Peerless Spirit Master - Chapter 16
“No rooms left! Really, there are no rooms left! Waiting here won’t help you!”
The shouting at the front of the crowd continued. Ye Guilan looked at the situation and couldn’t help but tug at Ye He’s sleeve.
“Father, this place has no rooms left. Should we go somewhere else?”
Ye He smiled and said there was no need, then took his daughter’s hand and led her around the crowd toward the back of the shop. Behind the shop, a man was waiting. When he saw Ye He approaching, he immediately greeted him with a broad smile, “Are you Mr. Ye?”
Ye He nodded and took out a card. The man smiled even more brightly upon seeing it. “Please, come inside! Please, come inside!”
A hidden door was pushed open. Ye Guilan watched the man bow and scrape, and she vaguely understood what was happening.
Sure enough, with money, there’s no need to worry about finding a room.
The room’s size and amenities were clearly VIP-level. The attendant smiled obsequiously, “Mr. Ye, this is your room. Is there anything else you need?”
“Prepare a meal.”
“Of course, of course. It will be ready soon.”
“Guilan, I’m going to check on some medicinal herbs later. You should rest here. This isn’t Lan City, so don’t wander around casually.”
“Can I go with you, Father?”
Ye Guilan’s eyes lit up at the mention of medicinal herbs. She didn’t want to miss any opportunity to observe, even if it was just selecting herbs.
“It might be a bit dull.”
“That’s fine. I want to go with you.”
“Alright, if you have any questions, just ask. I’ll tell you everything.”
Ye Guilan nodded repeatedly. After a while, the food was brought in. Just as the father and daughter were about to start eating, another dish was served.
“Lord Ye, this is one of the dishes from our specially prepared Magical Beast Feast.”
Sitting there, Ye Guilan looked at the enticing dish and felt her stomach churn, a wave of nausea washing over her.
“Urgh-!”
She quickly stood up and rushed to the side, retching repeatedly.
“Guilan, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Ye He hurried over, raising his hand to gently pat Ye Guilan’s back. Ye Guilan looked up, “Father, what was that last dish? The smell made me feel sick.”
“It’s Magical Beast meat, a specialty here…”
“Take it away.”
Ye He frowned and spoke in a low voice. The attendant didn’t dare say another word and immediately took the dish out.
Once the dish was removed and the smell faded, Ye Guilan felt much better. Ye He quickly opened the window to let the air circulate faster.
“Father, I’m alright now.”
Ye Guilan said, “Maybe the Spiritual Pressure earlier made me uncomfortable, and my body overreacted.”
After a while, Ye Guilan felt less nauseous. The father and daughter ate a few bites, with Ye He watching her closely, worried she might feel unwell again.
Originally, Ye He hadn’t wanted Ye Guilan to come along, but after her repeated assurances, he finally agreed to take her out with him.
Walking beside Ye He, Ye Guilan looked around curiously. There were many people, and it was hard not to bump into others while walking.
“Sorry.”
Ye Guilan was accidentally bumped by someone, who apologized. She replied that it was fine and moved aside.
Ye He reached out, took her wrist, and brought her closer to his side. “It’s crowded. I’ll shield you.”
Ye Guilan smiled and followed Ye He all the way to the area where medicinal herb shops were clustered. Every shop was bustling with customers, and business was booming.
Ye He began selecting herbs, and Ye Guilan followed him from shop to shop. She hardly recognized any of the herbs displayed in these stores.
If she didn’t understand something, she asked, and Ye He always answered.
Father and daughter chatted as they bought herbs, and Ye He’s generous purchases made every shopkeeper beam with joy.
After visiting more than a dozen shops, Ye He still wanted to continue, but Ye Guilan was starting to feel tired.
She had asked many questions earlier and now needed time to process everything. She also wanted to sit down and rest for a while.
Seeing that his daughter was tired, Ye He thoughtfully led her to a quieter spot. “Wait here for me. I’ll be back soon with the things I need.”
Ye Guilan nodded and watched him leave.
“I heard this shop just got new stock.”
“Which kind? Beast Rings, gauntlets, or staff tips and daggers?”
Hearing the conversation, Ye Guilan looked up and saw that just a few steps away was a weapon shop, also doing brisk business with many people coming and going.
Since arriving in this world, she hadn’t properly seen any weapons, so her curiosity was piqued.
Inside the weapon shop, various armors and blades hung on the walls, and there were different display cases filled with all sorts of items.
Ye Guilan didn’t know what they were, and the original Miss Ye hadn’t known either.
Carefully walking inside, Ye Guilan stopped in front of a small counter.
Inside the counter were many ring-shaped items, all different in appearance.
“Move aside, you’re in my way.”
Someone spoke up behind her, and at the same time, someone gave her a shove.
Ye Guilan turned around. A young woman was standing next to her, looking especially sour-faced, her words harsh: “You’re just at the Apprentice Level. What are you doing looking at Beast Rings?”
Ye Guilan raised her eyebrows slightly, stepped aside, and turned to look at something else.
After making a round, she was about to head out. Just then, someone came in from outside at a brisk pace.
Ye Guilan quickly moved aside. The person entering was chatting with a companion, not watching the way, and pushed the door open to walk in.
Bang.
The person coming in from outside collided head-on with someone trying to leave.
Both were knocked backward, bumping into even more bystanders in the process.
Ye Guilan wasn’t hit. She tried to step past them and exit, when suddenly a hand darted out and yanked her hair.
Her scalp tightened painfully, and Ye Guilan instantly turned around.
She saw that same sour-faced young woman lying on the ground, her expression twisted as she clung fiercely to Ye Guilan’s hair, seemingly trying to use it to pull herself up.
“Let go of my hair!”
Ye Guilan was in so much pain that she hurriedly grabbed her own hair to ease the force a little.
The girl pinned underneath obviously had no intention of letting go. She even snapped, “Are you dead or something? Can’t you lend a hand?”
Ye Guilan didn’t waste any more words. She pulled out a small knife and made a swift cut at the end of her hair.
“Ah!”
The girl, now clutching a handful of cut hair, fell back to the ground. Someone getting up beside her happened to step on her face.
“Hey, you…!”
The girl was stepped on again by someone next to her. She scrambled up from the ground, but by then Ye Guilan had already slipped out the door.
Ye He soon returned after buying the herbs, only to see his daughter coming out of the weapon shop.
“Guilan, what happened to your hair?”
He noticed a whole length of his daughter’s hair was gone. Ye Guilan smiled. “It’s nothing, just a bit shorter and cooler now.”
Ye He wanted to say more, but Ye Guilan tugged at his sleeve. “Dad, let’s go home after shopping. I’m a bit tired.”
As soon as he heard she was tired, Ye He didn’t hesitate and led her home.
Ye Guilan couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. This was a Third-Rank City, and that girl just now was obviously trouble. Although Ye He was wealthy, there were only three people in the Ye family. They couldn’t possibly stand against any of the other families.
They might have financial resources, but not the strength.
She couldn’t cause trouble for her father-not until she became strong enough herself.
Father and daughter returned to their lodgings. Only then did Ye He realize he had forgotten to buy a few things and went out again. Ye Guilan looked at her roughly cut hair, which was uneven and ugly.
She decided to tidy it up.
“Is the left side longer?”
“Hm? Why is the right side longer now?”
“The left is long again?”
Trim after trim, her hair got shorter and shorter.
What was once long black hair down to her waist was now just below her shoulders. Staring at the hair scattered on the ground, Ye Guilan finally snapped out of it and stopped.
It’s over. She’s in trouble now.
When Ye He came back, seeing that his daughter’s hair had gotten much shorter again, he hurried over. “What happened to your hair?”
“I just tried to trim it, but the more I cut, the more uneven it got. The more I tried to fix it, the shorter it became…”
At that moment, Ye Guilan tied her hair back into a ponytail, her face flushed red.
Ye He looked at her ponytail and smiled. “It’s all right. It looks good like this too.”
He looked a few more times and said, “It’s just that it doesn’t go well with a skirt. I’ll buy you a few sets of trousers. Wait here.”
Ye He darted out the door. Ye Guilan looked down at her outfit and actually felt a bit relieved.
Sorry, Miss Ye, for cutting your hair this much.
I really can’t get used to wearing skirts, and your long hair… It’s just too hot.
A few sets of pants were quickly bought and brought back. With Ye Guilan’s striking features, she could easily pull off any style of clothing.
Ye He looked her over from left to right, but his comment was always the same: My daughter looks good in anything.
Night fell, and there were fewer people on the streets.
Dinner that night was another sumptuous meal. Perhaps at Ye He’s special request, there were no dishes made from Magical Beast meat.
“Guilan, I have to go to the Trading House. I might not be back tonight. Don’t wander around, okay?”
Ye He reminded her, and Ye Guilan quickly nodded. Right now, she just wanted to sleep.
As night deepened and the streets outside grew quiet, Ye Guilan lay in bed thinking about the weapons she had seen that day, especially those Beast Rings in the little cabinet.
Beast Rings were exclusive weapons of Beast Tamers, a place to store their Spirit Beasts.
The hallmark of a Beast Tamer was their ability to command Magical Beasts with their own power.
Compared to Martial Spirits and Spell Spirits, the number of Beast Tamers was the smallest. The differences between these three branches started to show at the Spirit Gathering Level.
Upon reaching the Spirit Gathering Level, a Spirit Space would appear within, which contained the source of power-the Spirit Seed.
Only at that moment could one know which path they would walk.”
