Chapter 58

Ye Susheng changed into a clean set of everyday clothes and took Hua Suihe to the bookstore.

They rode the subway again. It was still completely empty.

They didn’t see anyone until they got off at their stop. The bookstore wasn’t far from the station, so they headed straight there as soon as they exited.

Thinking about what she was going to buy, Hua Suihe got embarrassed right at the last moment. Her voice turned timid. “I-I don’t even know if this bookstore sells it.”

Ye Susheng pulled her into the shop. “Whatever Hua Hua wants, you can buy it here.”

The bookstore wasn’t big. You could tell at a glance how many shelves it had. The lighting was dim, too-unless you walked up close, you couldn’t even make out the category labels stuck beside the shelves.

The owner ran the place himself. He sat at the register wearing reading glasses, flipping through a book.

When he noticed someone come in, he looked up, quickly closed the book and set it facedown on the counter, then stood to greet them.

“Welcome, you two. What kind of book are you looking for?”

Eyes full of expectation, Ye Susheng pushed Hua Suihe to the front. “It’s what Hua Hua wants. Hua Hua, tell him.”

Shoved forward like that, Hua Suihe faced an older man who was well past fifty, and the words instantly got stuck in her throat.

The owner was patient. He stared at Hua Suihe with wide eyes, a polite, practiced smile on his face, waiting for her to speak.

Hua Suihe bit her lip and rubbed her forehead. “We’ll… take a look around first.”

Seeing Hua Suihe still couldn’t say it, Ye Susheng got anxious. Even with that clueless, innocent expression, she spoke up directly. “We’re looking for manga. Romance manga-preferably romance manga for girls.”

The owner adjusted his glasses and immediately understood. He swept a meaningful look over the two of them.

He couldn’t even hide his sly grin. “Ahem. I understand, I understand. Of course we have it. I’ll find some for you-wait a moment.”

Hua Suihe turned around at once and hid behind Ye Susheng, not daring to open her eyes, wishing it was all just her imagination.

The owner went to the shelves and searched for a long while. In the end, he came back with a pile of books and stacked them on the counter. “We’ve got all kinds-men and women. Let me pick carefully.”

After that, he flipped through the full-color comics as if no one else existed, picking out the ones with two girls. In the end, seven books were left.

The owner grinned from ear to ear and kept selling. “Besides these, do you want some novels to help you unwind?”

Ye Susheng’s eyes lit up. “Yes, yes, yes! And make them girls’ ones too.”

Last time at the library, she hadn’t found any girls’ novels, so she hadn’t been interested in reading further.

The owner went back again and came out with another armful-this time he found them quickly.

They were piled on the counter like a little mountain.

“All of these are what you need.”

Hua Suihe’s eyes went wide. Seeing Ye Susheng about to enthusiastically buy the lot, she hurried to stop her. “We don’t need that many. We won’t be able to carry them back.”

The owner could see Ye Susheng’s thirst for knowledge and naturally tried even harder to sell. “No need to worry. Our shop includes delivery. We’ll definitely deliver them to wherever you want before this afternoon, alright? And since you’re buying so many, there’s a discount-twenty percent off. Deal?”

Ye Susheng flipped open a book and skimmed a page. Her eyes shone. She tugged on Hua Suihe’s clothes and wheedled, “Let’s get them, Hua Hua. All of them, all of them~”

Hua Suihe quietly took out a gold card and handed it to the owner. This pile of books cost five hundred thousand.

The happiest ones were the owner and Ye Susheng.

Ye Susheng leaned against Hua Suihe’s shoulder and hugged her close. “Thank you, Hua Hua~ Thanks for buying me books. I love you, Hua Hua.”

Her girlfriend was so sweet it made her teeth ache. What could she do? She could only spoil her.
After buying the books, Hua Suihe took Ye Susheng to a phone shop. This time, they finally had money to buy phones.

They bought two, deliberately choosing higher-spec models.

They’d spent quite a bit today. Ye Susheng suggested they go home and cook, and Hua Suihe agreed immediately. Just looking at those restaurants, you could tell they were expensive.

When they got home, the books from the bookstore had arrived too.

Ye Susheng carried the stack inside, then went straight to cook for Hua Hua.

Hua Suihe glanced at Ye Susheng bustling around, then walked into the wooden cabin, opened the box of books, and casually pulled one out to flip through.

It happened to be a novel with an artsy title. She squatted to the side and started reading.

After just two lines, her brows knitted. She skimmed further down.

There was basically no plot at all-right from the opening, it was straight into explicit scenes.

No wonder the bookstore lighting had been so dim. So it was the kind of stuff that couldn’t see the light of day.

Hua Suihe frowned as she kept flipping. Her mouth was full of disdain, but her eyes never left the page.

“Hua Hua, dinner’s ready!”

Ye Susheng’s voice suddenly sounded above her head. Hua Suihe’s heart lurched. Her hands moved faster than her brain-she snapped the book shut and stuffed it back into the carton.

When people feel guilty, they suddenly get very busy. Hua Suihe pushed the box toward a corner as if to cover it up. “Okay, okay. Let’s eat, let’s eat.”

Ye Susheng tugged at a corner of the carton, smiling innocently. “No need to hide it. After dinner, we can read it together~”

Hua Suihe clenched her molars. “Together, haha. Together…”

Ye Susheng ate fast. In five minutes, she’d set down her bowl and chopsticks. Seeing that Hua Suihe’s rice barely looked touched, she asked, “Does today’s food not suit your taste?”

Hua Suihe shook her head. “No, no. It’s really good.”

As she spoke, she put a small bite of vegetables into her mouth, chewing twenty times on purpose, deliberately dragging things out.

Ye Susheng’s mind wasn’t on the table either. After telling Hua Hua to eat slowly, she slipped into the room and dug out a full-color comic.

Then she came back and sat down beside Hua Suihe, happily flipping through it on her own.

Halfway through her meal, Hua Suihe caught, from the corner of her eye, that Ye Susheng’s red eyes had practically turned into red hearts. Her face was flushed from the heat-she looked like she was one step away from drooling onto the overlapping figures in the comic.

Ye Susheng suddenly looked up, her heart-eyed gaze full of longing as she stared at Hua Suihe. “Hua Hua, are you full?”

“Hua Hua, I’m so hungry.” Ye Susheng finally understood how that intense appetite could be relieved.

Looking at the people in the comic, she automatically put her own face and Hua Hua’s onto them. Thinking about doing that to Hua Hua-about Hua Hua making an expression even cuter than when she was drunk-made the desire burning in her chest flare all the way up into her eyes.

She really wanted to try it.

Hua Suihe hugged her bowl and shifted a little to the side. Ye Susheng’s gaze almost scorched her.

All of a sudden, she didn’t dare.

Wait. Her period still wasn’t completely over.

Hua Suihe let out a breath. The taut string inside her finally loosened, and she could eat properly.

Once she was full, she set down her bowl and chopsticks.

“I’ll wash the dishes.”

“I will, I will~” Ye Susheng was extremely enthusiastic. She stuffed the book in her hands into Hua Suihe’s. “Hua Hua should learn too.”

Hua Suihe calmly accepted the comic from her. “Thanks for the hard work, Ye Zi~”

Ye Susheng cleaned up quickly. When she came back, she saw Hua Suihe reading with obvious interest.

Ye Susheng was itching to try. “Hua Hua, did you learn it? Let’s try?”

Hua Suihe held back a laugh and lifted her eyes to look at her, putting on a regretful tone. “Not today. My period isn’t over yet.”

Ye Susheng looked blank. “Huh? We can’t?”

Hua Suihe thought of a great idea. Her brows lifted with delight, her gaze hinting at it. “You can. I can’t.”
