Chapter 76

Ye Susheng returned quickly and helped Hua Suihe pack her bags.

Once the two suitcases were packed, Ye Susheng remembered that Hua Suihe hadn’t eaten lunch and hurried to cook some noodles.

It would be nearly evening by the time they drove back home, so she couldn’t let her go hungry.

The private car they booked arrived just in time; as soon as they finished eating, the driver called to say he had reached the village entrance.

“Should we let the neighbors take the leftover food we stored?”

“It’s fine, Hua Hua. After we move out, the family who owns this house will move back in. Someone will handle it.”

They took one last look around the yard to make sure nothing was left behind. Finally, they pulled their suitcases out and closed the courtyard gate.

“Let’s go, let’s go. Time to go home.”

Each of them handled a suitcase, and the only sound in the alley was the rolling of wheels.

Hua Suihe felt a twinge of regret. She hadn’t expected to leave without saying goodbye to everyone, but it wasn’t realistic to go door-to-door to bid farewell.

Ye Susheng tried to take the handle of the suitcase from her hand, but Hua Suihe didn’t let go. “No need, I can pull it myself for a while.”

The village entrance was just ahead, and the car was parked next to the stone monument.

They loaded the suitcases into the trunk and got into the car together.

[See you next time, Hua Hua~]

[I’m so sad. The dating show I follow every day is going on hiatus again.]

[Actually, for Hua Hua, it’s just moving to a new place to be with Ye Susheng. It’s not like she’s a player participating in a dungeon.]

[Hua Hua doesn’t even like opening her phone to livestream anymore. Those comments made me so angry; they were saying such nasty things.]

[I’ll always stay by Hua Hua’s side. Goodbye, Hua Hua.]

After a few hours on the road, they finally returned to the wooden cabin.

Seeing the familiar surroundings, Hua Suihe felt a bit dazed. This dungeon, in which she felt she had barely participated, had ended just like that.

Ye Susheng prepared dinner and called Hua Suihe to eat.

Noticing that Hua Suihe seemed distracted while eating, Ye Susheng put down her chopsticks. “Hua Hua? What’s wrong? Is it not good?”

Hua Suihe looked at her blankly for a moment. “Hmm? No, it’s quite delicious.”

“Is something on your mind, Hua Hua?” Ye Susheng was sensitive to her moods. Looking into Hua Suihe’s eyes, she could tell she was in a bad mood, though she didn’t know why.

“There’s one thing I can’t figure out.” Hua Suihe’s spirits were low, and she looked preoccupied. “Is it really that unacceptable for you to go easy on me in the Script Game?”

“Are you unhappy because of that?” Ye Susheng grew anxious. “Don’t take what those players said to heart. Once the next dungeon starts, I’ll deal with those foul-mouthed jerks.”

Hua Suihe let out a sudden laugh and teased, “You’re going to ‘deal’ with them? Won’t that make me, the ‘privileged player,’ even more hated?”

Ye Susheng’s red pupils constricted as a surge of anger rose within her. “They hate me. They just don’t have the ability to take their hatred out on me, so they target you. It’s all their fault.”

Hua Suihe was stunned for a moment, then instinctively reached out to rub her head. “Oh, don’t be angry, don’t be angry. I don’t care what they say. Besides, Ye Zi, you work very hard. We just need to be ourselves.”

“If it weren’t for them, Hua Hua wouldn’t be unhappy.” Moreover, Hua Suihe had already been kidnapped by players once today. In future dungeons, Ye Susheng could hardly guarantee that other players wouldn’t harbor the same wicked intentions.

Ye Susheng worried about Hua Suihe getting into an accident. Even attaching the black mist to her wasn’t enough to put her mind at ease; only by following her every step could she feel slightly relieved.

Seeing Ye Susheng’s eyes turn red, Hua Suihe quickly cupped her face and began to coax her. “Oh, don’t cry, don’t cry~ Why are you getting sad? I don’t care about them. They’re just outsiders. It’s okay, baby.”

“I’m not unhappy because of what they said. I was just thinking that I have no way to protect myself in critical moments. I need to find a way.”

As soon as Hua Suihe explained her reason, Ye Susheng’s tears became even more unstoppable. “It’s all my fault… I made Hua Hua feel so insecure…”
The more she tried to soothe her, the more she cried. Hua Suihe found it both funny and touching. She cupped Ye Susheng’s face in her hands, leaned in, and kissed her, pressing against her trembling lips, tracing their shape and drinking in her scent.

As they kissed, Ye Susheng pulled her into her arms, and they both lost themselves in the moment, forgetting their troubles.

Ye Susheng held her close, her kisses trailing downward. Having just showered, Hua Hua’s skin was warm, and the temperature of Ye Susheng’s lips felt just right against her. “Hua Hua, don’t be unhappy…”

“I feel safe as long as Ye Zi is here.” Hua Suihe didn’t want her to fall into an endless cycle of self-blame. Regarding the unexpected encounter with the creepy guy today, Ye Susheng was even more traumatized by it than she was.

It was precisely because of this that Hua Suihe was thinking about how to improve her self-defense capabilities to prevent such a situation from happening again.

Back in the real world, Hua Suihe had spent every day livestreaming from home. All her fitness activities were indoors, and she rarely went out, so she had never truly encountered any danger.

She had been too naive; there were bad people in society.

“Ye Zi, do you have to go to work at the troupe tomorrow?” Usually, on the day after a dungeon ended, Ye Susheng would first issue tasks to the players before continuing her time off.

Ye Susheng was still busy leaving red marks on her collarbone; she simply shook her head and didn’t speak.

Hua Suihe could only let her have her way and didn’t ask further.

They stayed up very late that night. When Hua Suihe woke up the next morning, she found Ye Susheng applying ointment to her. It was already past eight o’clock.

“No work today?” Her voice was raspy the moment she spoke.

“No work today. Everything is on a complete hiatus for a while.” Ye Susheng strongly suspected that the Horror System was secretly targeting her. During the last dungeon malfunction, the Thriller had screwed her over once.

That time, Hua Hua had been there to help her. If not for Hua Hua, she would have been reduced to a killing machine bound by the rules of the Thriller.

Now, her main body had grown much stronger. Although she still relied on the Horror World to exist, she was no longer controlled by the Thriller’s rules.

“Hua Hua is my everything. Hua Hua cannot abandon me.”

Hua Suihe tried to sit up, but a long-forgotten soreness in her waist kept her pinned down. At that moment, she intensely missed the healing hot spring in the village courtyard and couldn’t help but complain, “No more of this for the next week.”

Ye Susheng was used to having no restraint and knew she had been too rough last night. She only dared to weakly bargain, “Is three days okay?”

“No. Pull me up.” Hua Suihe reached out her hand toward her.

Ye Susheng put away the ointment and pulled Hua Suihe up from the bed. “Breakfast is ready. Hua Hua, go brush your teeth and eat.”

Hua Suihe didn’t give up on her plan. After resting for a day, she took Ye Susheng out shopping, intending to buy some self-defense tools.

They took a bus to the appropriate stop and then transferred to the subway line.

This time, they took the subway to the central business district. To their surprise, compared to their last visit, not only was the subway empty, but the streets were deserted as well.

Hua Suihe held Ye Susheng’s hand as they walked to the mall. Looking at the tightly closed doors, she fell into thought. “Is business that bad lately?”

She looked toward the street nearby. “The milk tea shop isn’t open either.”

Every shop was closed; she couldn’t even get a cup of milk tea if she wanted one.

Ye Susheng knew that the Thriller was spreading quickly. Area A of Great City had completely fallen. It had only recently been contaminated, and the newly mutated Anomalies hadn’t begun their activities yet.

At this moment, to get a normal cup of milk tea, one would have to travel to another district.

The distance between districts was too far for even the subway to reach.

Furthermore, the food made in shops within Anomaly zones wasn’t meant for human consumption. For the first time, Ye Susheng realized that in an area devoid of human activity, it was difficult even to get Hua Hua a cup of milk tea.

Thinking of this, Ye Susheng’s eyes dimmed slightly. She tightened her grip on Hua Suihe’s hand as if making a decision. “Hua Hua, let’s move.”

“Huh?” Hua Suihe couldn’t quite keep up with the jump in topic. “Weren’t we talking about milk tea?”

Ye Susheng’s tone was firm. “I want to move with Hua Hua. We’ll live in a beautiful house.”
