Return to the Human World - Chapter 3
At the peak of the excitement, someone in the crowd shouted, “KISS!”
I leaned against the glass window, watching the two people in the center of the crowd, unconsciously holding my breath.
Along the way, I had considered this possibility, but seeing it with my own eyes still made my heart ache.
Reason told me I shouldn’t feel this way-Sheng Yan had every right to embrace a new life.
I only came back to ask him to burn money for me. What am I even doing?
Behind me, Sheng Lai sensed something was wrong. He leaned over and saw me crying, instantly at a loss.
“Wh-what’s wrong? If you have something to say, just say it. Please don’t cry.”
I didn’t want to cry either, but somehow my emotions just got out of control.
Helpless, I could only force a smile and say, “I’m fine, I’m just really moved, honestly.”
“Is that really it?” Sheng Lai seemed a little unconvinced.
I nodded. “Your Uncle and Aunt are such a perfect match. I haven’t seen such a joyful atmosphere in a long time. I got moved to tears without meaning to.”
Sheng Lai was silent for a moment, then asked, “By the way, I haven’t asked you yet-what exactly did you want with my Uncle?”
At that moment, Sheng Yan and Shen Ying began to toast the guests.
Watching the scene, my hand unconsciously gripped the glass of the window.
“It’s nothing special, really. I just wanted to ask him a few questions.”
“I don’t know how long my Uncle will be busy. Why don’t you tell me? I can pass the message on for you.”
I turned around and looked at Sheng Lai, whose eyes were evasive, and asked, “You don’t want me to see your Uncle, do you?”
Sheng Lai hadn’t expected me to be so direct. He gave an awkward laugh and explained:
“Not entirely. It’s just that, after all, today is my Uncle’s engagement day. It’s best not to disturb him…”
I guessed Sheng Lai probably knew something.
But then again, he wasn’t wrong.
I came from the Underworld. I couldn’t just show up on such a joyous day and ask Sheng Yan why he hadn’t burned paper money for me.
“I didn’t think it through. Sorry for bothering you.”
I threw out these words and quickly left the room.
When I reached the hotel entrance, Sheng Lai chased after me.
“You haven’t eaten yet, why are you leaving?
“I-I wasn’t trying to drive you away, don’t get me wrong.”
Looking at this boy who couldn’t even hide his thoughts, I found him rather amusing and wanted to tease him a little.
“Actually, I don’t need to eat.”
To which Sheng Lai replied, “Then where are you staying? I can arrange a hotel for you.”
I couldn’t quite keep up with his train of thought, but it was a good question.
Where should I stay tonight?
King Yama only gave me three days. If things didn’t work out with Sheng Yan, I might have to rely on Sheng Lai after all.
