Chapter 90

Daytime arrived, and with it, another segment of the reality show recording.

To make the program more interesting, the director had arranged a haunted house exploration segment for today. Perhaps it was a last-minute addition, as the haunted house didn’t look very large from the outside.

Yesterday, the bottom ten in individual popularity were eliminated. In the performances, two groups were eliminated per batch; with four batches, that meant eight groups-or forty people-were cut. In total, fifty people had been eliminated in a single day.

While the crowd seemed a bit smaller, it still meant this haunted house, which one could see the end of at a single glance, had to fit 150 people. Wouldn’t that mean there would be companions no matter where one walked?

“Hua Hua, I applied for an NPC role, so I can go in with Hua Hua~” Ye Susheng waved a work badge in front of Hua Suihe, looking very satisfied with her new status.

The other players standing nearby looked ashen. They knew fate wouldn’t let them off easy; a real Anomaly had snuck into the haunted house.

Hua Suihe glanced at the information on the badge. It only had a name and the three letters: “NPC.” “Ye Zi, do you need to put on makeup?”

Like in traditional haunted houses-wearing white clothes, smearing on some bloodstains, or attaching a long tongue.

Hua Suihe imagined a “remodeled” Ye Susheng in her mind, and her brows furrowed involuntarily. The image was too “beautiful” to behold.

Ye Susheng tilted her head and thought for a moment. “Hua Hua, do you think I don’t look professional enough like this?”

Currently, Ye Susheng wore a black lace headband with a white rose pinned to the side. She was dressed in a short black and red dress, the skirt puffed out by a petticoat and adorned with a ring of black and red roses along the hem.

With her flawless skin and exquisite features, she looked exactly like a meticulously dressed-up western doll.

If all the NPC workers in the haunted house were in this style, the place would surely be very crowded.

Hua Suihe kissed her cheek and praised, “You’re professional. Your beauty makes me look good.”

[Why is Hua Hua wearing a high-neck knit dress? Is it because she doesn’t like showing her collarbones?]

[I feel like so much can happen in the half-hour when the stream is off. I’m starting to wonder if time flows differently in the game.]

[I really want to transmigrate into the game to fall in love, *slurp slurp*~]

[This is a Thriller game. If you transmigrate, you won’t become Hua Hua; you’ll just become a player.]

[Forget it, forget it. A player’s life is too bitter.]

At that moment, the program staff explained the rules to them. “Welcome, everyone, to today’s haunted house game. Players must find the exit of the haunted house within three hours. A warm reminder: do not trust anyone easily. NPC actors might be right beside you.”

In other words, aside from Ye Susheng, who had already shown her cards, the rest of them were divided into two camps.

“Alright, after everyone enters the door, you will be randomly assigned to different locations. Good luck to you all.”

Although the haunted house looked small from the outside, this was a game world. After the screen faded to black, the internal space would expand.

Hua Suihe and Ye Susheng held hands, and after entering, they spawned together.

Quite a few people landed in the same place as them, but the moment they caught sight of Ye Susheng, they scrambled away on all fours.

Hua Suihe watched the speed at which they vanished and couldn’t help but be speechless.

“They’re still so afraid of you,” Hua Suihe remarked. She glanced to her side and happened to meet Ye Susheng’s eyes, which were as red as a beast’s.

“Wow!” Hua Suihe looked on in disbelief. “Ye Zi, how are your eyes glowing?”

In the dim environment, that pair of red eyeballs seemed to hang in the air, looking quite cool. She hadn’t seen Ye Susheng’s eyes glow before. Could it be that she was wearing colored contacts today? Was there fluorescent agent in the contacts?
Hua Suihe was about to lean in for a closer look.

A cold hand slid across her waist.

In the next second, she was turned to the side.

Her gaze landed on the wall beside her.

The faint light barely managed to illuminate the surface.

Still, it was enough to make out the chaotic bloody handprints smeared across it.

The wall itself looked like it had been built out of bones.

Uneven.

Jagged.

Pitted and bumpy.

Hua Suihe didn’t dare stare for long.

She forced herself to joke. “This haunted house is pretty realistic.”

She tried to turn her head to look at Ye Susheng.

But her head was pushed back again.

Whoever was behind her clearly refused to let her see.

“What’s wrong, Ye Zi, my wife?”

Ye Susheng wrapped her arms around Hua Suihe from behind.

She pressed her face into Hua Suihe’s hair.

“Hua Hua, don’t look,” Ye Susheng whispered.

“I’m so ugly.”

Every Anomaly had signs of Anomalization.

Ye Susheng called them “ugly freaks,” because an Anomaly mid-Anomalization was genuinely, horrifyingly ugly.

And Ye Susheng herself was an Anomaly.

Which meant she could Anomalize too.

She knew what she looked like when it happened.

Ugly.

Absolutely not to Hua Hua’s tastes.

She hadn’t Anomalized in a long time.

Because once she did…

She would become unnaturally excited.

She would lose control.

She would become more bloodthirsty.

And the urge to kill would surge until it drowned out everything else.

“Hua Hua.”

Ye Susheng struggled to hold her emotions together, forcing her tone to stay steady.

“Hua Hua, can you walk on ahead by yourself, okay?”

“I need to work.”

“I’ll come find you in a little while.”

Hua Suihe felt it clearly.

The breath Ye Susheng exhaled as she spoke was cold.

Not just cool-cold.

And the person pressed to her back was cold all over.

Her body temperature was wrong.

Hua Suihe’s worry spiked. “What’s going on with you?”

“Be good, Hua Hua. This is my job. I need to go handle things for a bit.”

Ye Susheng didn’t want her to worry.

She held her greedily for a moment longer.

Then she forced herself to let go.

Hua Suihe still felt something was off.

But she didn’t manage to catch Ye Susheng’s hand.

By the time she turned around, Ye Susheng was already gone.

It was so weird.

Just earlier, when Hua Suihe praised her eyes for glowing, Ye Susheng hadn’t said a word.

Normally, if Hua Suihe complimented her even a little, she’d practically turn into a clingy puppy.

Hua Suihe called her name.

No one answered.

She really had left.

[The light was too dim. Couldn’t see what happened to Ye Susheng.]

[Her eyes glow. My dog’s eyes glow too.]

[Out of line! Are you calling Ye Susheng a dog?]

[Hua Hua is doing the dungeon alone… I’m kind of worried.]

[Why do those players have items, but our Hua Hua has nothing? Aren’t they all players?]

[Item tipping not unlocked. Streamer Level too low.]

Hua Suihe checked her Streamer Level.

Sure enough, a bunch of entries in the Gift Bar were still locked.

And as her level increased, the newly unlocked gifts only got more expensive.

Even more of a cash grab than her old streaming job.

With Ye Susheng not by her side, Hua Suihe couldn’t settle down.

But she couldn’t just stand here and wait either.

After a brief moment of hesitation, she picked one of the branching paths.

She chose a route in hopes of running into Ye Susheng while she was “working.”

“Peanut… is that you?”

The sudden call made Hua Suihe stop.

A lean man stood ahead.

In the low light, she could only make out his outline at first.

He walked toward her on his own.

As he approached, his features gradually became clear.

It was Mu Tou-yesterday’s teammate.

“You’re alone?” he asked.

“Are you a White Body?”

“Can I team up with you?”

After the NPC performers came in, things had gotten more brutal.

That was why he could tell at a glance that Hua Suihe was still normal.

But Hua Suihe refused him. “No. I’m waiting for Ye Susheng. Go find someone else.”

Ever since the last time she’d been set up by a male player who’d completely lost it, she couldn’t help but stay on guard around other players.
