Marry the NPC with Money, Wife Comes Knocking - Chapter 88
Chapter 88
Hua Suihe remained in character as the true daughter. “I won’t disturb your lives. I’ll find a place to move out in a while.”
Following the script, the several brothers also delivered their harsh lines.
But Xia Moyi did not. Her expression was displeased, and her tone was sharp. “Don’t talk to Sister like that. She’s suffered for over ten years out there and has finally come home. We must treat her well.”
Turning back to Hua Suihe, she added, “Sister, don’t take their words to heart. Just stay with us. A house is only lively when there are many people. I’ve been looking forward to your return ever since I heard you were coming back.”
The five-minute short script ended with the brothers’ hypocritical apologies.
The countdown on the wall clock finished with a series of beeps. Two of the boys’ expressions darkened instantly, their eyes filled with resentment as they glared at Xia Moyi.
Fan Jian exploded in a fit of rage. “Number 68, what the hell do you mean? Why did you change your lines on a whim during the performance? Do you think that makes you look cool? Don’t you know our performance is being graded?”
“If we get eliminated because of you, I won’t let you off!”
After throwing out his threat, Fan Jian left behind a fuming silhouette as he slammed the door and stormed out.
Mu Tou agreed with Fan Jian’s words, his expression equally sour. However, his gaze lingered on Hua Suihe for two seconds before he ultimately said nothing and followed him out of the room.
Yu Yan pinched the bridge of his nose with a troubled look. “That really was… not the performance of a professional actor. I just hope we don’t get eliminated.”
Seeing that Xia Moyi looked upset, Yu Yan didn’t have the heart to scold her further. He forced out a bit of consolation. “There must be groups that performed worse than us. Don’t be sad yet.”
He had a people-pleasing personality, but even he couldn’t comfort himself right now. He left the room with a series of sighs and a long face.
Now, only Xia Moyi and Hua Suihe remained in the room.
After being chewed out by Fan Jian, Xia Moyi finally realized how serious the consequences of changing her lines could be for the team-it might even lead to their elimination.
Endless self-reproach welled up in her heart, and she felt a wave of regret for her impulsiveness.
Seeing her looking down in frustration, Hua Suihe instinctively patted her shoulder.
“It’s okay. If you look at it closely, your lines actually had a bit of a ‘green tea’ vibe, so your character persona didn’t break. It’s common for actors to improvise during a performance. Besides, the scene flowed very smoothly without any hiccups. We did great.”
Hua Suihe’s warm comfort reached her, and her mood calmed down a bit. “Sister Ah-He…”
“Hua Hua!”
Hua Suihe looked toward the sound. A glamorous woman with white hair, wearing a red dress, was leaning against the doorframe. She held a sunflower in her hand, looking expectantly for her lover.
Hua Suihe was amused by her deliberately struck pose and started walking toward her. Halfway there, she remembered something and looked back at Xia Moyi.
“Xia… Moyi, once the recording is over, do you want to grab some late-night snacks together tonight?”
Xia Moyi’s dimmed eyes lit up again. She nodded repeatedly with anticipation, her tone becoming much more cheerful. “Okay! See you tonight!”
Hua Suihe gave a slight nod and continued toward Ye Susheng. She took the vibrant sunflower from her hand and naturally interlaced their fingers. “Weren’t you watching from outside the whole time? When did you go buy a flower?”
Ye Susheng walked down the hallway hand-in-hand with her. After a moment of silence, she suddenly mimicked in a mocking tone, “See you tonight~~”
Hua Suihe’s pace faltered slightly. She brushed the sunflower against Ye Susheng’s cheek. Seeing the other woman turn her head away to avoid it, she couldn’t help but want to tease her further. “What’s wrong? Weren’t you the one who asked me out for snacks tonight?”
Hua Suihe continued to playfully mimic Ye Susheng’s earlier words. “I remember someone telling me, ‘Wife Hua Hua worked so hard today, I have to treat her to a lavish feast as a reward~'”
“But it’s still the two of us.”
Ye Susheng lifted a hand and brushed the strands of hair that had stuck to her cheek aside. She pouted, her eyes turning red around the rims, looking so wronged it was painful to see.
“This is our date. If Hua Hua calls in a third person, it doesn’t even count as a date anymore.”
The black mist over her body rippled, faintly on the verge of surging out.
Ye Susheng lowered her head and wiped away the tears that were about to fall.
Hua Suihe caught her chin and turned her face back toward her. “Hmm? Someone’s sneaking a cry again? What a little crybaby~”
Ye Susheng grabbed her, spun her around, and pinned her to the wall.
The black mist wrapped Hua Suihe up like soft cotton.
Then Ye Susheng bent down and kissed those vividly red lips.
Only when she felt the other woman trying to push her away did she ease up, slowing the intensity of the kiss.
Her kisses trailed downward, lingering.
In the end, she was panting, burying her face in Hua Hua’s neck, holding her there just to feel her warmth.
“Hua Hua, don’t joke about this.”
Ye Susheng shut her eyes, forcing down the madness and greedy craving that threatened to spill over.
Her voice grew gentler-so gentle it was almost too controlled.
“Hua Hua, you talked to her so much today.”
“Don’t like her.”
“You promised you’d only like me.”
Hua Suihe tilted her head slightly back, letting Ye Susheng lick and kiss at her neck.
Hua Hua had one arm draped over Ye Susheng’s shoulder.
The other hand rested at Ye Susheng’s waist, stroking absentmindedly.
The motion was exactly like smoothing down the fur of a small pet.
“Yes.”
“I like Ye Zi the most.”
“Not ‘the most.'”
“Only.”
After stressing the word, Ye Susheng opened her mouth and gave the skin she was pressed against a bite-a warning.
Hua Suihe’s body shivered.
She immediately went along with her. “Right. I only like you-my wife, Ye Zi.”
Seeing Ye Susheng finally steady a little, Hua Suihe began to explain.
“I’m sorry I ruined tonight’s date.”
“But there are things I had to make clear to her.”
“There’s history between me and her. It’s something I have to deal with.”
“I know.”
“She’s someone Hua Hua raised.”
Hua Suihe paused, then nodded. “Mm. You could say that.”
“I’ve spent a lot of time and money on her.”
“I raised her well, in a sense.”
“So I don’t want her to have any wrong ideas about me.”
“I don’t want her misunderstanding who I am to her.”
Ye Susheng couldn’t stand hearing it.
Jealousy seeped into her lungs, twisting through her chest until her thoughts wouldn’t settle.
The black mist turned into soft, pliant ropes.
They coiled around Hua Suihe’s wrists.
They circled her slender waist.
They wrapped her ankles.
As if Ye Susheng wanted to lock Hua Suihe completely inside her own world.
“Hua Hua… Hua Hua…”
“I want Hua Hua to touch me.”
“I want Hua Hua to hold me…”
Ye Susheng hugged Hua Suihe tight against her chest.
The black mist tangled around them too.
But even that much contact wasn’t enough.
It didn’t calm the agitation and insecurity churning in her heart.
Hua Suihe soothed the flaring-up Ye Susheng with practiced ease.
“My eyes only have Ye Susheng in them.”
“I mean it.”
“When there was only a screen between us…”
“…the only person I could see was you.”
“Hua Hua… Hua Hua…”
Ye Susheng choked up softly, calling Hua Suihe’s name over and over.
No one knew how long it took.
Eventually, she managed to talk herself down.
Only then did she loosen her hold on Hua Suihe, little by little.
She agreed to sacrifice tonight’s date.
She would let Hua Hua go talk things through with the one surnamed Xia.
Ye Susheng couldn’t accept a love rival she couldn’t kill.
She had no sense of security.
Best case, once it was all made clear, that woman would have the sense to back off.
If something wasn’t hers to want, she shouldn’t be wanting it.
The entire recording ran for seven hours.
In the lounge, Hua Suihe had already eaten two boxes of strawberries.
A piece of cake.
A cup of milk tea…
She was starving.
Finally, as the time crept close to eleven at night, all the performances ended.
The elimination list was announced.
As expected, their group wasn’t eliminated.
The members of the eliminated team all stayed behind.
Everyone else could leave first.
A production crew this big still didn’t provide food.
Everyone was so hungry their stomachs were practically stuck to their backs as they trudged back to the hotel to buy their own meals.
Ye Susheng booked a table at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant.
Ye Susheng sat with Hua Suihe.
Xia Moyi sat across from them.
Ye Susheng propped her head up with one hand.
Her brows were shadowed, her gaze dark as she stared at the outsider.
