch was full of harsh static, the digital distortion so bad she couldn’t make out what Ye Susheng was saying. Hua Suihe repeated herself.
This time she could at least hear a clear “okay.” Hua Suihe hung up, reassured, and sat down on the stone steps in front of the door to enjoy the view.
Behind her, the old iron door creaked as it opened.
A chill ran down her back. Feeling something, she turned around.
She saw a familiar child. “…Chai Chai?”
“Teacher Hua.”
The little boy was still wearing a yellowed white shirt and denim shorts that ended above the knee. He was barefoot, and his hands were black and filthy, like he’d just been digging in the dirt with his bare hands.
Chai Chai beamed. “Teacher Hua, you really did come visit my home.”
“This is your home?”
“Yeah!”
“You’re not Mr. Zhuang’s son, are you?” The moment the words left her mouth, a sudden gust of wind whipped her hair into a frenzy. The wind was so strong she couldn’t keep her eyes open. All she could hear was the soft roar of the rose fields, leaves and petals hissing under the blast.
The black mist burst out of Hua Suihe’s body, wrapping around her, baring its fangs and claws as it issued a warning at the Anomaly in front of them.
But it was only wind.
When the wind died, Hua Suihe opened her eyes and pushed back her disheveled hair.
After she’d tidied herself up, she finally noticed that Chai Chai’s face had gone pale. The smile was gone too.
“What’s wrong?”
Chai Chai’s mouth trembled. He covered his eyes to keep himself from crying, his emotions collapsing. “I don’t want to be Mr. Zhuang’s son. I don’t want the surname Zhuang!”
“Alright, I misspoke. Don’t cry, don’t you dare cry. He wants to hurt me too. I don’t acknowledge him as my big brother either.”
Chai Chai dropped his hands, puzzled. “He wants to hurt you? He’s still alive?”
Then Chai Chai suddenly brightened. “That means Teacher Hua is my aunt!”
