Novel Info

Ban Ting stared at the veterinarian in front of him, whose expression was dull and wooden. Meeting her hollow, numb gaze, he truly felt that death was near.

Why does it have to be a multiple-choice question!

Can’t I just refuse compensation? I don’t want cash or a corpse!

He couldn’t choose cash compensation, because you can’t exchange your pet for profit. If he wanted the pet’s corpse, he’d have to carry a several-hundred-pound python around-impossible!

The female doctor repeated, “Do you want cash or the body?”

No matter what he chose, it was death. Ban Ting thought about refusing both, but just as he was about to speak, another voice suddenly interrupted.

“Excuse me, may I ask, can the pet’s body be counted as compensation too?”

The female doctor’s pupils dilated, her pitch-black eyes fixed on Hua Suihe.

Pink hair, carrying a familiar scent.

Su Sheng’s girlfriend-can’t eat her.

She silently stepped back two paces, didn’t say a word, and turned to leave.

Ban Ting: ??

Hua Suihe was also confused, looking at Ban Ting in puzzlement. “Why did she leave? Weren’t you discussing compensation?”

Ban Ting snapped back to reality. Seeing Hua Suihe wearing a mask, he was so startled he fell to the ground, exclaiming, “You… aren’t you the one who left with Su Sheng?”

Hua Suihe blinked helplessly, her mind racing, and tried to reassure him, “You’re a player, right? Don’t be afraid, I’m a player too.”

This man seemed unhappy about her being close to Su Sheng. Since players and NPCs aren’t on the same side, Hua Suihe instantly understood his concern.

“I’m a player too. Su Sheng is my pet’s attending veterinarian. I’m on the player’s side and won’t leak information about other players to her, don’t worry.”

Ban Ting forced himself to calm down, only half listening to Hua Suihe’s words. “You mean Su Sheng is your veterinarian?”

Huh??

Did it sound like that? Something felt off.

Ban Ting quickly got up, glanced around, and saw that the veterinarian had disappeared-his chance to escape had come.

“Let’s go, let’s go!”

Having escaped a dead end, he now needed to find more players and get key information. Time was running out; the wall clock showed it was almost eleven thirty.

He sneaked around like a thief, avoiding crowds and occasionally looking up at the room numbers.

Hua Suihe, though unsure of what was happening, chose to follow him.

All around them, NPCs walked straight ahead without glancing at them. Hua Suihe didn’t know why Ban Ting was so nervous-maybe he was just really into the game. That kind of gaming spirit was admirable.

“Sir, sir?”

Hearing her gentle tone, Ban Ting’s hair stood on end. “Shh! Don’t let them notice us.”

Now, even hearing the word ‘sir’ made him anxious.

Finally, he found Room 333, the medicine storage room.

Without hesitation, he pushed the door open and pulled Hua Suihe in, quickly shutting the door behind them.

He slid down with his back against the door, sitting heavily on the floor, letting out a huge sigh of relief-he looked like his soul had left his body.

Hearing a noise in the room, Hua Suihe became alert. With a creak, the medicine cabinet door opened.

Hua Suihe grabbed a broom nearby, tense. “Who’s there?”

Had she been tricked by this guy? Was it a gang?

As she finished speaking, one, two, three, four, five, six people tumbled out of the cabinet.

Two women, four men.

Covered in dust and dirt, looking as if they’d been abused.

Hua Suihe: …

“What are you all doing?”

One of the girls scrambled to her feet, staring at Hua Suihe with suspicion. “Are you a player too?”

The girl wore a mask, so her face wasn’t visible, but her eyes were bright and lively-not the dead fish eyes of those monsters.

Six frightened birds, each looking at Hua Suihe with wary, fearful eyes. Anyone who didn’t know better would think Hua Suihe was bullying all six of them alone.
Hua Suihe gradually let out a sigh of relief, adjusted her mask, and fixed her round, bright eyes on them.

A voice called from the floor: “She’s a player, her veterinarian is Su Sheng, and she’s still alive.”

She’d been with Su Sheng, and was still alive.

Such niche wording.

As Hua Suihe listened, she realized that “still alive” meant not being eliminated.

She didn’t understand-was Ye Zi’s wife really that frightening? Wasn’t it just that the tasks and scripts they received had been issued by Ye Zi’s wife?

This was also why Hua Suihe wanted to discuss things with other players. Her tasks were sent directly from the game system, with very little content, leaving her with nowhere to start.

They probably got more information from Su Sheng.

The six people, realizing Hua Suihe wasn’t a dangerous creature, relaxed as well, but that didn’t mean they were in the mood for gossip.

One of the boys spoke up, “There’s only half an hour until midnight. We need to speed up and consolidate our information.”

They didn’t hide anything from Hua Suihe, the outsider, since they also needed new information from her.

“How should we address you?” the boy asked, looking at Hua Suihe.

“Just call me Peanut.” When you’re out, you use your online name.

They didn’t mind.

“Currently, we know the pet death rate in the hospital is abnormal, the medication the hospital gives to pets is problematic, and the backup case files and purchase contracts are in the director’s office. We need to upload this information online to clear the level.”

“We all have live-stream cameras, so uploading is easy-the main thing is how to avoid those things, and to find the director’s office.”

A girl looked at Hua Suihe. “Peanut, do you have any clues?”

“I know the director’s office is on the 8th floor, but I don’t know the room number. The elevator doesn’t go directly to the 8th floor.”

One of the boys’ faces turned very pale, and he muttered, “We can’t take the elevator.”

When he and another teammate had gone to look for clues on other floors, they entered the elevator. A doctor came in, leading a pet dog. When the doors closed, the little dog suddenly went berserk and ate his teammate.

A six-foot-tall man had half his body eaten by a corgi-sized dog in a single bite.

After the dog licked the blood clean from the floor, the veterinarian slowly pulled the pet dog away, stopping it from eating any more.

The elevator doors opened again-it was still the third floor.

The doctor left with the dog. He survived, but never dared to take the elevator again.

It was his first time being pulled into a game instance; he’d never seen anything like this. The fact that he didn’t lose his mind on the spot showed his strong nerves. Now, every time he closed his eyes, he saw that bloody scene.

“Has anyone tried the emergency exit?”

The group fell silent.

Hua Suihe added another piece of information: “There’s a security guard at the exit of the 8th floor stairwell who checks IDs.”

The mention of the security guard made everyone’s hearts sink.

“The eighth floor-how are we supposed to get up there? There’s definitely someone guarding the stairwell.”

Ban Ting got up from the floor. “I exchanged information with another player. He said there’s an elevator that’s safe.”

“We can take the elevator to the seventh floor, then walk up to the eighth. That way, we can avoid running into anything in the stairwell.”

“But there’s still the guard. Water Cube, you’re a veteran player-do you have any items that can control the guard?”

Water Cube was one of only two veteran players in the team. His livestream had ten thousand viewers, and he was experienced and steady, which was why people wanted to watch.

Water Cube shook his head heavily. “No, I used all my points to trade for life-saving items.”

The rebirth item cost ten thousand points, and he’d only saved up enough after passing five game instances.

The other veteran player also fell silent.

The clock struck twelve-the chimes were harsher and more piercing than ever.
