If things followed the plot of a TV drama, the next step would be for Qin Zhi to find someone to thank me.

I stayed right outside his hospital room, refusing to go anywhere. I waited there so I could appear the very second he came looking for me.

After another ten hours of waiting, his assistant finally called me.

“Hello, Miss Xia. I am Mr. Qin’s assistant. Do you have time to come to the hospital? Mr. Qin would like to thank you in person.”

“Yes, yes, yes! I’m right outside the door.”

I pushed the door open while still holding my phone.

Qin Zhi clearly hadn’t expected me to arrive so quickly.

“You never left?”

I nodded.

He pursed his lips and handed me a filled-out check.

“This is five million. Besides this, is there anything else you want?”

I said, “I don’t want money.”

His brows furrowed.

“Then what do you want?”

Recalling the plots from those dramas, I said shyly, “Can you make me pork liver rice for a year?”

That day, Qin Zhi froze for dozens of seconds, as if he couldn’t believe his own ears.

However, in an act of great mercy, he eventually took me home with him. He had his chef rotate through different recipes to make me delicious food.

To repay him, I tried to act like a drama heroine by picking out the ingredients he didn’t like. After I picked out every last sprig of cilantro from the stir-fried beef and tossed them onto a tissue, I blinked at Qin Zhi, fishing for a compliment.

Qin Zhi stared at me for a long time. Finally, as if he had been struggling internally for a while, he asked, “You don’t eat cilantro?”

I shook my head. “No, I eat it. I was just picking it out for you. So, am I thoughtful or what?”

Isn’t that how it always goes in dramas? The male lead doesn’t eat cilantro, so the female lead helps him pick it out.

Qin Zhi let out a dry chuckle. “Well, thank you, but I do eat cilantro. Otherwise, why would I have him make cilantro stir-fried beef?”

Oops. How embarrassing.

I gave a couple of awkward laughs and buried my face in my bowl, shoveling rice in silence.

Actually, Qin Zhi was a really good person. He was practically a living saint-handsome, kind-hearted, and he had a killer waist. Every day, he’d feed the mouth I have up top, and then he’d feed the other one while he was at it.

I wasn’t sure if we were officially ‘together.’ But based on my years of observing humans, I figured we were.

After all, we lived together every day, slept in the same bed, and did the same thing. Plus, we kissed. In dramas, only boyfriends and girlfriends kiss.

A year passed, and I had gained quite a bit of weight. Even Aunt Wang, who cooked for me every day, teased me.

“Miss Xia has a little belly now! Is there a little baby in there?”

I laughed it off. “How could that be? We always…”

My smile suddenly froze.

Oh no. My period hadn’t come for two months straight.

It couldn’t be real, could it?

The chicken drumstick in my hand suddenly lost its appeal. I rushed to wash my hands and ordered pregnancy tests for delivery.

It wasn’t until I saw two clear, distinct red lines on three different brands of pregnancy tests that I finally accepted the truth.

The sky was falling.

I was pregnant.
