Chapter 3

The moment the lounge door closed, the world seemed to go silent.

The Inducer wasn’t just aimed at me.

It was also aimed at Gu Xubai.

He loosened his tie, his brow furrowed deeply.

I leaned against the vanity, my breathing already erratic.

The air was thick with Pheromones.

My scent of strong liquor.

His cedar scent.

They tangled together, like a brawl, yet also like a kiss.

I was so startled by the thought that I wanted to curse myself.

Gu Xubai pulled out an injection and handed it to me.

“High-Grade Blocker.”

“Where did you get that?”

“I had it ready since my previous life.”

I looked at the needle but didn’t take it.

Gu Xubai frowned. “Take it.”

“What about you?”

“I don’t need it.”

“Stop talking nonsense.”

He looked at me, his voice heavy.

“If I use a blocker, I won’t be able to sense when you lose control.”

I froze.

This man was usually as cold as a block of ice.

Yet when he said things like this, it was the most lethal.

I stared at him for a few seconds before suddenly asking, “When you bit me at the harbor in our previous life, did you already know it wasn’t just an ordinary Temporary Mark?”

Gu Xubai didn’t flinch.

“I knew.”

“You really had some nerve.”

“You were dying.”

“So you used yourself as a test subject?”

“The results proved that the gamble paid off.”

My fingers tightened.

In the rules of the ABO world, it was almost impossible for an Alpha to effectively Mark another Alpha.

But in my previous life, he really had saved me.

This meant that from the very beginning, the so-called ‘Double Alpha’ status was a lie.

I put the blocker back and looked up at him.

“I’m not taking it.”

Gu Xubai’s gaze darkened. “Are you crazy?”

“I want to confirm something.”

“What?”

“To what extent we’ve been tampered with.”

With that, I reached up and tore off the Blocking Patch on the back of my neck.

The air instantly grew hotter.

Gu Xubai’s breathing became noticeably heavier.

He stared at the back of my neck, his gaze stretched to the limit.

“Shao Jianxing.”

“What do you smell right now?”

He remained silent for a few seconds, his voice rasping.

“Not an Alpha.”

As those three words fell, my mind went blank.

Not an Alpha.

Ever since I manifested at sixteen, every record stated I was a top-tier Alpha.

The Shao Family had raised me as one.

But now, Gu Xubai was telling me…

I wasn’t.

“Say that again.”

“You have an Omega reaction in your body that has been suppressed for a long time.”

He looked at me, enunciating every word clearly.

“It’s usually covered up entirely by an inhibition regimen. It only reveals itself under the stimulation of a High-Match Partner’s Pheromones.”

My hands and feet went cold.

Suddenly, I remembered many things.

The ridiculously high doses of Inhibitor I took during my adolescence.

The shifting, evasive eyes of the doctors during my physical exams.

The way my father never allowed anyone to touch the back of my neck.

It wasn’t that my constitution was special.

It was that they had been lying to me all along.

“What do we do now?” I asked.

“Two options.”

“Tell me.”

“You take the blocker and endure through today.”

“The other one?”

Gu Xubai paused for a second.

“I give you a new Mark.”

Silence instantly filled the air.

I stared at him.

He stared back at me.

Someone was knocking on the door outside.

They said the elders were looking for us.

They said things were getting chaotic outside.

But right now, the only thing I could hear was the sound of my own heartbeat.

“Gu Xubai.”

“Yeah.”

“Have you been eyeing the back of my neck for a long time?”

He actually nodded.

“I’ve been eyeing it since my previous life.”

The tips of my ears flushed hot.

“You’re truly shameless.”

“Only with you.”

This man was absolutely insane today.

Yet, I found myself unable to refuse.

Because I knew that if I went out now, something would definitely happen.

And even more so because I wanted to know the truth.

I placed the blocker on the table and looked up at him.

“There’s no time.”

Gu Xubai asked, “Are you sure?”

“Cut the crap.”

“It will hurt.”

“You didn’t give me any warning in our last life either.”

He let out a low chuckle.

In the next second, his hand landed on the back of my neck.

With just a gentle touch, my legs went weak.

Gu Xubai supported my waist, his voice low and burning.

“Remember this clearly.”

“This time, it’s not to save a life.”

“It’s because I want to Mark you.”

As the words fell, he bit down.

It hurt.

But the Pheromones were even more aggressive.

Cedar, cold sweetness, strong liquor, and heat-all of it collided.

I gripped his clothes, my breathing utterly chaotic.

Gu Xubai didn’t bite hard, but his pressure was steady.

It felt like a plunder, yet also like a consolation.

A few seconds later, the heat that was driving me mad was finally suppressed slightly by him.

I looked at him, panting.

“Gu Xubai.”

“Yeah.”

“Once this is over, I’m definitely settling the score with you.”

He leaned down and brushed his forehead against mine.

“Alright.”

“Stay alive to settle it first.”
