Painting Enchantment - chapter 6
The Prefect really let me go.
He even kindly pointed out the way for me.
I followed the Yellow Springs, heading back the way I came, afraid I’d forget the direction home, so I walked as fast as I could.
But my feet felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, every step a struggle.
I walked on and on.
Once again, I saw that familiar door.
And that familiar person.
My Husband stood outside the door.
Snow clung to his sleeves, his dark hair lifted by the wind, as if he had been waiting for me for a long time.
Those long, narrow eyes that had moved my heart countless times slowly lifted.
I collapsed in front of the house, utterly exhausted.
All I could hear was his soft question.
“Zhou Yan, why did you come back?”
The hands that once gripped my throat now gently caressed my face.
Because one must repay what one has received.
I wanted to say it.
I came back to repay him.
But I opened my lips and couldn’t answer at all.
I was so tired, I just wanted to sleep.
I never expected that after sleeping, I would forget everything.
……
I clutched my head, unable to make a sound from the pain, tears trembling on the bed.
When the pain nearly made me faint, someone wrapped their arms around my waist, holding me tightly.
Cool, gentle fingertips wiped away my dirty tears.
My mind gradually cleared.
That almost stunning face came into focus before my eyes.
“Lu Yanzhi.”
I called his name.
“…Does it hurt?”
My body trembled, and I suddenly pushed him away.
On the night I died, he had asked me the same thing.
The painful memory reminded me.
It was this man who killed me.
Pushed away by me, Lu Yanzhi wasn’t angry. He simply kept his distance, straightened his sleeves, and leaned against the bed.
After a long while, he spoke slowly.
“You came back from the Yellow Springs, so you must have met the Yellow Springs Lord. Does he look just like me?”
Seeing I didn’t refute him, his smile deepened.
Then he changed the subject-
“He wouldn’t let you go for no reason. He must have asked something of you. Since you’re back, you must have agreed.”
“Zhou Yan, speak.”
“Do you want to kill me?”
