Marry the NPC with Money, Wife Comes Knocking - Chapter 5
The girl closed the door behind her with a flip of her hand, also sizing up Hua Suihe.
Her eyes were clear and bright, her skin fair with a rosy flush. Under the light, her cherry blossom pink hair looked like a romantic sandy river. She was like a porcelain doll exquisitely sculpted by Nuwa, but she seemed unaware of the dangers in Yusheng World, still dressed in youthful, lively overalls that weren’t easy to move in.
She asked, “Player?”
“Oh, so you’re a player.” Hua Suihe relaxed, looking at the girl with curiosity.
She had short hair cut to her ears, sharp features, evenly tan skin, wore a black tight-fitting short-sleeved shirt, and close-fitting pants suitable for movement-she looked neat and efficient.
This was her first time seeing a player, but she didn’t know if players, like herself, had come from the real world, so she asked curiously, “Where are you from?”
“Big City, District B. Yi Shuang.” Yi Shuang gave her name, her expression suspicious. “Who are you? Have you always been here?”
Hua Suihe felt a bit disappointed. So this player was a local after all; she had thought all players had origins like hers.
Since Yi Shuang had introduced herself, Hua Suihe did the same, “I’m Hua Suihe. There’s no one here; I’m just staying for a while.”
Yi Shuang noticed the overly innocent look in Hua Suihe’s eyes and kindly reminded, “This is Su Sheng’s office. You’d better leave before he comes back.”
Hua Suihe tilted her head in confusion. “Then why are you here?”
“Task prompt.” Yi Shuang cut herself off, then asked, “Information exchange?”
Seeing Hua Suihe didn’t respond, Yi Shuang spoke first: “In Su Sheng’s office, you can find a way to the director’s office.”
“So the hints players get are different.” Because of Yi Shuang’s honesty, Hua Suihe also shared her own clue, “The director’s office holds backups of all pet records.”
Receiving this important information, Yi Shuang stopped chatting and went to Su Sheng’s desk, searching through each drawer.
The office was quite empty: a desk, a filing cabinet, and a simple sofa and chairs.
Hua Suihe watched her rummage and wanted to say something, but Yi Shuang waved for her to help search too.
Hua Suihe hesitated for a moment, then crouched down to search the drawers she hadn’t opened.
“Not good, Su Sheng is back.”
Hua Suihe stood up. “Should we…”
Yi Shuang tugged Hua Suihe, trying to pull her to jump out the window, but didn’t expect Su Sheng to return so quickly. A deadly hooked chain had already caught Yi Shuang’s collar-if she hadn’t reacted fast, her head would’ve been separated from her body.
Yi Shuang gave up on escaping with the pink-haired girl, broke the window decisively and jumped down, leaving a piece of torn fabric fluttering to the ground.
“…Ask in person, then.” Hua Suihe looked back at the door. Ye Maomao was standing there obediently, then she looked at the glass shards all over the floor.
Hua Suihe gave an awkward smile and explained weakly, “I wasn’t the one who broke this. Do I need to pay for it?”
She had no money; all her living expenses were provided by her wife.
“I know, it was the player causing trouble.” Ye Susheng confirmed Hua Suihe hadn’t seen the hook chain and felt relieved, the bloodthirstiness in her eyes fading a little.
Although the rules had little effect on her, her habit of killing made her ignore Hua Suihe’s presence at first, and she almost revealed her true nature in front of her dear wife.
Ye Susheng walked toward Hua Suihe. There was no fear in Hua Suihe’s eyes. As Ye Susheng approached, Hua Suihe took the initiative to take a step forward. Ye Susheng picked her up and set her down on the clean floor.
“There’s glass everywhere, don’t stand there.” After setting her down, Ye Susheng looked at her expectantly, as if waiting for praise or a reward.
Hua Suihe understood, gave her a kiss on the lips, and gently wrapped her arms around her, tidying her hair with soothing strokes.
Ye Susheng’s gaze became hazy; she instinctively cupped Hua Suihe’s head to keep her from pulling away, pressing her lips to hers and sucking gently. “Hua Hua, Hua Hua loves me…”
She always kept this phrase on her lips: ‘Hua Hua loves me.’
When she finally had a chance to catch her breath, Hua Suihe murmured twice, “Love you, love you.”
Ye Susheng, reluctant to part, nuzzled her face with her lips and complained softly, “But I still have to work.”
“You have to work to earn money to support me.” Hua Suihe tried to persuade her, though her voice lacked conviction. Ye Susheng worked the night shift every day. Although NPCs only needed to refresh and didn’t need to rest, seeing her work every day made Hua Suihe feel sorry for her.
“I’ll go find a job. If we both have an income, Ye Zi can work one day and rest the next.” Hua Suihe made up her mind. Since she was stuck in the game and couldn’t leave, she might as well get used to life and try to integrate into society.
“No.” Ye Susheng refused without hesitation. “I have money for Hua Hua to use. Hua Hua doesn’t need to work.”
“I’m going to work now, Hua Hua…” Ye Susheng’s voice trailed off, her mood sinking. Those reckless players still dared to drop by here, and it wasn’t safe for Hua Hua to stay alone.
Hua Suihe grabbed her hand, speaking excitedly: “Can I go out with you? I get really bored here by myself.”
Ye Susheng was slow to agree, so Hua Suihe shook her hand anxiously. “Can I? Can I?”
“Alright.” Ye Susheng agreed without hesitation, reminding her again: “But Hua Hua has to stay with me, okay? The hospital is big, and it would be hard to find you if you got lost.”
Hua Suihe agreed right away.
The game system had given Hua Suihe very little in terms of script and hints, so she didn’t know that players and NPCs were on opposing sides, nor did she realize this was an escape scenario.
So she didn’t really feel involved in the game.
She wanted to go out and see if she could meet other players. The girl she had just met was from the big city, a character in the game.
She wondered if she could meet someone else who came from the outside, like her.
Hua Suihe slipped her phone into her pocket and left with Ye Susheng.
All the consulting rooms on the fourth floor were dark, their doors closed. It must have been after work hours. The hallway was dim, and so quiet that only their footsteps could be heard.
The lights flickered, and half the corridor went dark.
Seeing this, Hua Suihe couldn’t help but complain, “The facilities in this pet hospital are awful.”
“They should be reported for repairs,” Ye Susheng replied seriously.
Their workplace was on the third floor. They didn’t take the elevator; they walked up the emergency stairs to the third floor.
Pushing open the half-closed door felt like stepping into another world.
It was noisier than a marketplace. The calls of animals all blended together, making it impossible to tell how many kinds there were.
The noise made Hua Suihe a bit dizzy.
Feeling Ye Susheng patting her hair, Hua Suihe looked up and met her worried gaze. Hua Hua shook her head and explained, “It’s just a bit loud.”
The air didn’t smell good either.
The air reeked of blood and rotting animal corpses. Hua Suihe closed her eyes, wanting to turn around and go back to the stairwell, as if she had never come out at all.
She complained, “The facilities are bad enough, but why is the environment so awful too?”
Just as she finished, a white mask covered her nose and mouth, the cool touch brushing her ear before quickly withdrawing.
It was Ye Susheng’s hand-she helped her put on a mask, which really did block out the unpleasant smell.
Hua Suihe hooked the strap behind her ear and spoke in a slightly muffled voice, “But what about you?”
Ye Susheng wasn’t wearing a mask herself.
“It’s fine. As long as Hua Hua has one, I can’t smell anything bad.”
