Marry the NPC with Money, Wife Comes Knocking - Chapter 48
Chapter 48
Xinrou stayed with Water Cube.
The second day’s rhythm was completely different from the first. On day one, after eating, they could remain in the living room and talk with others. Through conversation, they could probe and try to figure out the NPC list-but once the first person died, everything went to hell.
Because no one knew whether the dead person was a player or an NPC.
And the death toll spiked far too fast. By dinnertime yesterday, more than twenty people were already dead.
No one could be sure it was only players dying, because those NPCs acted no differently from ordinary people.
At this point, Task Four was impossible to complete.
It was the same mealtime schedule, but the moment dinner ended, the black-clad bodyguards drove them out of the hall.
At the same time, the roses outside seemed to have gone mad. If you let your guard down for even a second, they would climb up your calves, bind you, and swallow you whole. It had already happened twice right beside them.
Now Xinrou and Water Cube were hiding in the lodging area. The room doors didn’t open outside of rest hours, so they could only crouch in the corner of a corridor. The rose thorns hadn’t grown upward yet, giving them a sliver of breathing room.
“Have you accomplished anything?” Water Cube had no leads on any of the five tasks. For now, all he could do was hold on to Task Five-immersive roleplay-so even while chatting, he was especially careful about words related to players and tasks.
Xinrou had completed Task Two yesterday, but she didn’t come clean to Water Cube. She only shook her head in silence.
“Mr. Zhuang hasn’t shown up these past two days. His place is covered in roses-we can’t even get close. I don’t know how we’re supposed to proceed.”
As for the real young master, they hadn’t seen him from beginning to end. They wanted to search for him in the Manor, but just avoiding the roses was already a miserable scramble. There was no path to take.
“Four days is so long.” Xinrou squatted down and hugged herself tightly.
She had already met the requirement of completing any condition. As long as she survived four days, she could leave the dungeon. She didn’t expect to clear the main storyline and earn extra rewards-she just wanted to get out alive.
There was another reason Water Cube was sinking into anxiety: Yi Shuang was dead.
The dagger in her hand could kill any Anomaly. She had been through many dungeons herself, with a survival rate as high as ninety-five percent. Even someone like her had died on the first day.
He didn’t know what had gone wrong, but it only proved this dungeon was hiding something.
Time trickled by until dinner finally arrived.
Everyone rushed back to the hall, finally able to catch their breath.
But dinner only lasted an hour. After it ended, there were still three hours before rest time, and they still couldn’t return to their bedrooms.
At dinner, Second Young Miss Hua told everyone not to go outside unless they absolutely had to, which only intensified the anxiety in the room.
“Second Young Miss Hua, what’s going on with the roses in your Manor? They actually eat people! As the owner of this place, how are you going to answer for the dead? And how are our lives supposed to be protected?”
“Yeah! Do you think hiding in here and not going out will solve anything? Who can guarantee that monster’s thorns won’t slip in through the cracks? When that happens, we won’t be able to run!”
“Where is Mr. Zhuang? He invited us here to admire flowers-what’s he really up to? He clearly tricked us into coming here to feed the monsters!”
“Second Young Miss Hua! Second Young Miss Hua!”
Someone suddenly started venting at Hua Suihe. The players who thought they could finally hide in the hall and breathe broke down on the spot. This kind of instigating talk was pure provocation-definitely an NPC!
“Second Young Miss Hua was kind enough to let us hide here, so why are you taking it out on her? Did she cause this mess?”
“That Mr. Zhuang is the one hiding and keeping his mouth shut. This trouble is all because of him-what does it have to do with Second Young Miss Hua?”
So the people with different opinions started arguing with each other.
A cool, indifferent voice rang out. “Shut up.”
Ye Susheng stood beside Hua Suihe, a presence like a guardian deity.
“Either stay here quietly, or get out.”
Butler Su Sheng’s words carried absolute authority. No one dared speak again.
[So handsome, Ye Susheng. Hua Hua really picked the right one, hehehe~]
[Those roses outside are for real-they eat people. One bundle of thorns and a whole group is just gone.]
[Hua Hua perfectly missed the horror movie again.]
[Counted heads-only 38 people left.]
[There were eighty on the first day. They’re definitely dead.]
[Hua Hua, you have to stay alive!]
[With Ye Susheng here, let the Evil Black Mist keep being evil-protect our Hua Hua!]
Hua Suihe didn’t want to explain too much and cause more panic.
“Right now, staying in the main hall is the safest. If you can accept it, you can spend the night in the main hall. Mr. Zhuang is missing, but I’ll clean up the mess he left behind.”
“I can’t do anything about those who’ve already been sacrificed, but I’ll do my best to keep you safe.”
This time, no one questioned her.
Hua Suihe and Ye Susheng left the main hall.
Outside, the roses in the flowerbeds were perfectly normal. There was no crazed, explosive growth-everything looked the same as it had on the first day.
Seeing that, Hua Suihe felt a little more settled.
She knew they were following a script, but as the number of people she saw kept dropping-and with the players and extras acting their emotions so professionally-she’d almost believed the roses had really gone crazy and started eating people.
Rose Manor truly was a manor full of roses, their fragrance drifting everywhere.
The night breeze brushed gently past. Hua Suihe swept her messy hair behind her ear. “Let’s go see Chai Chai tomorrow.”
The streetlights cast rose shadows on the ground, swaying softly in the wind. Ye Susheng slowed, falling half a step behind.
Hua Suihe stopped and took her hand. “What’s on your mind?”
The light overhead cast a shadow across Ye Susheng’s lashes. When she lowered her gaze to Hua Suihe, that shadow neatly hid the deepening madness and chill in her red eyes.
Hua Suihe didn’t get an answer, but she didn’t press. Instead, she mischievously squeezed Ye Susheng’s fingers. Hands in lace gloves always made her want to touch them.
“Oh, right.” Hua Suihe lifted a hand and hooked the lace trim at Ye Susheng’s elbow. “I slept in today, so I didn’t help my wife put on her gloves. Did you put them on yourself?”
Ye Susheng grabbed Hua Suihe’s arm and gave a sharp tug, pulling her into her embrace. With her other hand, she pinched Hua Suihe’s chin, forcing her to tilt her head up.
Hua Suihe was shoved straight into her arms. A cool, clean scent hit her, even pushing away the rose fragrance, until all she could smell was Ye Susheng-her own unique scent.
Ye Susheng’s mouth was set tight. Even the hand holding Hua Suihe didn’t dare use any real force.
Ye Susheng thought this woman was outrageously bold-actually daring to tug at her gloves and tease her.
Pinching her chin and making her look up was supposed to intimidate her.
But the moment she met Hua Suihe’s expectant gaze, Ye Susheng somehow read the emotion inside it-an unmistakable invitation to be kissed.
Ye Susheng swallowed, and what she was thinking slipped out. “You smell so good. I want to eat you up.”
She opened her mouth, baring two small canine teeth in naked threat.
Hua Suihe licked her lips. “How about this-on our day off, I’ll take you to buy comics. We’ll study together, okay?”
Ye Susheng snorted in disdain. If you were eating people, what was there to study?
Hua Suihe tapped her own lips, staring into Ye Susheng’s eyes where desire roiled, and coaxed softly, “Want to take a bite?”
