Chapter 47

Hua Suihe didn’t see Mr. Zhuang for the entire day.

He didn’t show up at dinner, either.

Ever since he’d thrown a fit at the doorway, he’d vanished without a trace.

Hua Suihe stayed on guard all day, not knowing what kind of trick Mr. Zhuang might pull to get her killed and seize full rights to the inheritance.

But the first day passed peacefully.

At daybreak on the second day, Hua Suihe went to eat as usual. There weren’t many people at breakfast-seemed like everyone loved sleeping in.

Hua Suihe was planning to do something big. Since Mr. Zhuang wasn’t showing his face, she couldn’t just sit around and wait.

So after breakfast, she got Ye Susheng to work with her and went searching through Mr. Zhuang’s study, bedroom, and safe.

Anywhere that could hide confidential documents-she wasn’t going to miss a single spot.

With Ye Susheng’s help, they got into Mr. Zhuang’s study without much trouble.

Hua Suihe didn’t waste words. She started rifling through his bookcase and desk drawers.

“Four Seasons Ever-Blooming Rose Cultivation Plan?” Hua Suihe glanced at the title, tossed it onto the desk, and picked up another.

Same title.

In the end, she hauled out a stack of documents nearly thirty centimeters tall.

Every single one of them had the same name.

“Wow, wow. What is Mr. Zhuang even doing-does he seriously love growing roses that much?” She didn’t even have the energy to complain. She just wanted to find proof that Mr. Zhuang had been doing something dirty-get something on him, grab his weakness, and have a way to keep him in check.

Ye Susheng pried open the safe with ease. The safe was as big as a wardrobe, and inside were boxes upon boxes.

“Hua Hua, the safe’s open.”

Hua Suihe set down the boring, useless documents and walked over. “Where’d you find the key?”

Ye Susheng blinked innocently. “There wasn’t a key. He didn’t lock it.”

“Really?” Even for a script, that was way too casual.

Hua Suihe didn’t dwell on it. She pulled the boxes out one by one. None of them were locked.

She flipped one open at random.

It was packed full of cash.

Hua Suihe’s eyes went wide. “Whoa…”

They were using real money as props? The Yu Sheng Troupe was way too rich.

With great effort, Hua Suihe squeezed her eyes shut and slammed the lid back down. No, no-look but don’t touch. She was frighteningly broke right now; she couldn’t afford to let any crooked thoughts creep in.

She opened ten boxes in a row before finally finding one at the very bottom that contained documents.

“He really knows how to hide things.” Gritting her teeth, Hua Suihe plopped down on the floor and began flipping through the papers stamped CONFIDENTIAL.

Ye Susheng stacked the boxes back into the safe, then crouched beside Hua Suihe and helped her go through the files.

Hua Suihe suddenly thought of something. She turned to Ye Susheng. “Wait-how are we rummaging around his study this openly, and those black-clad bodyguards in the Manor still haven’t shown up?”

Ye Susheng’s eyes flicked, her gaze drifting aside for a split second. In a small voice, she said, “I… sent them away…”

Hua Suihe leaned in and kissed her on the cheek, praising her. “Ye Zi, you’re amazing. Hehe~”

Ye Susheng lowered her head shyly, lips pressed together, her curved eyes brimming with laughter.

Hua Suihe’s attention returned to the documents. “Tsk, tsk, tsk. This Mr. Zhuang-why is he so obsessed with growing roses? It’s all cultivation methods…”

“What the-” Hua Suihe couldn’t believe her eyes. “A cultivation formula?!”

Ye Susheng leaned in and skimmed it. Quick as lightning, she snatched up the old, gruesome, blood-soaked photos buried at the bottom and hid them under her skirt, taking the chance to make them disappear.

Hua Suihe picked up a cultivation diary and flipped through it, her face dark.

[January 10. The rose endured autumn, but withered in winter. The master said that only human blood can serve as nourishment to keep the Four Seasons Ever-Blooming Rose from fading through the seasons. I used my own blood to feed a small sprout as a trial.]
[April 3rd. The roses have developed intelligence. I saw it with my own eyes-it swallowed a nanny whole. I was thrilled, and terrified at the same time. The blood I offer it every day is no longer enough to nurture it. I’m afraid it will backlash against me.]

[July 1st. It’s the season for roses to propagate. That single rose has already grown into a whole cluster, but I no longer dare go near it. My blood will drive it into a frenzy. Even if I am its master, it will still eat me. I can only watch it from afar.]

[July 18th. I’ve decided to follow the master’s advice and use the blood of my own blood relatives to feed it in my stead. With a special formation, the roses can draw a steady, endless stream of nourishment. I placed my son into the Formation Core. Now I can approach my roses again.]

……

[May 30th. The Four Seasons Ever-Blooming Rose successfully endured a full year. It truly didn’t wither! My good son-his sacrifice was meaningful.]

……

[Three years have passed. Roses now cover the entire Manor. The roses have started showing signs of turning on their master again. I’m terrified. The master says it’s because there isn’t enough nourishment anymore; it needs more. I plan to hold a flower-viewing banquet and lure back the last of my blood relatives-my younger sister.]

It was a thick notebook. Hua Suihe practically skimmed it by hopping from entry to entry, and by the time she reached the last line, she was so furious her face was burning red.

“What the hell is wrong with this Mr. Zhuang? Feeding a Flower Demon with human blood-how does he even come up with that?”

The diary was hefty and looked worn, clearly several years old.

Hua Suihe could hardly tell whether this was a script or something that had really happened. It was so insane it was beyond normal comprehension.

Chai Chai was still alive. She’d seen him just yesterday.

Hua Suihe forced herself to calm down, still seething. “Did a zombie dig his brains out or something?”

Ye Susheng lowered her head and fiddled with her palm. Whether a zombie had dug his brains out, she didn’t know. But she did know she’d dug into it.

“Hua Hua, don’t be mad. He’s so evil-maybe he’s already been eaten by the Flower Demon he raised.”

“Maybe.” They hadn’t seen him in two days.

Hua Suihe sorted through what mattered. She needed to think through exactly how to deal with all of this.

The roses’ main source of nourishment was blood from Mr. Zhuang’s own bloodline. But the notebook also said the roses had swallowed a nanny-meaning it wouldn’t just feed on her; it would attack guests too.

The person who died in the flowerbed by the entrance yesterday might have been killed by the roses.

And Mr. Zhuang trying to kill her wasn’t about any inheritance at all. It was to replace her in the Formation Core.

They’d wasted too much time in the study. By the time Hua Suihe and Ye Susheng returned to the main hall, the meal time had already passed. The gold-and-glittering hall was completely empty.

Hua Suihe’s heart thudded uneasily. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Seeing the heaviness on Hua Suihe’s face, Ye Susheng lifted a hand and smoothed her brow, comforting her. “Hua Hua, don’t be scared. It’s just a script.”

Hua Suihe looked up at her, the emotion in her dark eyes unreadable.

Under that stare, Ye Susheng felt a little guilty. She slowly lowered her hand, lips moving, but all she could manage was, “Hua Hua…”

“I, Second Young Miss Hua, won’t allow a tragedy like this to happen.”

Ye Susheng fell silent.

So Hua Hua wasn’t taking it as real. Good. As long as she wasn’t.

Hua Suihe paced back and forth on the red carpet. “Is there any way to call everyone back at once?”

“There’s no broadcast system in the Manor. And dinner’s in two hours-everyone will come back then.”

Hua Suihe scratched at her hair and gave up. “Forget it. I’m going to change my pad first.”
