Chapter 49

Ye Susheng’s gaze followed the direction of Hua Hua’s fingertip and landed on those vivid, incomparable red lips. The scent that tempted her most seemed to be hidden inside her mouth.

Ye Susheng pressed her lips together and didn’t move for a long time. Hua Suihe felt a little frustrated and lowered her hand. “Forget it. I’m tired. I’m going back to sleep.”

Ye Susheng grabbed her by the arm and refused to let go. Hua Suihe tried a few times but couldn’t pull free, so she had to turn back and look at her, her eyes full of confusion.

Just as Hua Suihe was about to ask again, Ye Susheng’s icy hand shot toward her collar, slipping in through the neckline and touching the full curve beneath.

The cold contact made Hua Suihe shiver instinctively. When she realized what Ye Susheng was doing, she yanked that wandering hand out at once. Her cheeks instantly burned red-humiliated and furious-while she angrily tugged her V-neck back into place.

“What the hell are you doing?!”

Ye Susheng stared at her with wide, blank, innocent eyes. She’d only seen that most of her black mist was hiding on Hua Hua’s chest, and she’d reached in to pull it back.

But then she touched that…

“Hua Hua.”

“Hua Hua, Hua Hua…” With each soft murmur, Ye Susheng’s body temperature returned to normal. Realizing she’d made Hua Hua angry, she panicked and started crying.

In no time, the corners of her eyes were stained with a rouge-like red. When she spoke, her voice was choked with sobs. “Hua Hua, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it, Hua Hua…”

The moment Ye Susheng cried, Hua Suihe’s anger evaporated. Now she had to coax this little crybaby instead.

Hua Suihe lifted a hand and wiped away her tears. Even so, Ye Susheng was still the one at fault, and Hua Suihe kept her tone cool. “No crying.”

Ye Susheng held her hand and kept Hua Suihe’s palm against her own face. There were still tears clinging to her lashes, and her words came out thick with a stuffy nasal tone. “Hua Hua, it’s all my fault.”

Hua Suihe asked, precise and serious, “What exactly did you do wrong?”

Ye Susheng sounded wronged. “I… I forgot to have Hua Hua help me put my gloves on today.”

Hua Suihe gave a speechless little laugh, then ground out through clenched teeth, “From now on, you’re not allowed to randomly yank at my clothes outside! Even if it’s pitch-black, windy, and there’s nobody around, you’re still not allowed to act like a hooligan out there!”

After getting lectured, Ye Susheng didn’t dare make a sound.

Hua Suihe pinched her cheek. “Do you know you were wrong?”

“I know. I won’t ever do it again.” Ye Susheng lowered her head and admitted fault, then stared longingly at Hua Suihe’s lips. “Then… will Hua Hua give me a kiss?”

Hua Suihe snorted. “Just now I told you to kiss me and you wouldn’t. You missed your chance.”

Ye Susheng acted like she hadn’t heard the refusal. She lowered her head and pecked Hua Suihe’s lips once. “Hua Hua~”

“I love Hua Hua so much. I love Hua Hua so much~”

She kissed her again and again, like she was cherishing the rarest treasure in the world. Hua Suihe said no, but she never truly dodged.

The two of them clung to each other under the lamp for a long while.

Ye Susheng also kept pestering Hua Suihe to help her take off her gloves and put them back on again.

In the end, Hua Suihe wrapped the lace gloves around Ye Susheng’s wrist several times and tied a knot. With her finger hooked through those loops of lace, she led her toward the residential area.

The next morning.

Ye Susheng insisted that Hua Suihe help her put her gloves on first. Once they were on, the System showed that all of Hua Suihe’s task progress had been completed.

The two of them went to breakfast together. The number of people hadn’t decreased this morning-everyone was obediently hiding in the main hall.

To solve the rose-eating-people incident at the root, they still needed to take a look at that cultivation formation.

“Chai Chai lives all the way out there by himself. We should bring him something. At least we won’t show up empty-handed.”

Ye Susheng let herself be led around by Hua Suihe. The way Hua Suihe treated that little brat made her a bit jealous. “It’s fine to go empty-handed too.”
“It’s not like it’s anything valuable.” Hua Suihe grabbed a few individually wrapped snacks from the dessert table in the hall and stuffed them into a plastic bag. “Let’s just bring something to eat.”

Ye Susheng bit her lip, and in the end didn’t interrupt Hua Suihe’s enthusiasm.

Just as the two of them were about to head out, someone called out to Hua Suihe, “Peanut!”

Hua Suihe turned around. It was the man called Water Cube. “What is it?”

Water Cube walked over with a smile, though his eyes gave away his nerves. “Do you still remember me?”

It was a pretty pointless opener.

Hua Suihe answered politely, “I do. What’s up?”

Water Cube shot a glance at Ye Susheng standing beside Hua Suihe, silent as a stone, and his heart started trembling. “It’s… I know you already know about Mr. Zhuang’s vile behavior. Can you tell me?”

“Ah…” Hua Suihe swept her gaze around the hall. No one seemed to be edging closer to listen.

She knew Water Cube was a player. If he wanted to know, it was probably some task requirement or something. It wasn’t like she couldn’t tell him.

After a brief moment of thought, Hua Suihe promised, “I still have something to take care of. Once I’ve settled it, I’ll come back here and explain the whole story to everyone-how it started and how it ended.”

The smile on Water Cube’s face almost couldn’t hold. In a stiff tone, he asked, “Then when are you coming back?”

“If things go quickly, I’ll be back before lunch.”

Seeing Water Cube still trying to tack on some messy, meaningless questions, Ye Susheng’s voice turned icy. “Do you have anything else to ask?”

Water Cube clamped his mouth shut at once and shook his head.

“Then we’ll head out first,” Hua Suihe said, tugging Ye Susheng along as they left the main building.

Xinrou walked over to Water Cube. “What did she say?”

Water Cube reined in his emotions. “She said she has something to do and she’ll talk when she comes back.”

Hua Suihe led Ye Susheng onto the narrow path. After winding through turn after turn, they finally spotted a sign pointing toward the Rose Cultivation Base.

The roses looked even more vivid than they had that day-their petals glossier, their color deeper.

Hua Suihe stopped in front of the small two-story house and knocked on the old iron door.

“Chai Chai, are you home?”

She waited for a while. Nothing.

Hua Suihe knocked again and called out to him.

Ye Susheng stepped forward and pushed the door open. “He’s probably not awake yet. Let’s just go in.”

Hua Suihe caught her by the wrist. “Isn’t that… kind of rude? Let’s wait outside for him.”

Ye Susheng obediently stopped, but still reminded her honestly, “If we keep waiting at the door, we won’t see him today.”

Hua Suihe lifted her eyes to look at her, catching the implication. She threw her hesitation aside and pushed open the small iron door, stepping in.

Strangely, from the outside there were little windows. But once inside, the space was a perfect square-four walls sealed tight, not a sliver of light getting through. There were only roses filling the room.

The room was empty, so empty she could see everything at a glance. There wasn’t even a bed or a chair, and there was no sign of Chai Chai.

Hua Suihe was about to turn back, but Ye Susheng had already taken her and led her forward. Just as they were about to collide with the wall, the roses parted on their own, and a wooden ladder leading upward abruptly appeared.

“Huh? That’s… pretty amazing.”

Ye Susheng didn’t immediately take her up. Instead, she gave her a warning first. “Hua Hua, no matter what you see, it’s just a prop. Don’t be scared.”

Hua Suihe answered casually, “What kind of prop? Like a skeleton?”

“Yeah.”
