Chapter 66

Hua Suihe called Ye Susheng. Ye Susheng said she was at the village committee handling a dispute regarding the troupe renting houses and couldn’t come back for the time being, likely not returning until evening.

Hua Suihe thought of the person who had knocked on the door earlier. After getting the details, she didn’t press her. “Then go ahead and handle it. Just don’t get into a fight, okay? If there are a lot of them, make sure you protect yourself.”

“Relax, Hua Hua, my wife. I’ll protect myself. Mwah~”

Hua Suihe pinched her ear-it had gone a little numb-and answered with a soft “mwah” before hanging up.

At the village committee, Ye Susheng stared at the black mass of Anomalies in front of her. Her eyes held nothing but glaring disgust.

One after another, they talked over each other, complaining about the rage of running into so many fresh, tasty humans for the first time-and still not being able to eat them.

“Done?” Irritation surfaced between Ye Susheng’s brows. She released her Spiritual Pressure, blanketing every Anomaly and forcing them into silence.

“The Yu Sheng Troupe doesn’t need approval from any ugly freaks to requisition a venue. If you’ve got the ability, go home and deal with the players. If you don’t, then learn something.”

All the villagers were bound by rules-they couldn’t freely attack and harm players unless the player first harbored malice or greed toward them.

So far, only one villager had successfully been lured back home by a player. That left more than two hundred villagers with nowhere to go.

Ye Susheng’s gaze swept over them lazily. “Who was the idiot who went and knocked on a player’s door today?”

“Step out.”

She’d heard that commotion from far away. How could any Anomaly do something that stupid?

A woman who looked about thirty stepped out of the crowd. Pressing a hand to her forehead-blood still flowing-she admitted slowly, “Me.”

“I knocked on House 120 and House 121. The players wouldn’t open up for me.”

Ye Susheng’s relaxed air turned sharp in an instant. Her red eyes narrowed to vertical slits, and her black mist quietly expanded as she repeated, almost gently, “One-twenty-one?”

The woman was still lost in the memory of talking with Hua Suihe, and she complained loudly, “Yeah! That player’s way too smart. No matter what I said, she wouldn’t open the door. She even said we could talk after her wife got home, and that her wife was…”

“Hiss-her wife is…” Only then did the woman realize something was wrong. Her scalp went numb. Killing intent was already pressed against her temple; one wrong move and her already-shrunken brainstem would be dug right out.

“My wife is indeed smart.” Ye Susheng’s voice was openly proud, and the edge of her black mist drew back.

“House 121 is my wife. I’ve married her.”

The Anomalies were country folk from a backwater mountain hollow. They had no internet, no roads, and no contact with the outside world-original residents of this village through and through. This was the first time their village had been selected as a dungeon location.

No one had tipped them off. It was even their first time hearing of Ye Susheng.

Before meeting her, they’d had no respect for her at all.

But after gathering here and getting a blunt, violent warning from Ye Susheng, they all became obedient.

Under absolute Spiritual Pressure, Ye Susheng’s suppression of them was practically the same as the Thriller rules’ suppression.

Now that Ye Susheng had openly declared House 121 off-limits, no Anomaly with a death wish would challenge her authority again.

With the first day going badly, the Anomalies decided to use their collective brains and started discussing what method would make it easier to break through the players’ defenses.

Ye Susheng had no interest in listening to their nonsense. After finishing her little “ideological education,” she headed back into the village.

Someone had blown a suona again.

Ye Susheng twirled the long bamboo segment in her hand and strolled unhurriedly toward the house where the suona was sounding. She stepped through the front gate.

See? If the Anomalies didn’t have any work, she certainly didn’t lack it.

Players really did have ways of finding themselves a partner.

Hua Suihe took an afternoon nap. When she woke, dusk had already fallen. She walked out of her room and didn’t see Ye Susheng at home-yet the air was filled with the mouthwatering smell of food.
She walked into the kitchen and lifted the pot lid; the dishes kept warm inside were still steaming.

Another meal alone.

It was only the first day, and she was already incredibly bored. There were twenty-nine days left. If Ye Susheng was going to be this busy every day, she feared she might actually grow mushrooms in this old courtyard.

She needed to find something to do.

She had just contacted Ye Susheng, who said she wouldn’t be off work until after dark.

The sky still held a hint of sunset red; it would be a while before it turned completely dark.

Staying cooped up at home all day was stifling. Having eaten her fill, she wanted to walk around. After a moment’s thought, Hua Suihe opened the courtyard gate and stepped outside.

Having lived here for a day, aside from the woman who knocked during the day and the occasional sound of suona horns, there had been almost no activity.

And since Ye Susheng had already resolved the housing issues at the village committee today, the alley was now deserted.

Hua Suihe didn’t go far, pacing back and forth along a short stretch of road in front of the house to help her digestion.

Just then, someone else stepped out from a gate diagonally across from her.

Hua Suihe looked closely. It was a girl with ear-length short hair, a sharp and capable outfit, and striking, elegant features-a beauty with distinctive tan skin. It was the familiar Yi Shuang.

Clearly, Yi Shuang had seen her too.

She walked toward Hua Suihe. “Meeting again. You live here?”

Hua Suihe nodded and remarked sincerely, “You really do love playing the Yu Sheng Troupe dungeon games. I run into you every single time.”

The corners of Yi Shuang’s lips twitched into a faint, enigmatic smile. “Yeah, I really love playing dungeons.”

Hua Suihe didn’t mind her tone. She looked around; there was no one else nearby. “I’m just out for a walk after dinner. It’s getting late, so I’m heading home now.”

Yi Shuang called out to stop her, then asked a very forward question: “Does Ye Susheng sleep with you at night?”

“I mean, I hope you don’t misunderstand. I don’t want to know what you two do at night… er.” Yi Shuang shut her mouth, cutting off the unnecessary explanation.

Hua Suihe hadn’t originally thought much of it, but Yi Shuang’s follow-up successfully sent her mind wandering. She gave an awkward laugh. “It’s fine, I know that’s not what you meant.”

“You wanted to ask if Ye Susheng works night shifts, right? This time, her job is on the day shift. Unless there’s an emergency, she shouldn’t be working at night.”

“Thank you.” Yi Shuang took a deep breath and pulled out her phone. “I’ll transfer that purchasing fee I promised you last time.”

It was the fifty-six thousand for the purchasing fee.

Hua Suihe thought for a moment before honestly pulling out her phone. She definitely wanted this money. She happily presented her payment code.

Yi Shuang didn’t hesitate, transferring two hundred thousand all at once.

“The extra is for the intel you gave me.”

Hua Suihe knew exactly what she meant by “intel.” After all, she was a player being “raised” by Ye Susheng’s leniency. “Thanks. I hope you have a good time playing.”

With that, Hua Suihe stopped chatting and turned back to her No. 121 old courtyard.

Yi Shuang watched her go. She had to admit that a Ye Susheng dungeon with Hua Suihe around was much easier to survive than before. To put it bluntly, the mad dog had been put on a leash.

“Sister Shuang?”

Yi Shuang snapped out of it and looked up to see Fang Ge peeking out from the door of No. 118, meeting those clear, innocent eyes.

Having been carried through two dungeons by Yi Shuang, Fang Ge had developed an inexplicable trust in her.

She knew she was supposed to be wary of other players in this mode, but after hearing voices through the door, she still wanted to greet Yi Shuang. She knew Yi Shuang wasn’t the type to exploit other players.
